My stash is tiny, and all skeins are planned for projects. I have no idea why I watched this video, yet here I am. Thanks for the video!

Thanks, this was helpful and I'm now on the Discord! I usually use Ravelry's "for sale or trade" stash feature when I'm destashing yarn, and it has worked pretty well for me.

I 'destash' by knitting my yarn and gifting a hand knitted item. I do consider my yarn collection as my personal bespoke Yarn Shop too. Ive just made an episode of how Ive Organised my collection on my KZread xhannel Bondi Crafter. I am an 'older' crafter but this love of Knitting and Quiltmaking NEVER goes. Its a lifetime passion even if there's a hiatus of 20 years like me. Love your conversation on yarn.

Gifting some of your yarn to your knitting/crocheting friends is also an option. Nothing like giving them some nice stash in a project bag you don’t use. You’re lighter and they are thrilled.

I think when downsizing anything whether yarn stash, clothing etc it's helpful to read about the sunk cost fallacy. Getting rid of something that you spent a lot of money on can feel quite difficult, but holding on to it and not using won't get the money back either, and sometimes having the physical space back in your home can be worth more than the item. I would love to use destash groups to buy some more yarn in the future but I do worry a little bit about moths as they are a bit of a problem with the climate where I live. In the past when I did buy some from a destash group I used a moth killing bomb on my entire yarn stash after I acquired it and touch wood it's been ok so far, but it's always at the back of my mind.

I haven't had any success in the discord server, but I have had luck oddly on Etsy and story sales. The issue with Etsy are the fees but honestly, getting yarn I don't need out of my house balances it out. Plus if they rate you, you get a very easy ratings boost. Outside of that, I always remove my destash yarn from my spreadsheet. I like to see in real time the numbers go down which provides some instant gratification while I'm waiting for someone to purchase.

Detaching is my big goal for 2024- my tastes and knitting have changed- and I made impulse buys that weigh me down! I liked the book you mentioned- it made me so curious about the authors! Can’t wait for your next video!

Stash is a personal preference thing and I think that’s so awesome! I am a little overwhelmed even with my somewhat medium-ish sized stash so I’m trying to be very intentional with any yarn purchases!! I want to start using what I have and being excited to start new projects with the yarns I choose!

I was wondering this very question this week and I joined the Destash That Yarn discord server and the yarn I was trying to destash sold in 10 minutes. It was a great experience!

Many yarn destash groups also allow needles, project bags, and other notions! The Discord group I mentioned has a separate channel for needles and notions ♥️

after destashing, it's important to really consider whether you should buy ANY more yarn in the first place. unless you are going to start a project IMMEDIATELY, do you actually want to spend all that money just to look at it and store it for a while until eventually you sell it at a loss? don't succumb to the scarcity mentality that indie dyers and big box store sales like to tempt you with, there will always be more yarn to buy later when you will actually need and use it. just say no!!!
