“We are perishing for lack of wonder, not for lack of wonders.” Firing Line with Margaret Hoover is always appointment television in my home, but tonight’s episode was simply a cut above. For all the superlatives I could use to describe this show, for tonight I must add beautiful and incredibly moving. This was a real treat. Yo-Yo Ma...there is still no adequate description for his music or his sense of humanity. I feel blessed to share the same place in space and time with the likes of him. To Margaret Hoover and team...Thank You for bringing these 30 minutes to the world. You’ve outdone yourselves.

I watched this interview right after watching Yo-Yo Ma’s interview with Rubenstein. Rubenstein was really annoying, constantly interrupting Yo-Yo Ma, not really listening to what he had to say, rather rushing to ask the next question, it kind of felt like an interrogation. So now watching this interview was like a breath of fresh air. Such a nice, easy flow of the discussion, it felt so natural. Thank you, great job.

Absolutely love Yo Yo! A musician of his Caliber but yet so humble and genuine ❤️

I absolutely love Yo-Yo Ma, not only for his exquisite cello performances but also as a kind, compassionate, humble man who touches so many people around the world through his music. He has found something that he really loves to do and channeled it into something that has heart, meaning, and purpose through his "Songs of Comfort." His music, as well as the 24 young amateur cellists performance, was so touching and moving to listen to on Firing Line. Thanks for the special treat! Jenny :o)

There would be many deserving recipients - Yo-Yo would certainly be one of them.

This piece that Yo-Yo Ma plays as been a favorite of mine for awhile now. His presence is evident, and played with such feeling! As he closes this piece he takes his hands and frames the piece as if to give it to the audience! I wept when I first saw this and felt the power of his gift! We are truly blessed to have this man and his Family here upon the earth! Yo-Yo is interested in people, what makes them tick and he then listens, with great intent! This I feel emulates sacred characteristics of Christ, and the attentive listener feels Yo-Yo's intentional gift of love. Brilliantly he continues to play on. Bravo!

This is the 1st time watching this; thoroughly enjoyed it! I’ve always said that music, with or without lyrics is a great communicator. The emotions and thoughts just gather within. 😍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

That last selection ‘Going Home’ sounds like an entire bagpipe orchestra! #Amazing

As a young cello player in the 1980s, my grandmother would always prod me to become a professional musician. "Like Yo-Yo Ma", she would say. Fate eventually led me to other fields for a career, but when my daughter was in pre-school, the principal, hearing that I played cello, passed on a quarter size cello that she had purchased for her own daughter years ago. So once in a while, when I can pry the electronics out of her hands, we sit down with our cellos, and we make a little noise.

I really enjoy this episode, with four years of explosive news one after another, a hard line commentator would lower her tone so gently and lovingly in interviewing a world renowned musician for his contribution to sooth so many souls in despair and tears during the pandemic. Well done!!

As was said in so many of the comments below, this was an extraordinary episode of Firing Line. Margaret was simply charming throughout, the tone and soft gentle level of speaking by both participants was very refreshing. I have to add that Hoover batting the eyelashes on her final question / request (at about 23:50) was unexpected and delightful. Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish.

Music needs gift, efforts and resilience of consistency to achieve. Music is art without borders, but the results of brilliance from audiences and listeners. The swan piece is a very short beautiful music and I learned when I was 8 years old and still love it very much. Great musicians as Yo Yo Ma’s music talents and experiences of music understanding and achieving are many music loving peoples’ learning opportunities and experiences in the world. Nothing wrong with listening or playing or enjoying music at anytime or leisure time to get rid of tiredness of daily works for all.

Saw this on pbs! Beautiful and inspiring! Can watch this anytime! Especially during these times!

I play the guitar, but I think my favorite instrument to listen too is the cello, one of my favorite musicians inspired me to learn the guitar but his band had a cello player and too me ears she made the band complete. The musician Iam talking about is Ben Howard and the cello player was India Bourne. Thank you Yo Yo Ma

The interviewer asks about the power of a 300 year old piece of music. A musician from my Caribbean country attempts to answer this way: "Music fills the world with happiness Plenty sweetness and togetherness Music have no friends or enemies; Everybody could dingolay.... If your clothes tear up or your shoe burst up You could still jump up, when music play Old lady, young baby everybody could dingolay!"

I just happened to see the title at minute 24:01 LOL It is SUCH a beautiful piece of music, played with such genius and compassion by one of my favourite PEOPLE on this planet let alone a world class cellist. I'm gonna wear out my KZread account just listening to it over and over again . . . now my challenge will be to play it even HALF as well on my cello LOL
