Yasuyuki Muneta is a Japanese judoka. He won two gold medals and a silver medal at the World Judo Championships. Muneta competed in the heavyweight division despite being only 1.70 meters tall. He is famous for beating judokas much bigger than him with his superior technical and tactical abilities. Muneta was a master of Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi, Ko Soto Gari, Ippon Seoi Nage and Uchi Mata.

Outstanding Compilatiion of the great Y. Muneta. One of my Judo Heroes. As you can see, he often threw men much heavier and bigger than he was. And not only threw them, but launched them flying through the air.

His movements are fantastic. He represents the spirit of judo. It is beautiful to see his techniques and projections to which he often accompanies the care to keep the opponent's judogi falling (see the projection in minute one for example). Something that rarely happens in today's judo.
His sasae is one of the best ever

When someone is lower to the ground and built like a tank you're probably in for a hard time.
Simple techniques executed perfectly and aided by perfect timing and his athletic gifts.
That is a perfect body/size for a judoka. He gets in under his opponents and is strong and heavy enough to move them around. Great guy!
Normally I don't think much of heavy weight Judo. However the skills here is really worth admiring.

Do not mess with heavy weight judo guys, you would be in for a big surprise. Don't let their weight fool you, they are ahtletic, just like wrestling guys.

Muneta is one of the most undervalued Japanese judoka. It was unfortunate for him that Inoue and Suzuki were there at the same time.

I am absolutely no judo expert , but it would seem that Yasuyuki Muneta is making the best of what appears to be having a low center of gravity coupled with a small compact muscular build (and of course, excellent techniques).
What particular discipline is he practicing?
He looks like chubby and kind man, then you blink and find world spinning upside down and you on mat.
Like trying to fight a fire hydrant.

Wish i'd found this guy when I was able to be on the mat .....i'm 1.72m and always weighed in an heavyweight I'm sure I could have used a few of his techniques. In fact I think I spotted a tani toshi that was similar to the one I used in a grading to get my Green Belt as well as revenge on a really tall guy I lost to in my very first competitive grading.
