Yes | And You and I | REACTION VIDEO
First time hearing Yes "And You And I" , I continue my exploration of Yes and I consider them to be brilliant this song wasn't my favorite but certainly did have its moments.

The 6th member of Yes during this era was producer/recording engineer\A & R Eddie Offord. His contributions to the recordings cannot be lightly dismissed. Prog Rock may never have reached it's heights without him.

Interesting note: At the very start of the song, the guitar harmonics was Steve Howe tuning his guitar before starting what had been written. The production team thought it was part of the intro and left it in the mix. When the band listened back they liked it and kept it in 🤷😅

@satanicpanicfunandgames3141 Steve plays most things different every time when he can. Just part of who he is as a player. They all had to "learn" these songs from back then after they were constructed in studio. Easy to write yourself into a corner. But imagine touring for decades and playing the same parts the same way over and over, night after night. Some people prefer that (e.g. Rush) but for others, it takes the joy out of performing.

I've been listening to Yes since the 70's and recently have been reexamining them through watching reactions. One tune that has risen in my rankings is,"Awaken". It now rivals my previous favorite, "The Gates of Delirium". Celestial, ethereal, and majestic. I feel like I climbed Jacob's ladder and entered the very throne room of God!

next SIBERIAN KHATRU is A MUST! RIVIDING !!!!! Re-evaulate! AYAI is a LUSH world onto it's own. From the opening with the deliciously melodic harmonics on the strings to the pastorally sweetness of the acoustic folk guitar into the greatest CRESCENDO in Rock Music this song is BLISS! When released in 1972 this album became the pinnacle of Prog creativity! Those who were there & aware of the era have the benefit of appreciating the timeline of all the music and the artists of that time. So my perspective is always linked to what came before and came after. Context can be very important especially when people start comparing songs or a band's discography!

There are two pairs Yes songs that are best experienced smoothly merging together, as one would hear on the album start to finish. These are "We Have Heaven" and "South Side of the Sky" played back to back. And "Long Distance Runaround" and "The Fish (Shindleria Praematurus)" together, both sets found on the Fragile album. After those do the last song on the album "Heart of the Sunrise" all the way thru even beyond when you think it's ended. ✌😎

Man, you sure nailed it! "It almost feels like a set up for something else..." _And You And I_ isn't the kind of power-driven YES song that I dearly love, but it is quite beautiful and it does _set up the finale that is_ *Siberian Khatru,* which is the icing on the cake of this remarkable album. I'm really loving your reactions to YES' greatness. I remember the first time I heard Starship Trooper on the radio as a junior in high school. I wasn't sure just what I had heard, but I knew there were parts of it that were _very_ satisfying. By the time I had heard it a few more times, I was wondering if it wasn't the most amazing thing I had ever heard. I went out to buy The Yes Album & was blown away. So I went to see them in concert where I was exposed to Close To The Edge for the first time. Like your first exposure to CTTE as a live performance, I wasn't able to fully appreciate its ultimate greatness, but when I bought the album on the way home from the concert, I was rewarded with such sonic wonderfulness that I became a hard-core YES fan for decades....

Another 60+ subscriber. I think the ritual of selecting the album, not touching the grooves, using my Disc Washer pad to clean it (anyone remember), then carefully letting the needle lower into the lead-in groove. Being able to enjoy the album cover, and check the lyrics provided added to the experience! If you were able to upgrade your system over time, you could reduce distortion to non-audible limits. There's a warmth to analog. Maybe just old school bias? Working, (enjoying), my way through your reactions! As always keep up the great work!! 👍👍👍
