Yet another clawhammer groundhog school video

Музыка

This one inspired by conversation with my fiddling and now clawhammering friend, Rich. Hoping to illustrate the rhythmic difference between the clawhammer "Bumdiddy" technique and the double thumbing, a.k.a. "Boom-a-lack-a" technique. Besides, or maybe because of those rhythmic differences, it seems to me the double thumbing allows more hammer-on and pull-off opportunities, plus the opportunity to hit a drop thumb here and there...which is totally unnecessary but can be a good thing to add in at times, if you want. Sometimes people are happy with bum diddying and leave it alone at that, but it's good to know about double thumbing, just in case you get hooked on that...lol. Using Angeline the Baker in double C tuning to illustrate. Excuse my video nerves here...I never could stand for a camera lens to be pointed in my direction....it's a groundhog thing, ya know. But I did what I could to continue the conversation. Let me know if it causes any damage...lol...hope not. And have a great day if you stopped by my channel. Thanks.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. What a great vid. Your attempt to start a conversion over to double thumbing (boom- a- lac- a) style strumming has already taken effect. Totally agree that style has way more opportunity for what I like to call banjo syncopation or maybe “banjosync” to give it a more snappy name.

That paw of yours is so instinctive. I don't know if I'll ever get it. I go to the three bare finger roll, just as instinctively. I just can't help it. The two finger roll is neither, and that feels weird too. Keep on keeping on!❤

Thank so much for sharing that. It just so happens that that's the very tune that I've been working on, I just love it! I've been trying to get used to using a capo so tuned to double C and capo up 2 frets so I guess that's double D maybe?

Yes, Dale, capo up 2 and crank that 5th string up to match. Double D is a great place to clawhammer Angeline. Thanks for watching, and let me know how your Angeline goes!
