#reaction #youaskedforit What should you buy; the 2024 Isuzu D-Max or Mitsubishi Triton? In this video I'm answering a question from a comment to try and discover which vehicle is best between these two very popular utes.
While the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux are like the alpha males of the segment battling at the top, the D-Max and Triton put up a strong fight as well.

    I'm looking to buy a 4x4 Ute, considering both of these. The Isuzu offers a Cab Chassis with good value, not available with Triton atm, I will wait for that to come to Australia. I have a Pajero Sport and love it, been no issues in 7 years and its a champ offroad, although a bit bumpy on corrugations. A friend bought a M-UX at the same time, his is a rattle box, so noisy from day one and sounds awful now especially when cold, my Mits is nice and quite which he commented on the first time he drove mine. It would have been nice to have a noise comparison on the Utes.

    Just got back from the dealer literally 15min ago, ordered the base model Triton GLX 4WD. Going back many years I remember Jaguar using as a sales pitch that it now had a sealed electronic odometer. This was to combat the standard second hand car practice of winding back the clock. Which was simple to do. Within no time you could buy, in certain circles, an electronic gizmo that plugged in and allowed you to set the odometer to anything you wanted. Making it even easier to clock the car. There will soon be available something similar to disable all this non safety shit. So many people turn it off every time they drive. But it defaults back on. There needs to be a permanent override program to shut these systems down. For your own sanity and safety. The Ancap rating set up needs doing away with. Just re hashed information with a distorted twist anyway. Totally meaningless rating. Could I be bothered to add synthetic piss to my diesel. Not really. Do I want it sniffing it's own exhaust. Not really. But they all do. Which would I have out of the two. D Max if I had to choose. What one would I want. Neither.

    Good afternoon all, a question for the channel. We do a lot of regional travel, and we’re considering replacing our trusty 2016 Outlander with a 4wd, so that we can get to some places the Outlander can’t get to. We won’t be towing. I like the look of the Triton, but I was wondering whether I might be better off waiting the Pajero Sport to be updated, as it’s likely to be more family friendly. Does anyone have thoughts on this?

  • @Mochabear85

    @Mochabear85

    The new MV triton will be a worthwhile upgrade, especially considering you travel. I'm currently averaging around 860km to a tank, with typical stop start peakhour traffic of a morning and afternoon in Brisbane 5 days a week. Without all of that, I would easily achieve over 900km to a tank. The new Paj sport is another 18+ months away at least, as Mitsubishi have only just announced the latest update for it. If you don't need the extra seats found in the Paj Sport, take a look at the Triton. But I imagine the new sport wont differ too much from the Triton

    well the Outlander you have is at best On-Demand AWD, you could put on "All Terrain tyres" like Pirelli Scorpion ATR or Toyo Open Country ATR which will get you further along but without ability to lock in even 4x4 High (re: lock the transfer case) that can only take you so far, it will take you further but ground clearance and lack of low range will hurt in some regions. Since you probably want a new wagon style body then your options comes down to: - Pajero Sport (Mitshibishi) Super Select II (old) 2.4L single turbo diesel / 8-wpeed torque converter, 4x4 High/Low - Rexton (Ssangyong) 2.2L turbo diesel with I think 8-speed only has 4x4 High/Low , price - Fortuna (Toyota) Very good but also very lame Toyota, RWD with 4x4 High/Low tough as Hilux better ride - Everest (Ford) the best in class but PRICE is the worst here, also a finiky 10-speed auto that can let go but everything else is near spot on including RAW/AWD/4x4 High/Low Rear diff lock and V6 turbo diesel (again PRICE).

    @@351tgvyes, we’re after a wagon style 4x4. Thanks for the options. I’ve had two long term Mitsubishi vehicles, and one ford. Had no problems with either Mitsubishi but did with the ford. So while I really like the Everest, as I like to keep my cars a long time, I feel more comfortable with the Pajero sport, or the Triton with a canopy. Not a fan of the Fortuner, it’s not really on my radar.

  • @351tgv

    16 күн бұрын

    @@richardbuckingham4329 - Fotuner is fine in that its got that Toyota quality based on Hilux, yes there are issues but over all it will be ok, the Pajero Sport is great, the ride quality is at best wollowy and steering is slow (but its hydraulic based so actually has lots of road feel), the Parejo Sport has Super select II but you can drive in RWD if you want to save fuel, 4High (technically AWD) is something the Fortuner does not have. It then comes down to subjective things like interior and exterior looks, form over function , options vs features of both cars. I can see why the Everest is what it is to you, my one was the 1st gen never had any issues with it for the most part, it was hard on front brake pads as I did a lot of towing with it, and ad blue is a pain in the backside if you don't monitor it, todays Everest is great but expensive, that said Ford have ironed out most issues with the 10-speed and the AWD/4x4 set up is bullet proof these days, so are the electrics, where ford fails is after sales service.

