Yankee Vice Restoration
Ғылым және технология
This video follows the basic restoration of an old Yankee Vice.
This novelty vice is intended to function as both a bench vice and machine vice, without un-holding the work piece in between!
I came across this vice for sale locally, and cheap. Anytime I find a 100 year old tool for less than beer money, I pick it up. Well not really, I already have too much crap, but in this case I did.
Obviously the Yankee Vice concept was a failure, because it no longer exists. And I think it was marketed more as a novelty for the 'at home handyman' crowd than for professional use.
This version is the four inch model. It was also available in smaller sizes.

The Myford is glorious. How did you redo the brass tag? Also make more vise/wrench sculptures.

I just polished 100 years worth of patina away like it was nothing. I really wanted to nickel plate the tag as well, but...

Also. I have a complaint. The three inch wrench has insufficient clamping force to hold up both the six inch wrench and record vice.

@Geoffrey - you've hit the big time when @Hand Tool Rescue is watching!
There is something immensely satisfying about watching someone who is is very good at something do the thing that they are very good at.
While I do enjoy the Land Rover restoration videos, I love the tool restoration videos that much more!
These smaller projects are a lot of fun to watch. You should do more of them.
The tool restorations and Land Rover restoration aren't too different. I like both kinds of content. Thanks. Yeah!!
I'm glad there was a little commentary at the end, but there are already many tool restoration videos with text only commentary, I love watching yours for the kiwi humour along the way...keep it going - David, from the West Island.
Now the master of vice restorations for all time
No, thank you! Your editing and humour are my favourite on youtube right now
“Yay!”
Ooohh, you know it's a good day when Geoff releases a new vid
First couple of minutes, I was thinking, "Hey, that thing is in pretty decent shape, he'll take it apart, give it a good scrubbing, a fresh coat of paint, some greasing, maybe do a rework on the grips, it's done..." Then you did that! Amazing work, fascinating result. A good job done perfectly.
Even if the video isn't about the Rover, this is still the best channel on KZread!
Still my favourite channel on KZread. Love these videos as much as the Landy ones.
Love both the tool restoration videos and the Land Rover stuff. I'll watch anything you put out.
Was I one of the five that thought “yay” or did Geoffrey greatly underestimate the number of weirdos that watch his channel?

Look...one of the neatest channels to watch on this here KZread! Sense of humor, awesome music at times, brilliant cinematography, a good accent and the Rover is nice too.. It’s all about the frequency of the content... it’s meant to enslave you... just go with the flow and dedicate every waking moment to serving us ingrates and you won’t need a real job!!

Maybe he thinks you have a "good accent" 😋
Rip the screws. Mother puts away (tidies up) so much of my stuff in 'safe places', it feels like I'm down to half my tools and parts. Near as annoying as finding out she's sold my gear on gumtree, thinking it was hers or finding my things in the wheelie bin, because she sees it as junk. Nice job on the vice Geoffo. Always a pleasure to watch you work.
Underrated channel for sure... Thumbs up!!!
It's so refreshing to watch a thorough restoration with great attention to detail.
Nice paint job, nice vice, nice restoration.... and, nice balls!

Great restoration and video!!
Thank you for continuing to make quality content like this.
I swear I was waiting for "I make a new one" to pop up, the first half of the video was like watching "my mechanics" but with a subtle Kiwi sense of humour. Five thumbs up 👍
Yay!!!! I love tool restorations! It’s always neat to see how other people solve problems
Love the gratuitous use of the shaper. Something mesmerising about it!
Great video - looking forward to more of this (and Landy of course....)
The highlight for me was seeing the shaper used in a project. I enjoyed the gear cutting attempt, but seeing tools/machinery being used to do "real" work fills me with happiness. Even if it's a "made for youtube" restoration of a vice you probably won't ever use in anger, it's still somehow better..

Also, I just read through the comments. Surprised there isn't (yet) anybody complaining about you ruining it, cleaning off the patina, etc.
Really like how this one turned out. A lot of work involved.
I’m a Landrover guy and a tool guy so I love all of your content!!!
Your work is second to none, great work. Keep it up👍
I have a box on the shelf labeled "a safe place". It has helped me a lot over the years.
So talented! And this was so relaxing to watch!
Magnificent as always, a joy to watch you work.

