I like the shorter sleeve on you. I like the sleeves pattern detail. If you make it shorter it won’t be so obvious and it’s so pretty. Also dropped shoulders are just more casual than a set in sleeve. I think that the ease looks good for a casual shirt. I personally would wear it.

What a fun video! 👏🏻 I think it’s good to always remember that they’re talkimg about the colours you have next to your face. So if you wear your neon pink hat, make sure your sweater is a good colour on you. Also, if you wear a sweater that isn’t the best skin tone match, tie a scarf around you neck that is flattering or wear a great hat/headscarf/etc. I’m a winter and I believe a high contrast one, but I sneak in other colours in the summer when I have a tan. 😊

I’m team longer sleeve (agree that it looks more proportional to the oversized look) but as others have said - you’re the one who is going to wear it so go with what you feel comfortable in!

I'm pausing the video to say to have a look at the Lotus Lake Tee. I'm actually wearing it right now. It has shaping at the underarm section to reduce bulk there...very ingenious. If you don't like the lafe at the bottom , just leave it out. I knit mine with a bright pink Pima Cotton, and it's lovely 😊

Your Riley Tee is gorgeous. It tends to look a little heavier which is why the longer sleeve goes well with it. But, you have to make the length that is what you want to be more comfy in and make the best use of. Love the Sweet Shop Blanket and you might want to consider a pair of scrappy socks from your leftovers. Your Farnham Tee looks great too.

Try knitting a size that matches your upper bust measurement to decrease the extra fabric by your armpits. It works well for me. 😊

FWIW I think the shorter sleeve looks nicer. I agree that larger garments shouldn't be larger in all proportions.

I think it’s just the nature of the drop shoulder design calls for the longer sleeve on larger sizes. But this is your sweater and you can make the sleeves as long or short as you want to. Your Sweet Shoppe blanket is so pretty! Please consider selling your scraps if you decide to get rid of them. 😊

I’m team short sleeve. Either at the short length you have it or make it shorter by adding ribbing to where the drop shoulder ends. Or you could make the sleeves longer 3/4 perhaps. But in the end , you decide.

I prefer the shorter sleeve because that’s where my head feels like it should be ending - also, I don’t like having a hem bunching up in my elbow. But that’s my personal preference. I’d be that person who would try shortening the even shorter sleeve just out of curiosity. Especially since it’s a summer tee and not a sweater and you’re in Southern California, you want as much wearability as possible when it’s hot as balls outside. Heck, play around with it! Maybe pin the shorter sleeve up into the shirt to see what you think of the short sleeve before ripping it back to test it out.

I’m absolutely with you on the longer sleeves on the larger sizes. I really think it’s a grading issue, not a proportion issue. I think your shorter sleeve is more in line with what was probably intended by the pattern but shorter would also look good on you.

Agree with a lot of the comments on here. I did vote team long sleeve in your insta and do feel that the sleeve looks quite nice longer and it would be nice for spring/ autumn wearing when it’s kind of warm/kind of cool.. but I also totally forgot about the practicality of SoCal temps vs Canadian where I’m from. I also feel like a shorter sleeve, like maybe 1.5” total length from the underarm (or slightly shorter) would suit the tee fine and better suit your needs (which is where you’re leaning anyways ☺️). Either way you decide, your Riley Tee is looking amazing and I always appreciate your feedback on your knitting experience. Excited to see your Farnham tee too. You’re inspiring me to consider some spring tees too!

I'm team shorter sleeve. I don't think it matters much for proportions and in the end, it first and foremost needs to be wearable for you. Yay for the colour analysis, I'll definitely watch that one.

Like your decision to keep the shorter sleeve and must say it fits you well! But consider you knitted the size for a larger person, which has larger shoulders usually, so on you they go down more than they would on someone that actually has this size.

As a larger busted woman, I feel like drop shoulders and saddle shoulders are not the most flattering for me. I think that’s what gives the extra bulk of fabric on the sides. I do agree that larger bust sizes don’t mean everything needs to be proportionally larger.