    Traction control is not anti slew/stability control. Off road say on the beach stability control is a burden (engine retardation and braking) - low range turns it off or you can turn it off with a button if in high range. Traction control cannot be turned off nor should it as it always helps even towing heavy loads in soft sand from stationary.

For those familiar with the super select II system, the way Paul was trying to put it in 4H/4HLC was wrong firstly. I can basically replicate his "issue" with mine, but if I do it as you're suppose to, zero issues. Tested on the Mrs 2016 Paj sport also, same results. Secondly, those tyres that are outfitted from factory are arse, hardly an AT as they are claimed to be, a HT at best, and I can attest to them being atrocious in the wet on road, actually quite dangerous (soon to be replaced) - so with that in mind, wet and muddy (crap) tyres on the circuit, interestingly other ute reviews drier. You say the Tank made it on stock tyres - take a closer look at the tyre compared to that on the Triton, absolutely coated in mud. And as Paul mentioned in the review, freshly dug out circuit (makes a difference if you think about the reasons why) At the end of the day, I'm not here to convince you to get one, just want people to be a bit more open minded. My first preference is a Ranger (have owned two), I'm no Triton die hard fan, but these things are solid and more capable than they have been given credit for. I can only give my first hand experience and at the end of the day, you do sound convinced that it's not worth the buy and hey, that's fine! as per my previous replies in the other video about this: - Ad Blue can be a pain in the rear end if you do extended highway towing, I had an Everest (3.2L 5cyl 6-speed auto AWD/4x4) and when ever I did extended highway speeds towing the SCR system would consume Urea very quakily and yes it did catch me out once as the warning message comes on with less than 3L and I was still some 200km from nearest town and then that local servo did not have ad blue and I knew from other experience do not switch the engine off as you cant restart without ad blue but he engine will run with out it until you refill. I want to correct Brett here, the Triton does not have a "twin turbo" set up, its actually a sequential turbo set up (similar to Ford 2L bi-turbo) in the set up has a smaller faster spinning turbo and a larger slower spinning turbo, re: both are not same size. The reason why Mitshibishi have done it that way is to reduce turbo lag and anyone who did drive the 2.5L / 2.4L single turbo remember what horrid TURBO lag those engines had in previous Tritons (boost would come on at 2,500rpm, like an old turbo petrol turbo), also there is no need for the 8-speed auto, the gearing is tall and the final drive is short so the engine which now has a very good torque curve (re: flat slab of torque) can stay in a taller gear and still provide the same level of power (remember torque x revs / 9549 = kw at flywheel) without the need to drop to lower gears as thus burn more fuel for no reason. As for suspensions and steering? both now have electric steering (eewww, prefer hydraulic steering bat that is a personal choice) and from what I can tell the Triton has better steering of the two, suspension wise both are double wish bone front and leaf spring at the rear, depending on spec, in the upper spec I would agree with Bret that the D-Max has the edge but is that really a thing in utes? Interior space is easily a win for Triton as is design and function (its the newer of the two), that said do you trust that Mitshibishi basically have a Nissan design with Renault electrics over proven GM/Isuzu gear? The trump card? the Triton has Super Select II, which allows for full time AWD, big major plus (even if it uses more fuel) but D-max has slightly better mechanical off road credentials even if Traction control is meh at best. Best advice? Go to dealerships and get them to give you a 24 test drive of each and then figure out which one you think will be the better of the two and then hammer hard on price when you negotiate to purchase, if the dealership plays hard you play harder and find a dealer that wants your business, tip: regional dealerships want your business more than metro ones. finally? Good luck.

    Cant argue with that. I turn it off though. Rumour is software update coming to address it or to allow it to toggle off completely. It's not a deal breaker though in terms of purchasing consideration. It's silly nonetheless.

    It does turn back on every time you get back in I’d try putting a sticker over it see if that works

    @@nikpilly6747 everyone has tried that to no result. Unfortunate as I get what they were trying to do (achieve the ANCAP 5) but a bit a miss and not tweaked enough. if rumors are true, mitsu have heard the complaints and are working to dial the sensitivity down and provide an off toggle in the software. For the most part it isn't too intrusive, has it's moments, but still could be much better.
