    I could hear this a thousand times (and I probably have since I own a Japanese red vinyl record of it I got in the 70s) and it never fails to thrill me with that amazing ecstatic finish! Thanks again for posting it.

    I share your feelings adding the 2nd movement is also great. Young Japan just after the 2nd World War is here.

    Lebhafte live Aufführung dieses fein komponierten Meisterwerks mit gut artikulierten und perfekt vereinigten Töne aller Instrumente. Der zweite Satz klingt echt lyrisch und der dritte sehr erfreulich. Der geniale Komponist/Dirigent leitet das perfekt trainierte Orchester im rhythmischen Tempo mit völlig effektiver Dynamik. Einfach atemberaubend!

    The first movement "Capriccio" shows strong affinity with the kind of writing American composer George Antheil was doing in 1948. It may be coincidental, but the resemblance is striking.

    第2楽章が伊福部朗の交響譚詩の第2譚を彷彿とさせるメロディ展開だなぁ。ぼくらが思ってる以上に相当の伊福部の音楽の影響を芥川は受けたのだろうな。

    @@FleuveAlphee Akutagawa went to the USSR in 1954 and was friends with many of the Soviet composers. This is music inspired by the best of Shostakovitch and the worst of Stalinism.
