Yoel Romero vs Chris Weidman Highlights (Brutal KNOCKOUT)

Yoel Romero faced former middleweight champion Chris Weidman on November 12, 2016, at UFC 205.
The first round was a showcase for the former champion. He opened the bout with a ton of kicks, chopping at his opponent’s leg and digging into the body. Before long, Weidman mixed in his first takedown attempt, landing a dump off the single leg. Romero sprung back to his feet without much trouble, but Weidman kept on him. After some time, Weidman’s punches began to land a bit as well, and Romero had little success landing much of anything.
Wherever the fight went, Weidman was in control.
After spending five minutes doing almost nothing, Romero turned it up in the second round. His counterpunches were far more accurate and active, and he was able to defend all of the single-leg takedowns. In the last two minutes, Romero looked for his own takedown and landed it. From there, he controlled the back clinch as Weidman attempted to scramble, tripping him back to the ground frequently.
Both men were a bit tired, but the final round would be the decider. Weidman came out looking to change things, attacking with a hard kick and pushing the pace. However, not even 30 seconds into the round, Weidman changed levels directly into a terrifyingly athletic flying knee.
That was all she wrote.
Romero won the fight via knockout in the third round and was awarded a Performance of the Night bonus. It was announced that Romero was next-in-line for a title shot, after owning an 8-match winning streak.

His style plays poorly for those five round fights in which he does not get the finish, he stays very innactive saving energy for those sudden explosions of attacks, he's always dangerous but that allows his opponents to build an advantage on points.

I remember this fight vividly. I was sooo excited to see this one too, the crazy part is that Weidman was dominating the match the whole time until the flying knee. He was even outwrestling Joel, which is an amazing thing in and of itself. He still *looked* good in this fight. Weidman was just coming back after losing his title to Luke Rockhold, and trying to get a big W over a top-5 ranked middleweight contender in order to earn another shot at the title. I also remember his infamous losing streak after the Rockhold fight. If I’m not mistaken, he went like 2-7 in his last 9 fights with the UFC. Tough break for him, he went out like a fucking warrior every time though. Much respect, Weidman.

@@ceemor3404 I mean yeah, he controlled the pace and even forced a few (sloppy) takedowns, which is crazy considering Yoel is an entire level above Chris in terms of wrestling ability. What else would you call the rounds leading up to that KO? Weidman definitely would have been up on the scorecards, especially with the event itself being in his home-state. I’m a much bigger fan of Romero though, to be perfectly honest.
