Yoshimura RS4 Quiet Exhaust Mod CRF450l

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

After installing the Yoshimura RS4 exhaust and Vortex ECU on my CRF450l I've been enjoying the power but the extra noise of the RS4 was wearing on me a little. I wanted it quieter than stock but the sound I was getting was more than I wanted. After some experimenting I came up with a FREE way to quiet the exhaust down by 50% and still have tons of power.

Ok. All of you who don’t get it. The stock muffler weighs a ton and has a catalytic converter in it that bakes like an oven. Soooo.... we buy an aftermarket exhaust that is 8 pounds lighter and then we mod it for quietness. If we get some extra performance and it sounds better - thats great. But no matter what we still the lose that 8 pounds of high placed weight and that scorching hot converter.

For simplicity the Q4 would have been a lot easier. But the yoshi still looks better so in the end, while it was more work, I ended up in a good spot and it’s only slightly less powerful with the mod I did. No regrets and well said on your part!

@@DadsDomain There is nothing to regret. FMF customer service is horrendous lately and the Q4 system is a mess. Mind bogglingly you need the 1-1/8 th diameter arrestor insert from the PowerCore to even make the Q4 a bit quieter but it’s not a direct fit. You have to cut the arrestor screen to make it fit and drill out and enlarge the retention screw hole. All because the Q4 quiet insert that is sold separately has a larger 1-3/8 diameter that is still too LOUD. BUT- getting any of these inserts can often be a pain in the ass. You may see them for sale but some of the people who order either got something different or nothing at all. And FMF stopped selling the PowerCore insert separately because they know everyone is defeating the spark arrestor to get it to fit the Q4. What a joke. Forget it. Have a great one brother- hope everyone is good.

That's sounds awesome good job. This was the best sound comparison i have seen and heard. These are great video comparisons i like how you did several different shots and speeds. I will definitely be doing this to mine if it will work because I added the rs9 daul exhaust from yoshi. Just to answer the questions that does required a rear subframe change, and airbox swap from a 2019 450r as well.

One thing I'm hoping helps is when I get a nicer helmet. I think they have better sound protection as well. For the moment I ordered some cheap ear plugs on amazon. I ordered the Tusk dual sport tires for the bike and they finally arrived. Should be able to get them on in a couple weeks. June is clogging up fast but hoping to get some good miles on the bike in July.

I know this is an old post, but I thought I would share my experience modifying the Yoshi on my 450l. I bought the Lexx quiet trail insert from Rocky Mountain, cut it off and welded it to the Yoshi Rs4 spark arrestor. This Reduced the sound by 7 dB. It still sounds great and performs reasonably well. Using the same vortex mapping, I did lose some power off the top end, but but for me it us a reasonable trade off.

I would really appreciate it if you could briefly explain how you salvaged the mid pipe heat guard? Welding involved? I will be getting one for my 300L very soon and I have noticed online that hardly anybody is using the heat guard...but I think it's a smart idea. My brother in-law is a welder - I don't need all the details, just a coles notes explanation when you have the time please. Thank you in advance.

I modified my fake FMF (original costs more than the bike here!) By welding 2 soup spoon handles to a stainless eggcup. I had to weld that to the inlet pipe as theres no such thing as a 'tip' in thailand so the can had nowhere to attach a tip. Yesterday on the mountains i heard a group of 6 bikes struggling with a steep incline..... 15kms away! BIG NOISE equals BIG POWER here... i cant understand why most of them arnt deaf.

I have a supper loud 250l 30hp. The mufflers all are made too small in the chamber . The chamber need to be longer and wilder the holes need to be bigger in the chamber there needs to be more packing in the chamber. The hole coming into the chamber needs to be has big going in has out . Your spark arrestor is way under sized . Air movement Needs to keep swirling all the way out the exhaust or You lose a lot of power. I have a 2013 CRF 250L 21HP . With a good tuned exhaust EKU controller no air box mod. 30hp . I am in the process Working with a company to make a proper muffler and a much lower DB. It will be bigger has It needs to be to kill the sound. I will add 2 pounds so it will be 10 pounds . Still much lighter but quiet and no loss of power. Sport bikes have good mufflers. Dirt bikes do not and are heavily restricted To meet requirements.

Better to ruin the exhaust than to ruin the ears of everyone he loves- As well as his own ears which I’m sure are not getting any younger. Do you really think he’s going thru all this for shits and giggles. If your ears are ringing after riding that means you have done permanent damage to your ears and ears do not heal. One day that ringing in the ears does not go away and then it’s game over- Remember that.
