Yelawolf Defends Confederate Flag | DEHH Convo

Комедия

Article: bit.ly/1O2sEuS
Yelawolf found himself in hot water in recent weeks with his comments over the Confederate flag. After the murder of 9 African-Americans in a South Carolina church by Dylann Roof, there has been near universal support in the removal of Confederate flag among many deep, southern states. Yelawolf, however, holds true to his convictions towards the flag and in a multitude of posts on Facebook and Instagram, lets us all know his stance towards the Confederate flag and how he feels about the attacks that it has undergone in recent months. This convo is about Yelawolf's stance.

    I've had this discussion on multiple accounts with many people and still to this day I'll bring up my reason for having nothing but disdain for the confederate flag. Let's flashback to 2004. Rockingham, North Carolina. I'm in the 5th grade. My friend Sidney and I are the only 2 male black kids in a class that is predominately white. A classmate of ours, Mark, comes to school on picture day and is wearing a confederate flag shirt. My friend, Sidney and I question why people still wear and support the confederate flag, and it eventually leads to him getting upset, so he decides to say: "I wish you 2 would go back to slavery where you came from." Of course all the other white students found this funny because he had the balls to say it, but it was the first time I'd ever experienced racism. Being 2 of the only black kids around there wasn't much we could do. "Tradition" and "heritage" mean nothing when you still have racist ideals being passed on along with it. I know there are those who feel that people should have a right to fly that flag, but in all honesty it embodies more negativity to those who don't support than it does to those who do support. Trying to to defend that flag in 2015 is asking for a war that you can't win.

    +Kelvin Brewington Whilst what he said was obviously despicable what saddens me the most when young people are racist is that he's obviously just parroting his dad/mum/uncle/whoever. I wish that even if adults have racist opinions they kept them to themselves and didn't "pass" that shit on to their kids.

    Droppin' that knowledge! Respect. The arguments people make in support of this flag are usually ridiculous. I live in Nova Scotia, Canada where that flag is ESPECIALLY pointless and recently a group here was trying to ban it. Naturally, all the local comment sections about the issue got filled with ignorant, hateful & racist comments....by the same people saying that "the flag isn't racist". I don't think it's a coincidence that the vast majority of racist people are dumb. Being racist is just a dumb way to be.

    I respectfully disagree with Kinge's little history lesson. The civil war was NOT fought to free black people. It was fought to preserve the union. The ONLY reason it became about slavery is because the north needed help and the south were kicking ass. This is a quote from Abraham lincoln, "if i could keep africans enslaved and preserve the union, i would do that." About the flag; i would just tell people to go read what the inventor of the flag meaning is behind it.

  • @kennithbinge

    @kennithbinge

    +D Hamp Southern states left the union because of their stance on slavery. Lincoln "freed" slaves in the South to give him a competitive advantage and it helped turn the war. I do agree with your there. But it was about slavery from the very beginning because the South didn't want to give up their slaves. Because they didn't want to give up their slaves. The left the Union. Them leaving the Union because of their stance on slavery led to Lincoln saying that he was fighting the war to preserve the union because the south left the union because they didn't want to give up their slaves. At the end of the day, slavery was at the core of this war.

  • @dhamp5128

    @dhamp5128

    9 жыл бұрын

    That is correct. I just wanted to make it clear that they really didn't give a damn about black people. On either side. The north had slave plantations also and they became jealous of the economic gains of the south and they wanted to tap into some of that wealth. The south wasn't having it and that's when they broke off from the union. Did you know that Abraham Lincoln gave reparations to slave OWNERS after the war? $50 million worth to be exact. So that goes to show you the mind set of these people on BOTH sides.

    Lincoln specifically said he would've fought the war regardless of if slavery were ended or not. He also enforced the fugitive slave act right before the war, was a white supremacist himself and defended slave owners when he was a lawyer. The first shots fired were at a trade post. This was about tariffs and central authority. Plus the union didn't fight like they just wanted to end slavery, they burned down property and killed ppl who had nothing to do with slavery.

    Kennith Inge that's what I'm saying. Lincoln gave lip service to abolitionist causes just to get abolitionist support for the war. The south had been talking about secession for decades because of tariffs and the share of taxes they were paying.

But they shouldn't represent those religion correct. Now if the confederate flag stood for slavery, how come my high schools flag was the confederate flag. I went to Georgetown District High in Canada. Who ever wins the war writes the history is the problem. The south would have won the war if they had kept slavery. Another reason they lost is because of poor networking with other relations for instance the "king cotton" incident. Reason they would have won the war is because the south possessed the highest export trade routes. Now in 1833, back when slavery was a head turn politically, Andrew Jackson the 7th president went down to South Carolina for the Nullification Crisis and demanded direct payment rather than bonds, which was related to tax issues. He also threatened any state that attempted to secede.

    2. This is why the civil war began. Now in1861, 30 almost years later. The south was strong because of its export trade routes. When Abraham's time comes, he is the king of propaganda, knows the south will fall without slaves. The confederates were planning on getting rid of slavery but at this point of time they thought they couldn't economically. So Abraham used that to his advantage, not because he cared about dark skinned individuals rights. If the confederate flag is offensive then so should the United States flag. Equal amount of racists wave it today. Only difference is one of them won the war.

    I mean , African Americans were segregated and water hosed under the American flag yet we still got up and said the pledge. I personally don't have a problem with it , it's just some people have different views on it. People like yelawolf just wants to rep the south , while racists use it because it was a time where slavery was in effect.

    I was born and raised in Alabama and Yelawolf and I are about the same age, so I have first hand knowledge and experience with the perspectives of people like him. Regardless of their misguided appreciation for this flag, all over the globe, nations and people are acknowledging their past misdeeds...Only in America are people of color are asked to view images of their painful & horrific pasts and be perfectly okay with it...Fly the Nazi flag in Germany and see what happens or the Chinese Nationalist flag in Beijing....This symbol of govt sanctioned slavery needs to go to rest in history with all the other symbols of hate.

    I was taught in U.S. History class that the confederate flag was born out of the Confederacy's separation from the Union. The flag was presented to me as a symbol of racism. It's a symbol of a time where they were fighting about whether my ancestors would remain viewed as property or not. I'm from the north and I know this. Yela has got to know this shit.

    Think what everyone's missing is the fact that OK the flag bothered people, but you didn't want it removed until liberals mentioned it. Back then you saw the flag, got offended, THEN MOVED ON WITH YOUR LIFE. Some people use it for racism some don't!!

    I live in Richmond, Virginia, the former capital of the Confederacy. We have big ass statues of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and Stonewall Jackson in the heart of the city. You take that and add the fact that people rally around that same part of town with confederate flags frequently. People have been doing that shit for years now. I've been offended by it the entire time. I get a little sick to my stomach when I walk through my city, which is hella diverse in terms of culture and race, and see somebody with that symbol. So, no, I didn't get upset about it or want it removed until "liberals started metioning it". I have never felt anything but disdain for that symbol.

    So many reasons Yela's wrong. Like Killer Mike said, you don't raise the loser's flag over the winning country's government buildings... it makes no sense regardless of the flag's meaning. Also, people shouting about their heritage should direct that frustration towards white supremacist culture for distorting the meaning of that symbol - what's happening now is just a logical reaction to what the symbol has become. He's directing anger to the wrong people for the wrong reasons. I personally take issue with this because he's doing this knowing he'll get publicity.. you don't mess with something like this for personal benefit, especially if you're part of hip hop culture.
