Hey I just want to leave a little note here for everyone. The cam provided in the kit had to be modified FOR the the 450L. It's a factory Honda CRF450RX camshaft. The bearing shoulders are actually 1mm farther apart then on the stock cam and will not allow you to install the cam cap correctly. I don't believe the issue you were having installing the cam was technically your fault as if the milling is not done correctly it can keep you from getting the bearings in the holder with the rings. The stock cam is also not that *shiny* from Honda, so I know they've done polishing to it as well. I learned this the hard way and had the right side bearing fracture and destroy the head and cam. I have since replaced the head and *milled* camshaft and should have it running again soon. I did not get the kit. I'm doing it with all stock Honda parts (and ECU) and possibly will do a write up of how I did it.

Sorry to hear about your bike, thats a lot of work to have to go through but I really appreciate you sharing that information here for everyone. It still bugs me to this day I could get the holder to line up flush so you had no way of knowing it wasn't lined up right. I should be doing my valves this winter so if I have to shim them I'm going to be really curious to see if it goes together easier or not. If you ever do a write up of your bike let me know as I'd be curious

I liked the video because of your honesty. Some guys might have "edited out" their mistakes, but it was very helpful to see you go through the process of troubleshooting and eventually fixing it. So does that kit really give the bike 19 more HP? Because that's actually a huge change and I kind of doubt it. Or is that just the name of the kit? 😁 Thank you. 👍 PS: 2 strokes are so much easier to work on, heh.

Ya sometimes its hard to admit, or show, people how wrong you are sometimes but honestly that made the project all the more worthy of sharing with everyone IMO. We all screw stuff up eventually....thankfully it wasn't catastrophic. I've only gotten to really ride it after break in once and only got on it a couple times. Is it more powerful than mine...you bet, does it feel like 19hp, no. But I also didn't run it all the way to the red line and based on the cam profile I really think peak HP is all the way right to the top. He now has 600 miles on it so at some point I do plan on borrowing it from him and doing a follow up on it to really see how it feels all out.

Also if it is installed correctly the lobes on the cam shaft will line up perfectly with the rocker arms. The manual is really quite good. The 450R and RX are the same engines. The X and L use the same piston which is taller and cam which is less aggressive. Different fly wheel weights too. Totally fair and kinda sorta somewhat my reaction. I will tell you though you can use this power all day long on the pavement, no issues there and OMG what a Supermoto bike this would be. But if my brother in law was at the keyboard he would tell you the extra HP is absorbed by his extra weight and we have the same bike in some regards....little exaggerated but a drag race will eventually answer that. From there we just figured a new engine would come apart easier and none of the valve seats or any of the drive train had really worn in yet. So if you know you're going to do it WTH do it now and let everything break in together. He also changed the oil and filter after our video. right term "installation of" and please sometime go full throttle when breaking in an engine... this will assure that the piston rings get set in its place.. and go high rev to stretch the stuff so the piston reaches its ultimate top if you dont do this you create an lazy engine and oil consumer
