Music is the language the soul understands.
In Finland ’The Swan’ carries a special meaning. For a Finnish listener this beautiful melody tells a story of a bitter loss and lack of communication, where one can only silently stare into emptiness of their soul.

It's amazing how people associate this piece with mourning the loss of a loved one, or reminiscing the memories of times passed, or of falling in love. This only goes to show that music speaks a language only the heart knows. You could visualize this piece both as the spring at the end of the bitter winter cold, or the autumn after a joyful summer sunshine, it would still have the same feeling, just with a slightly different context.

I teach music and sometimes hear a student say, "Why should I play? I'll never be as good as (insert name here)." I answer: You are correct. You will probably never be as good at sounding like your idol. But he or she will never be as good at sounding like you. Bring YOUR OWN brand of passion to the music. People will feel what is inside you. Some people will like your idol and some will like you. Practice until your soul shines through your performance. No one can have a "better" soul than you - only a different one."

Very true! I would also add that just because you’re not the absolute very best at something, doesn’t mean that it’s not worth doing. Making music in itself is so valuable in enriching your life. I feel like so many of us have this all or nothing attitude where if we can’t do something perfectly it’s not worth doing at all, and that’s so sad. If you’re working hard and creating something you love, that’s the most valuable thing in the world.

My grandmother and mother were both piano and cello teachers, respectively. Whenever my gran used to visit us they would play this duet together. Always. A few years ago my grandmother was diagnosed with dementia, the sort that degrades your body and well as your mind. Now she can no longer sit at a piano, or even play it. It was the thing she loved most to do in the world, and it hurts to see her like this. She taught me piano herself. Whenever I hear this piece I will always remember how they looked as they played it together, and how she used to be.

Have you ever hear a piece and cried? Because it reminds you how much life was okay back then. But it tells you through the notes that you can't turn back time at the same time, it says that, it's gonna be fine, everything is going to be, fine. Walk ahead and let God do His work. A girl I onced knew introduced me to this piece. She liked this one a lot I remember. She was really fond of these slow pieces where it makes you think about all the feelings you've ever felt, and the feelings you're just about to feel. She kept on recommending me all sorts of music she loved listing to, which is something I've always felt to be romantic. And of all of those music she's introduced me to, it was this that caught my ears and made me think of one woman I've ever loved the hardest in my entire life. I never really knew what's the story behind this piece of music back then, which makes me so emotional to have to hear it again without her by my side. Now that she's gone I don't really have the use of what the story of this music is about. As now I finally have my own story to think of while getting lost in the tunes. A story to think about while she's happy with someone else. A story to think of while I try to cry alone in my room, while my tears are a burden enough to pour out of my eye sockets. It's truly quite a sad music I'll never forget, that comes with a girl I'll continuously think about till this day.
This piece is just incredible. This piece reminds me of the flow of life, how you have some high and low moments, but no matter what, life is beautiful. We must learn to appreciate what we have while we have it. The people you know and love, your friends and family, we must take advantage of what we have while it is still present with us.

I have been playing violin since I was nine. I am twelve now, and over that time I have heard such beautiful compositions like this and learned to appreciate every note. I think the whole world should understand the beauty of real music. In my mind, what makes an artist truly great, is their ability to put emotion into anything they play, whether it's joy, sadness, anger, or anything else. I think Yo-Yo Ma and Kathryn Stott did just that! Bravo!

this sounds like when you complete life kinda when you are older sitting in the front porch of your old wooden home with your lover, by this time you are atleast 60-70 years old and you two are watching the view as the world starts to end sitting there holding hands, loving each other, you look at her she looks at you one final kiss goodby “i love you” she says, you start crying because now you realise that you will never be able to see her again or hug her or hold hands with her or kiss her, you say “i love you too” as you die in each other’s arms.
