I’m a boomer who owned a first and second generation Nissan (Datsun) Z. The GR86 gives me the same vibe. I want this car… as soon as it is available in a Hakone Green edition. Sarah… this “on location” review is every bit as well-produced as your “studio” versions. Well done! 👍

@@module79l28 You might think so, but I just like the styling, “sufficient” power to be fun to drive, and the price-point. The original Z’s were sort of a “poor man’s” sports car. 😉

@@thorsong1 My second Z was a ‘79 280ZX special edition painted in the two-tone “Dallas Cowboy” blue & silver. It was one of the first 5-speeds one could get with cruise control. It also tracked better than any car I had driven up to that point. Once you centered it in the lane, one barely had to adjust the wheel to keep it on course! 😉

@@80s_Boombox_Collector That's unlikely to happen. Toyota engineers have stated that if they add more performance, they would have heavily modify the suspension and that would add extra cost. I might be misinterpreting your statement but are you saying that turbo engines don't last a long time compared to an NA engine?
@LongTruong-zz1kz
3 жыл бұрын
I have turbo. 200k still running strong
@Dakiraun
3 жыл бұрын
@@DwithBoost That's correct - in general, turbo-charging an engine reduces the overall lifespan of the engine. If a person hopes to get 200,000+ miles out of an engine, it's very rare for turbo's to get that far. I'm not suggesting it isn't possible - anything is possible, just statistically uncommon.
@DwithBoost
3 жыл бұрын
@@Dakiraun most of the time I see shorter life spans due to people tuning, raising the boost from the factory setting and such. I know of several 02-03 WRX's that have around 200K miles plus. I don't see why a turbo alone would reduce an engines life span. The manufacturer typically reduces compression, reinforces the pistons, rings, etc. to take the additional horsepower and cylinder pressure.

What a great review. Thanks for adding the first gen into the review.
Reminds me of the 240/280z cars so much in spirit. I don't think it needs a turbo. I'd do all the NA mods to I could as well before I went forced induction. I'm just not sure a turbo would fit the personality of this car well. Loving your reviews so much! Keep up the amazing work

Why do you own two Toyota 86? With different transmissions?

@@aeronYTco I am a mom of two boys. I got tired of them whining about riding in the back seat. I traded my 2013 FRS in on a 2012 Infiniti G37 Sport. I always hated trading in my FRS! Now that my boys are 24 and 17. I figured now would be the time to get another one. I traded the Infiniti for a 2020 Toyota 86. No regrets! Love my car! We still have two other vehicles if we all go somewhere together.

Nice review of my next car! Thank you!
That shift beep has got to go if I were to get one of these. 😂
That copper cylinder under the oil filter is an oil cooler with coolant circulating through it. It’s only purpose is to prevent the oil overheating when doing laps on track, but it has the added benefit of warming the oil from a cold start. It wasn’t on the old generation, but was a needed mod for going on the track.
have seen most of the GR86 reviews but you were the first to mention the slant of the radiator and how it corresponds to the shape of the grill, I was impressed !
Fantastic track segment. You continue to impress
Would love a short video comparing the BRZ... "It has a Subaru badge... That's it! Thanks everyone!"
For the curious, short track stock car builders in the know tip the radiator 5 to 7 degrees so that the air glances off the fins as it passes through, increasing the cooling efficiency significantly. Straight up mounted radiators pass the air through with less contact with the aluminum fins between the tubes and will run hotter. Water to air and air to air both have the same effect when you tip them
Thanks for making car reviews FUN!
This is my dream car since the first leaked images, and I love the way you presented it
