Judo is the real deal. When I was 7 I was being bullied. I took two courses and threw the bully over my shoulder flat on his back breathless. The art of surprise IS Judo. Using your own opponents wait to send him to the group hard.

Single and double leg takedowns should be added. Scoring needs to take back at least the yuko and no more penalties. After 5 minutes if its 0-0 the judges should award the fight to the most dangerous/active fighter.

At least allow for gripping below the belt with one arm. You would get back great techniques like kata guruma and sukui nage, without single and double legs (morote gari), if that is what they have an issue with.

Damn i haven't done judo for over 25 years i didn't know leg grabs had been removed now. Some of my favourite moves involved leg grabs and my best defense move to date was when i managed to cartwheel out of someone trying to throw me with a leg grab similar to 1:18 except i only avoided being thrown, this guy done incredible to spin it round so that he got the throw, amazing

The combined knowledge of leverage and center of gravity, combined with the flexibility, strength and speed of an experienced Judo practitioner, plus the knowledge that your opponent is nothing more than an 80kg weight that you can toss around however you want if you can get their feet off the ground, makes for some devastatingly amazing artistic dances. I could watch this shit all day. I love throws! Loved them when I was an amateur wrestler. I had an “unorthodox” throw that I made up. No one knew it, so I had high percentage success with it.

I remember seeing the throw at 7:00 in an old book about Cornish wrestling. It claimed it was a unique throw in that style. Cool to see it actually popping up in judo in a match. Goes to show that these techniques are universal.

@@vonjuez654 Very droll, Cornish is a form of jacket wrestling too, which is why I made the comparison and I think Uzbekistan has its own forms of belt/jacket wrestling. It interests me that around the world there are different style that start off with similar sets of parameters and you see the same techniques develop. In the UK (where I'm from) there are a whole range of traditional wrestling styles that are fairly esoteric in their rule sets but are nevertheless similar to styles from Asia and Europe. I practiced Judo in my youth up to becoming a brown belt and yes , the title of the video is fitting “up to the hilt” , because practically all of the throws were rare and unorthodox. I see titles in martial arts videos sometimes that understate or overstate the content of them ; not in this case

A lot of these throws came from the opponent overstepping / losing their position or balance, allowing the attacker to achieve the position where the throw was possible. That said, I think Judo has always had a bit more of the 'brute-strength' element than e.g. Aikido or Jujitsu (the other two 'redirect your opponents strength' style arts I'm semi-familiar with). Mind you, I admit my knowledge / experience with Judo is only ~25-30 years, and the early years are a bit hazy due to youth... so it may have been different way back when :D)

I gave this video a thumbs up just for "Ring of pride".🤘
What I love when you hone any skill enough is when you managed to improvise whithin that skill purely on instinct in a way that you would not be able to if you had the time to think about it. I did Judo for 15 years and I had a very unique style only centered on arm lock to the point where I always knew instinclively where my openent elbow where and how to move to start putting pressure on them, purely on instinct and whithout being limited by defined techniques (I know I should have practiced Ju Jutsu, but it was not an option at the tme ^^) But compared to some of these throws where you see them start something then litterraly FEEL, with their back and experience, the position of their oppenent and their center of gravity. Then adjust their posture midthrow to shake the balance of their oppenent and orient the throw. The amount of accumulated experience is mindblowing.
This sport is so sick. I wish it was more widespread where I live