Great video, as always! I may be subscribed to over 500 channels, but you are one of just two that get the 'all notifications' treatment (This Old Tony being the other).
Holy smokes, that's the best use of a shaper I've ever seen. I thought they were mostly useless compared to fancy CNC'ed machine, so that was great!
Thoroughly enjoyable and very well done. Thanks!
To be honest,, I watch for your grit, determination, and most of all,, your wit.. work on whatever, I'm gonna watch,, saved the plating vid for a good gut laugh when needed. Carry on,, please. Cheers,ed.
This is just a beautiful film. I will echo others in that I love the Landy restoration, but the tool videos are a work of art in themselves.
Awesome seeing the shaper in action again
Thanks for sharing! I think Mr. Pete would approve.
Some great machining there. Well done.
An absolutely brilliant video, really enjoyable.
Beautifully restored and what a pleasure the scenario and humour as always. Keep the videos coming and thank you!
Always stoked when I get a notification from this channel! Keep up the fantastic work! You keep making them and we'll keep watching!
Your videos are by far the best on KZread. The time and effort you put into them does not go unnoticed! Amazing work. Skål from Copenhagen 🍻🇩🇰
Looking great! I have a love/hate relationship with any restoration, I love to see old worn out things get a new life but hate that it looses the history, the scars of life, the signs that tells me it’s been a hard working useful device.
Looks great! Thanks for uploading!
A great thanck you from France ! Your videos are always interesting, it’s a real pleasure to follow your different restaurations ! My english is poor but i still can follow your good advices. I really look forward the next land rover adventures and for what you have already restored of your car : congratulations !! I hope to watch it soon. Thancks a lot
I guess I’m one of those 5 guys! I get so excited when I seee ANY video of yours pop up! From the lathe to the rover to garage moving/ organization and everything in between. You have a unique style, your sense of humor is awesome and your skill level is off the charts! Keep up the amazing work! And thank you for putting out this content, I know there is a lot of work that goes into it off the screen too.
I am here for Land Rover but watch and enjoy every video you post!
You are one brilliant SOB!
Great job and video. The music choices were on point.
You sir, are an artist.
A work of art Goeff.
Ah Geoffrey, what a nice restoration and with the added 'thrill' of seeing the restored Stahlwille socket set in action!
What ever you do you go all in ... awesome res ... like it very much 👍🏽💪🏽
Nice work fella, love that deep thick hammerite blue.
Love the hand tool rescue wrench too. Caught that at the end....🇨🇦
Top job as usual Geoff 👍 Really enjoy them - especially the commentary !
Great breakfast viewing here in Gloucestershire. Thanks for a very entertaining video.👍
Great resto. More of everything please.
Another excellent video. Thanks for sharing your videos.
Ah, I have one of those safe places too. One day I'll find it and there will be huge piles of stuff there! I loved your series in the myford resto, and the Landy is brill too!
Yay from me. I have one of these but the smaller version, the 992. It was originally on my grandfathers workbench and it's the only vice I've ever owned.
I don’t say “I’ll put this somewhere safe” anymore, I now say “I’ll just put these in a portal to an unknown dimension”

You have the best restorations, and also the best soundtracks 😁 awesome video!
Lining up that hole through the body of the vice must have been an exercise in patience :D. Thanks for your great video.
Fantastic video as always! Thank you
Geoffrey, very nice rework Sir. Nice twist on the music in the back ground. Keep them coming and stay safe, you made my Friday night a little more entertaining.. Cheers & Thanks!
Fantastic "silly video"! Always appreciate the time and effort you put into your projects, this is a brilliant restoration of a wonderful old bench vice👍👍
I enjoyed every facet of this video very much, always a pleasure!
thanks for sharing! great restauration!
I loved the discussion after the restoration, please keep doing that! Added a lot to the video :)
Thanks for the video. I started watching your channel for the fun tool restoration videos. Though the saga of of the Land Rover has been fun too.
Friday night, I had whiskey and a good book, but as soon as I saw that you had posted I ditched the book and watched this😁
My Land Rover restoration is only about 22% finished, but it would only be about 15% had I not had my restored 100+ year old vice. Bravo for filming what all of us weirdos who love and use similar tools think about a lot more than you may think.
Yay! Thanks Geoff! The spaghetti western music was stellar!
Great video very impressed watched you on the big screen cause I can but absolutely loved it
well i came here originally for the landrover stuff a long time ago. but by damn i love to watch your tool restoration videos, i feel i need a myford in my life.
I love your video's, always funny and exceptionally well done! Cheers from Washington State in the USA!
I think that vice had been apart before a number of times...just didn’t look dirty or craggy enough, never to have been stripped down before... My own vice, is a Record Engineers Bench vice, which was my Fathers, I inherited it when he passed away, and it’s older than me...that’s over 64 years old, and still works like it should do...I had it apart once since I’ve owned it, for a gentle clean-up and some new grease on some parts... Your vice looks a treat, and I’m sure will be a useful tool, but more of a rebuild than a restoration...there were probably vice buffs watching who were crying at you ruining the patina that the vice had acquired over the years...personally, I think you did a great job...as usual...well, apart from the cock-up on the Landy sub frame of course...lol...👍🏻
Very cool vice bro, nice job.
Great content! I would watch you restore just about anything. The aesthetic of your videos is very pleasing. Nice work on the threads, I know next to nothing about machining but I imagine there is a few thousand ways to cock that up. Keep the vids coming regardless of content!
We get it! You have a shaper and a lathe and most of us don't! Love the videos! Keep it up! Why am I yelling?!?
Great job Mr Crocker
i think i was one of the 5. i hung out through the drill press videos, but i kinda noped out 3 or so videos into the Land Rover. that felt like ages ago. nice to see you still making non Land Rover videos. great job.

top work Geoff.
Nice adjustable wrench there! I think I know where you got it! Tbh, that’s how I found this channel. KZread algorithm done right.
Amazing Rube Goldberg restoration! Surprised the base cones weren't lapped in and the slides hand scraped!! 😅 Great video, keep 'em coming. 🤘
Always a pleasure. Cheers!
Awesome as always!
Bloody Brilliant! Thanks mate. keep them coming.
Absolutely love your editing style, just makes for such a funny an entertaining video :)
Thoroughly enjoyed
Good rebuild, enjoyable video!
Love the vice video but REALLY love the Land Rover videos!😄
Yay 🥳 The editing is superb ^^ Thank you for the great video 😊
I think it is ok if you lost the screws, rivets are just fine. Astonishing work you did there 👏
