Yoshidora can definitely beat Sparg0 eventually. He's gotten so much better at the matchup since they fought at Kagaribi

*spoilers* 18:53 had Yoshidora done Nair instead of Up air here he would have won the set. So damn close. Really well played by Yoshidora to push Yoshi's worst matchup all the way to game 5 last stock last hit.

It was kind of a Rock, Paper, Scissors. If Yoshidora did Nair instead, Sparg0 could have F-aired and win the trade. I think Yoshidora decided to use Up air because it beats cloud trying to mash on its way down.

@@erickaguirre4888how would Sparg0 have had time to f-air? Cloud didn't start f-air in this moment, but even if he did, Cloud's f-air is frame 18. Yoshi's Nair comes out frame 3 (2 frames faster than his up air) and the hitbox covers his whole lower half of his body and stays out longer than up air. Which means, since Sparg0 already used his double jump, the only way he could possible make it back after getting hit is with limit, which he didn't have ready yet. There's no Rock Paper Scissors here, Yoshidora just chose the wrong move in a high intensity situation.

@@FirstLast-mn4re Now that we look at it, sure. But 18 frames is unreactable on smash. Cloud could started his f-air and Yoshidora wouldn't have time to react. It is indeed a rock paper scissors

Yoshi was my original main from day one when this game came out. He was the first character I mastered and dominated in Elite Smash. I knew how strong this character was from the start and was always surprised by how it would be ranked mid tier. Yoshidora showed us all what this character is made of and I couldn't feel more vindicated. I immediately cringed when he did the down b move there at the end. He really blew the opportunity to beat Sparg0 and it breaks my heart. I love Sparg0's facial expressions during the last 60 seconds if you watch it in 0.25x speed. He was really shook by this Yoshi! I love it! Such a good set.

This will go the same as Yoshidora vs Protobanham, he first got destroyed by Banham in a first to 10 sets, only got 5-10. And then he was able to beat banham later on with 3-2 in offline tournaments, he will beat Sparg0 the next time, not to mention that Cloud is definitely a bad matchup for Yoshi, it is at least -1. And there are people still say Yoshidora shouldn't be top 10, wake up, please

*SPOILER ALERT:* I really wanted Yoshidora to win because he was playing so good this set, but when I was watching live and the down-b came out I felt a part of myself die on the inside. Props to Sparg0 for winning, but R.I.P. he honestly kind of threw at the end there. Idk if he got nervous or something but it felt pretty uncharacteristic of him to go for an option like that so maybe it was? 😔

Yeah I don't understand it myself. Yoshi was my main from day 1 of this game so I'm extremely familiar with the character and the down b was so obviously I mistake the instant he chose it. Also as a Yoshi main I'm a bit surprised at some of the options he chooses. Like, he's an excellent Yoshi player but not optimal which is interesting.

He probably tried to land on platform. If that’s the case, then he would gamble on Sparg0 to miss the timing of an Up smash so he could shield it. But what do I know? He’s very obscure.

  • @ThatOneScienceGuy

@zhi1680 Some of the F-airs seemed a little ambitious. There were missed opportunities for additional up-airs. Jumping instead of nairing. Personally I like to integrate down b and up smash with Yoshi but perhaps he has found these moves to be too risky. His Yoshi is very inspiring, though. He shows how much of an aggressive bully this character is. One time I went to a local playing Yoshi and my opponent exclaimed "this Yoshi wants me dead!" That's very much the Yoshi playstyle. Kill kill kill! But maybe it wasn't fair to say his Yoshi is not optimal. His play here is at least an A- at worst.

@@Alonzone Yoshi's bair is one of the hardest moves to DI in the whole game, however its raw kill power is really bad (it doesn't make the move bad btw, it's still Yoshi's best move) Here Sparg0 got a semi-bad DI and immediately fixed it, that's why he was able to survive with such a bad angle (and he probably LSI-ed)
