My mother passed away on 24 .8.20. Due to the pandemic, and shielding I could not be with her at the end to comfort her. To be played at my mother's funeral. I sang it as a child whilst she played the piano.

Ave maria which ever way its played is just phenomenal. If you want it in soprano you need sumi jo but played just musicaly this is brilliant 👏 👌

My grandma passed away from cancer last week and this music was played at her funerals. I know she would've loved it. Love you grandma, miss you everyday.

I get why

People like Yo-yo Ma and what they offer to the world are a testament to the beauty in Creation and God's gift of music. "Bach gave us God's word. Mozart gave us God's laughter. Beethoven gave us God's fire. God gave us Music that we might pray without words." This is such simple music by both Bach and Gounod, but so incredible nonetheless. We're so lucky to live in a world where we can listen to music like this with a few simple clicks of a little desktop device.

And to think when I finally get to heaven. I will get to hear my momma sing this for the cognitive first time I understand Sheba a lovely operatic voice. What a beautiful reunion this will be…

Yo Yo's sound is just so amazing. My wife wonders what I'm doing on the internet at night: Falling asleep being relaxed by Yo Yo Ma! Over and over and over again. There might be some Hauser, Roy & Rosemary, 2Cellos and The Piano Guys in there as well. However Yo Yo makes it all look so smooth and easy. There is a short street in downtown Toronto by the harbour front named after him.

Yes he is great but not at the level of Hauser from Bach to Vivaldi to Mozart to hendel ,to bethoven to Joaquin Rodrigo to hauser passion all of them brought it not just to play because it is edicts of what should be ,I myself being from Europe studyed music very young notation is very important to apply to all aspects of instruments but yo yo ma no bad but à century later you have Nostrus Rex .

Hauser is also a pretensious as the come. Yo-yo and Jacqueline Dupre are the greatest. Listen to Ma's side work with Mark O'Connor and Edgar Meyer.

Let me give it a try to translate my own comment: The story of Nativity is told slowly and wholeheartedly. A perfect duet compliments each other. The sound from Heaven is as soft as water. It so cleanses the soul that you feel refresh and tranquil. You simply cannot resist the awe that music brings to you. I listened to it at least eight times in a row. It catches my heart with cello's first note, while that last beautiful note lingers in the air for a long long time.

You played humbly , calmly , so profesionally without ego.

My daughter is 11 years old and she loves this song and she also plays the cello so she learned it by memory in 25 minutes

Two fabulous musicians, playing a very beautiful piece of music.

What happens when you have two great listeners that play music together. I love the juxtaposition of the Fazioli piano stool with a Steinway piano. Great music beautifully played.

I don’t know if anyone else in the world has such a mastery of their craft as Yo Yo Ma. He puts his whole heart into it

He makes the cello sing. What a wonderful master!!

722 people were so swept up by the music that they mistakenly disliked. This was sheer beauty in the most traditional sense. Thank you so much for blessing my ears.

When I listened to Yo-Yo Ma and Kathryn Stott played on this music video I closed my eyes and saw my dear late father play the cello from Heaven.

Gounod gave us a tune, by itself of enormous beauty, to be played over Bach's prelude, of gigantic beauty. The result is a miracle of harmony.

A few minutes of peace during these trying times...thank you!

I wept. Years and years of electronic sounds put in today’s music still doesn’t pull out my emotions like this does. One brilliant accompanying piano, and a man with a cello. Out of the countless years of our worlds existence and the small amount of time I’ve spent here, I’m glad these two; at that moment and all of their time spent in their lives learning their craft lead to here, playing Ave Maria together.

I hear this version and all I can think of is Mother Mary lead me to your son. If you can be this beautiful, your son must be utterly blessed. Lead me to Him.

Yo-Yo Ma is such an amazing artist. I don't think I've heard anyone else that plays with such passion and beauty. This piece is just increíble. This is so beautiful. I cry every time I listen to it. They play so beautifully played....

He makes that cello sing, producing a sound that is powerful, raw yet refined, and heartfelt.

Yo Yo Ma came to my elementary school in Boulder Colorado to do a concert and I got to shake his hand. Even then in the 3rd grade, I knew I was shaking hands with an important person to humanity. Felt this same feeling when I met Jane Goodall at CU later on in my childhood.

When feeling like being alone, something leads me to appreciate this work.

Heavenly grace has touched Gounod's soul. And Bach's.

Absolutely heavenly!!! Such a moving rendition of this beautiful classic...I'm awestruck & overcome with emotion! 😥 Kathryn's accompaniment is exquisite & compliments Yo Yo's delicate & masterly treatment of the melody!

This performance is the embodiment of art. The tenor, always being in the shadow of the melody, is finally given his gloomy spotlight. The soprano serenades her companion in harmony. This is the classical equivalent of the modern romance duet.

A breath of fresh air!

Yo yo just wonderful but also the sublime sensitivity of the piano playing from Kathryn!

I return to this Ave Maria many times during the week - I cannot explain how this piece of music goes straight to the heart. Oh my!! Thank you many times over.

PERFORMANCES like this don't get the recognition they deserve. When I was a child, the biggest show on TV regularly featured classical performances. Ed Sullivan created stars in the classical world like Maria Callas. Has this performance been broadcast on the Ed Sullivan Show in, say, 1957, these two artists would have rocketed to national recognition - yes, even Asian-American YoYo. What do we have of that impact - no disrespect, KZread - today?
