Yo-Yo Ma is a perfect example of someone who, despite being one of the greatest of all time at what he does, doesn’t take himself too seriously. & him choppin it up with the Boys is the collab we all needed. The brand is SYMPHONIC.

I also love how they keep putting them in "high art" kinds of situations (i.e. this, the Met, etc.) but they're never made to look ridiculous or uncultured. They just have fun incorporating themselves into those spheres. And in this case, the feeling was mutual! Now hit up my girl Renee Fleming and get the Bodega Boys a voice lesson!

I think a part of it is their upbringing. I grew up in the Bx (10467 stand up) & an understanding hip-hop/street culture is just a byproduct of being raised in the Bronx. However, even in the early episodes of the Bodega Boys podcast you could clearly see Desus & Mero were very well-read, as evidenced by their hyper-niche references & GRE-level vocabulary. That’s why they can move seamlessly from discussing “Pitch Perfect” w/Anna Kendrick, NY rap w/Dave East & the state of America w/Obama. The Brand is Good in Every Hood, Boardroom, Lecture Center, Concert Hall & Recording Studio!

Some of you guys are sleeping on Yo Yo Ma. He is always captivating and so much fun.

the beauty of a man like Yo Yo Ma is that he just loves music and is so passionate about any kind of music. That's why his Silk Road Ensemble has instruments from all over the world. And that's why he doesn't see himself as above a collaboration like this. If more people had his mindset, we would be in a much better place

Yep. The only way to meet new loves is to allow yourself to be exposed to new experiences. Looks like Mero found a new love or at least a new comfort in listening to Yo-Yo Ma's cello--not unusual.

One of the things I love most about Desus and Mero, is they will get guests that you would never expect and the interviews are killer.

It's incredible. I've seen them flounder trying to interview some rappers and R&B singers like Erykah Badu but they have immediate, glorious chemistry with the likes of Yo-Yo Ma and Anna Kendrick.

They're the best. They're so welcoming and hype everyone up, make them look their best on international tv. Conan does that too and that's why he's such a great host. But they do it without being self-deprecating which is really different

this is a perfect illustration of yo-yo’s beauty. he embraces all cultures. he quite directly improved the relationship between my father and i because of his eagerness to collaborate & appreciation of worlds colliding.

I feel like there's two paths child prodigies go down: either they get obsessed about their "peak" in their teens or they are comfortable with their own brilliance and stretch to see what else they can do. Every time I hear about Yo Yo Ma, he seems to be doing something different.

As someone who has seen every single V*ce, Showtime, and early web content you guys have done, this is absolutely one of your greatest interviews so far. FOR YOUR EMMY CONSIDERATION.

I enjoy hearing him play the cello almost as much as I enjoy listening to him talk.

Omg yoyo ma has a great personality and it was just perfect with Desus and Mero. They should always check in with him once a week lol

It seems that Desus thinks that Mozart is all wholesome and innocent. Mozart was quite the opposite. His horn concertos have a bunch of insults to the soloist written in the scores, and he once wrote a song in German that translates to "Lick My Ass".

Most people might not know this, but Ma is for sure one of the most functional cultural engineers of our time. His knowledge of human nature in relation to culture, communication and community building on a practical level is uncanny. If I were the principal of an University, I would give him the title of Anthropologist Honnoris Causa in a sec. Really an amazing human being!

When he started playing my jaw actually dropped. Also I had no idea Yo Yo Ma was so funny and charming!

I remember when we saw Yo Yo Ma that our seats were lower level and stage left. I remembe he played a song with the first chair violinist. Perchance, I was behind her and he stared at her while they played together and I could see every emotion he was sending her through his music, facial expressions and eyes. A couple times, I closed my eyes bc I felt him penetrating her soul and it made me feel shy. But most of the time, I just sat there with big tears flowing down my face. 😭🥰🥰🥰

They got this legend playing Ruff Ryders Anthem on a Cello inside a Barbershop.

This is a clash of my worlds and childhood coming together. LaFlamme’s was my great grandfather and grandfather’s barbershop (from Potenza, Italy) and my piano teacher played cello with Yo-Yo Ma. Great episode :)
