I was overwhelmed when first I visited to worship at York Minster away back when I donned a younger chap's threads. This video affords me the same vigor. Your choir is as richly beautiful as then. My deepest of gratitude.

The famous Sackbut 32', extended from the 16' Trombone, actually of a somewhat smaller scale than one might imagine. Two additional 16' reeds complete the pedal reed chorus (Ophicleide and Fagotto), as well as two 8' and one 4'. Two 32' flues (Open Wood and Open Diapason) fills in any missing foundation tone.

Most evensongs I've went to have been quite like this.. Beautiful singing & Organ voluntaries, and when you come out of the quire; throngs of tourists (all of us enjoying the music c:) That's a gorgeous end voluntary, but simply can't gloss over that member of staff... She could have waved to the cameraperson and told them politely, as a staff member in a Church ought, but no! She just wants to be the centre of attention

Please don't blame her for doing her job. Perhaps it would have been better had she simply walked up and asked me to stop recording but had she done that she would have no way of knowing if I might have reacted badly and created a scene. I've no doubt many people take issue with not being able to record the services and have to be removed.

It's better to participate in the service than to gawk about from without. Unlike one commenter here, we found the clergy and staff of York Minster to be extremely nice and welcoming to us as a visiting cathedral choir from America. York is a great place for Americans to visit!

There is a practical reason for having staff position themselves in front of the entrance to the Quire. Myriad people with selfie sticks might jostle each other for best position and even intrude into the actual service "getting a better view". If the gates on the Rood screen are fastened, then it is likely that anyone popping in for a better view would be seen near/at the altar, which is even more intrusive. Finally, imagine the awkwardness of pushing past stumbling visitors with a procession of 30 choristers and clergy at the Recession! (Not to mention the noise of talking visitors, which is why that woman smiled and put a finger to her lips...)

Colin Gantinglew, whilst your discourse was a bit 'high camp', those two women who interrupted the 'magical flow' of even a tourist's not worshipper's visit by video was GAUCHE. Though I'm a worshipper. I concur by a chortle with "njn3" and you wholeheartedly. Whence hath decorum fled?

Brenda Phew I hope someone recognises the slattern and tells her what a smelly twat she's got. I'd like to bet that she thinks photo bombing's the in thing to do, and ruins as many folks' vid shots as possible because she knows that nobody will use direct country language in a church during a service and tell her to fuck the hell out of it.
