Yarn Shopping at Joann and Michaels: Where's the Wool??

Come with me to try to find some #yarn that's not acrylic at the big box craft stores. Spoiler alert: it's almost impossible.
In today's video, I go yarn shopping at Joann and Michaels to see what the options are for knitters and crocheters who prefer wool and natural fibers. Answer: not much.
I'm also testing out the VERY FEW wool yarns I did find!

I have made a vest from fisherman's wool striped with Patons wools, and I love it. It's very warm and it does soften with washing. You can also wash them with a cap of conditioner to soften them further.

Lion Brand classic wool and Fisherman’s wool is generally available. I have found that people who make things for children or things that need to be washed on a regular basis tend to use acrylic.

A found just a few hanks of the Fisherman's wool, not enough for a sweater, unfortunately. All the other LB yarns were majority acrylic-I know they have more wool yarns on their site, but the stores aren't stocking them.

Walmart usually sells Red Heart, Peaches and Cream cotton, and sometimes Wool Ease. Lot of Walmarts in my area, but they carry different stuff.

The JoAnn in my area has put the LionBrand Local Wool on clearance, probably because it was $17 for very little yardage and no one would buy it.

Unfortunately I feel that these stores are suffering because a lot of people order online. I try to patronize my LYS first. If they don’t have it they have graciously offered to order for me.

This doesn’t surprise me. These stores don’t specialize in anything so they don’t have a great selection. As somebody who paints, I would never buy fine art supplies at these stores either. The prices are outrageous, and the selection is terrible, especially at Michael’s.

Joann's also carries Lion Brand - which offers their Fisherman's Wool (absolutely fantastic rustic wool), Baby Alpaca Natural (soft like a DREAM), Alpaca Chainette (haven't worked with myself by the balls are so soft) I've also seen on their app, although not in my local Joann - Eddie Bauer Wool Paca Fisherman's is the only one I think is price comparable to online options - but if you need to pick up some in person options, Joann does have some... limited options, but a few

I mean, I think I showed pretty clearly what's available in my local store; it's great that your store has those others, but not all of them do.

Wool ease is 80% acrylic. The Fisherman's wool at my Joann's was very limited, not enough for a sweater.

I find it really hard to believe that you didn't know Walmart had yarn. They have always had craft sections it's only downsized in the past years big time that yarn is kinda the only thing left. Unless you live under a rock, I'm not buying that. I do, however, agree that the use of wool or wool blends and not acrylics is my only option. The only use for acrylic for me would be crafts. But my daughter loves to use it with crocheting. And affordability wise. Living in the States, you guys have more options than most people. Us here in Canada do also but not in the affordability way. It's way more expensive for us. I'm new at knitting and would love to use the good stuff as I call it. 😊

Too much talking for the info given- too many unnecessary repetitions.
