Year Long Vlog
Фильм және анимация
So here's basically everything that happened to me aged 23.
Main channel - / sammy
Twitter - / icoepr
I've included captions, but here's a full transcript:
A lot can happen in the space of a year. With the madness of everything we do it's easy to be so focused on the next endeavour, on the next project, that we lose sight of the bigger picture. I know I'm still young but there are so many stories and ideas that I haven't been able to share yet. And honestly, that eats me up inside. It keeps me awake at night. And sure, in many ways, that could be seen as a good thing. Something that drives me forward. Pushes me towards growth and improvement (IMPROVEMENT). But I feel like often we're guilty of being so focused on what's coming next that we forget to take stock. To step back, give ourselves a breather and say: "you know what, you're doing ok". And of course I never want to get cocky, or comfortable or overly nostalgic. I understand the importance of looking forward. Of never wanting to take your foot off the accelerator. But at the same time, I know that this stage of my life won't last forever. And the time will come when I think back to these days fondly. Hell, there was a point in my life when I fantasized about being where I am today. And now that I'm here, all I can think about is where I want to go next. And if I ever make it there, I'll no doubt be wondering where to go after that. I understand the value of that continual momentum. It's something I never want to lose. But at the same time, fuck all the overly romanticised tortured artist bullshit. That mentality is more pathetic than it is poetic. And look, I know it's a cliche but sometimes we allow ourselves to get so bogged down with what 'could be' that we forget to take in what 'is be'... that came out weird. Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to do here is remind myself both then and now that life is pretty sweet. And if you don't take that in every now and again it's going to have all been for nothing. After all, a lot can happen in the space of a year.

I absolutely love this, man
sammy's videos always feel like he's condensed a whole lot of creativity and thought into the little format of youtube, love all of his stuff, wish he received more recognition for his input
Oh this is so cool!
Bloody hell, man. I needed this, thanks
Despite it's seemingly simple premise this is so impressive, and poignant - I feel a twinge of a similar thing that I felt watching Boyhood? It's just really, really cool, well done!
Im disappointed the video wasnt actually a year long. Fuckin clickbait innit

I wish projects like this would go viral!! This deserves & needs to be seen.. But for now we'll just enjoy it here in our lil' corner of the internet 😊

all of dodie's weird faces that she pulled are definitely a highlight hahah
I remember you telling me about a very long project you were doing when at SITC 16 we talked about PMS. So glad to finally see it!!
i like that the word 'both' was with both the fratocrats
On the off chance that you see a comment from a video posted two and a half years ago Sammy: I have just posted a video in this format myself, and wanted to thank you for the idea back in 2017. I liked the fact that you were taking a thought you wrote down in one moment (in my case that was on 31 December 2018) and were stretching that one thought out across the whole year. Grieving has warped my perception of time weirdly over the last few years, and I wanted to try and capture how it has made me reflect on time passing, literally by slowing down that moment to a whole year, then having that thought condense back into just a few minutes when the whole thing is completed. I also got my friends/ family/ colleagues/ randomers to say the words mostly, rather than myself - for me, it was a way of including them, but also being passive or absent in the video. These are the people who have carried me through the years and enabled me to grieve healthily, to try to come to terms with letting go. Over 2019, whilst filming the video, I wrote loads about what filming this meant to me in my diary, but really the end result is a bit wallow-y and self-indulgent and kind of rubbish aha (it's certainly a bit harder to follow than yours!), but I'm glad I got to put the sadness/ anger/ confusion/ denial/ guilt into some form of communal creative outlet. It's given me a little bit of peace and purpose over the last 12 months, so I am very grateful to you for the initial idea and the first and last sentence. I hope you have a lovely 2020 Sammy, and looking forward, as ever, to seeing your future work.

this was pretty dope, but then dodie dabbed at the end so 9/10
this was just a really cool and interesting idea and you've got a lovely message to share. it was really cool seeing everything through the year and i'm amazed by how you planned and kept that up. way to go sammy !!
Ahh Sammy this is amazing! "Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it" ahh Sammy this is just such a wonderfully video in so many ways that I can't quite articulate... thank you
I love this so much this is probably the coolest video I've seen this year or even the last 2 years. Keep up the great work Sammy ilysm you're an inspiration ❤️
this is so moving, thank you sammy 💗
I love this so much! I feel like this will end up being one of those things that I watch whenever I don't feel motivated and when I feel like nothing will change. Also Sammy has more patience with editing than I'll ever have...
This is brilliantly done and very inspiring. Both in form and also by seeing how much you've achieved in a year. Well done Sammy! You've got a knack for coming up with interesting formats, and I can't wait to see what you do next
This is one of the smartest things I've seen in a long time! The snapshots definitely validated the point you made - i love it.
Oh man, love the dedication you put into this!
I'm absolutely in love with this. You can always be relied on to tell stories and create amazing pieces of art in such a unique and creative way Sammy. Also love the message, I think the "next big thing" mentality is something everyone - especially creators - deal with and its so heathy to just stop and breathe every so often. I'm definitely going to be re-watching this a lot. For a reminder to take a second, but heavy dose of inspiration :)
Excellent concept!! I love feeling like in every scene there might be easter eggs to find upon rewatching!
So many lovely people in one video!! Looks like you've had a wonderful year.
Damn it Sammy, been waiting for this for ages and somehow it's EVEN COOLER than anticipated. Great job!!
I love this and I can only imagine how hard it was to edit! You've inspired me again and I may try this xx
This is genuinely genius. The novelty of this idea plus the obvious work thats gone into it is awe inspiring.
A great message with a very interesting delivery. Bravo, Sammy. I love it.
Awesome video Sammy - such a simple concept but takes so long to make but the outcome is so worth it!
Wasn't expecting it to be quite like this HOWEVER I thoroughly enjoyed this video and am now going to proceed in pressing pause every 2 seconds in order to actually pay attention to the back ground details as such x
Wow. Really- wow. Always love something that refreshes my perspective on things and gives me a new lease of life. Good job on being so persistent haha!
Ooh, good work!

YES! I love it! What an awesome concept! So glad you stuck with it and finished this! It would've been a shame if we'd never seen it! I love it! LOVE IT! Well done, Sammy! Bravo! (And happy birthday ;) )
my personal highlight was hazel yelling 'improvement' to just really reiterate the message
Brilliant. Well worth the year long wait. Trending at #23 in the UK at the time of viewing. I remember being 23 nearly 2 decades ago. There was a song by Blink 182 at the time with the lyric 'no one loves when you're 23'. Glad to know lots of people loved you in when you were 23.
This video was just what I needed
this is super heckin TRIPPY sammy you gem
This is exactly what I needed; it's poignant and SO IMPRESSIVE SAMMYYY.