Hi Leslie, since you made the Farnham Sweater and now you're making the Farnham Tee I was wondering if you'd consider making a comparison between the two, with the main differences and if you think we could get away with buying only one of the two to make both winter and summer versions. I find them really similar to one another and, except for the gauge and the detail of the neck, I can't see any major difference between the two, but I'd like to hear your opinion about that! And it's not to say that I don't want to support the designer, I love Sophie's designs and she makes beautifully written pattern, but I'd rather support her by buying two different designs if I can🥰

What about no sleeve, more like a vest and use a cami if it is too low in the arm pit. There was a very popular garment last summer from November knits that I made for my daughter and she loves it. She wears it over a shirt in the fall.

I wonder if the larger sizes are graded for less positive ease (as so many are) and so there’s more distance for the sleeve to travel as the size increases and positive ease decreases? Whatever you do, the tee is so cute!!

Your Riley Tee is so pretty, and the longer sleeve looks really nice when you're standing with your arms at your sides, but as you were moving I couldn't stop noticing how it bunched up in the crook of your elbow. If it were me, I'd definitely shorten those sleeves quite a bit as I'd hate having that fabric there. I think grading for larger sizes can be really difficult since our bodies are all shaped differently and you should feel confident modifying any pattern to fit your own body and preferences!

I’m about your size and I agree with you the grading being out of whack for sizing. If it was me, I’d give it full length or bracelet length sleeves. I think it’d be lovely for a spring/autumn garment. This way it deals with the extra fabric at the bust/armhole and will make it look proportional?

Both sleeve lengths look fine and the sleeve detail is lovely. To my eyes, the shorter sleeve makes the shoulder appear a bit broader. I think the longer sleeve is more in proportion to the shoulder. However, comfort is more important.

When i saw the reel on Instagram, i much preferred the longer sleeve, but seeing it here as you were moving around more, I actually much prefer the shorter one. That said, dont let random people's opinions on the internet get in your head. It's very clear that you prefer shorter, and you should stick with that no matter what we all think.

In my humble opinion maybe the drop sleeve style/patterns r not for u. If u r set on dropped shoulder style then measure from arm to arm where u desire the seam for sleeves to begin but make sure the underarms r shaped to ur dimensions. I luv dropped shoulder for around home but not in public. Again, this is my humble opinion.

Hi Leslie, You are really having a dilemma on your dropped short sleeve sweater. I will give you my input since you spent a lot of time trying to explain the challenges on making your decision. 1st, the longer length sleeve seems to be more flattering to you. That's likely why you got so many folks telling you that. 2nd of all, dropped sleeve sweaters don't flatter the larger human form- that's just the laws of physics applied to knitting shapes. Someone like Andrea Mowry of DreaReneeKnits who is willowy, slender and a wonderful knitter can make a dropped shoulder sweater in which the sleeve has NO CAP and she looks simply fabulous. If people who are larger try to adopt this look to themselves, no matter how you slice the knitting adjustment pie, we still look like a lineman for a professional football team! That shape accentuates our size. That is why I steer clear of this type of sweater as it is NOT a flattering one for me! A sleeve cap only applies to a shaped shoulder garment. There's no 'CAP' in a regular dropped shjoulder sleeve, its a rectangle that is attached to the body of the sweater. If you want to make a tee that has a regular tee shape you must pick a pattern that has a shaped cap that gets inserted at the shoulder point where the arm meets the shoulder, NOT a severe dropped shoulder. Sorry to tell you what you probably don't want to hear but knitting is a journey where we sometimes find out after the fact of all the knitting that it just doesn't look good. I do however think your yarn choice of color and gauge is superb! The light ethereal blue totally compliments your gorgeous eye color and complexion. And the desire to knit something simple like a dropped shoulder top is a natural, given that the absence of shoulder/cap shaping results in a quicker to the finish line sweater. But to achieve a look that you will like when you look in the mirror at your reflection you just need to bite the bullet and select a tee pattern that is a fitted shoulder and sleeve cap combo. Then your short row shaping will actually compliment you and you won't be disappointed with the overall look. If you choose to go with dropped shoulder then ultimately its your gig, an you need to do what brings you joy!!!!!! Have a great week, Carrie from Northern San Francisco Bay Area😘❤🐕🐑🌹☕🌞🧵🪡🧶
