Great review I own this bar not crazy about Alexa and have owned this now for 4 plus months its the Soundbar I enjoy movie/tv shows is enjoyable.

Your assessment of the virtual DTS sound quality was helpful as that was the feature I was most curious about. I currently have a Klipsch RSB-8 soundbar/sub system so I’m not sure this Yamaha would be that much of an improvement (if any)

So the consumer wants the bar to blend in and disappear but then Yamaha puts gloss on the porthole on the sub?? Anyway, just ordered this bar today and can't wait to try it out! Great video and thanks!

Hi, I have an option to buy either Soundbar Bose Cinemate 1SR or Yamaha YAS-209 soundbar (both second hand). I am confusing which one would be better for listening music. Main purpose I plan to buy a sound bar is to play high quality music. I like the amazon integrated with Yamaha YAS 209 but in Bose Cinemate the alexa can be connected through an external cable (that is what the seller says). But I am wondering if Bose Cinemate 1SR would be better for music than Yamaha YAS 209. It would be great if you can give me your opinion about this. Thank you.

I have (for over 10yrs) the Yamaha YSP1 and it's still sounding great.. I did try hooking up a SHU sub to it and no sound from the sub.. I contacted SHU and was told it should work.. Any suggestions? Thanks Joe

One of the best soundbars out there. Great app, flawless Alexa capabilities and decent sound quality. Mids are crisp clear, there is enough bass, and it is really good for music listening where most sounbars struggle.

Suggestion, pls: on your movie the color of soundbar is gray rather, or brown even, than black (see scene together with Subwoofer, which looks realy black). Small improvement with ambient light adjustment (during movie recording) will help with this issue. The soundbar color is deep black, in fact. It could be confusing for some people they look for black color equipment. It would be a pitty not to buy because of this small issue... especially, as your presentation said (accurately) that equipment is almost INVISIBLE (also because of deep black color, not GREY :))

hello.. in the video you mention HDMI ARC. My Samsung does not have an HDMI ARC port. There are 2 regular HDMI ports and the optical port. Does that mean that I cannot connect the Yamaha sound bar using an HDMI cable??

How does this compare to ysp 2500?

Will the soundbar controller APP allow me to listen to the TV sound using my bluetooth headphones? I can do this with the Vizio soundbar that I currently own.

Yamaha needs to do a new soundbar with Atmos & DTS:X on it, their current one the YSP-5600 is horribly outdated now.

@NOOKEY69 Hard!! Nope, home theater in a box and soundbars are about the same to me. Underpowered receivers, cheap & plastic as hell speakers, and a uninspired subwoofer. It's better to just buy a separate receiver and your speaker/subwoofer brand of your choice.

Though I generally agree with you, home theatre in a box's vary a great deal on quality as does everything, BOSE for example was one of the first and I thought at the time they sounded pretty awesome but the actual part quality was really poor, literally using paper domes in their speakers.

@@jefferyberg2850 is coz no sound bar should be expensive. If you are willing to pay 500+ $ for sound improvements go the AVR route, and yamaha knows best, they dont want to scam us, they know the sound bars limits since they are one of the most experts in thier field. But if you just want a better sound clearer dialogue than your tv speakers and music playing buy a sond bar.

@@TJ.1 I highly agree mine is a little over a year old and this replaced my Yamaha Yas-207 which still works perfectly just wanted the use of Wi-Fi services which is a big improvement and makes the sound bar just amazing, otherwise the bars are the same and I agree with the reviews that's a good thing (DTS-Virtual X works great in my medium size condo living room and my family and friends were amazed when I asked Alexa to play Spotify and it cast the music to the bar and impressed everyone who i have had over to hear it! its amazing, this feature and a lot more all this from the Masters of entertainment no one knows it better or has been around longer than Yamaha hats off to them and to there continued success, I am a Yamaha customer for life.

What does soundbar have to do with Dolby Vision or HDR? I thought Dolby Vision and HDR are related to the image quality, not audio quality? And does it mean Dolby Atmos is not supported on YAS-209?

I was thinking the same thing when he mentioned Dolby Vision and HDR10+. But if I had to guess, I think it has to do with people who’ll be using an external video source to plug into the HDMI input of the soundbar and then use the HDMI output of the soundbar to connect to the TV. So if the external video source is a blu-ray player that can play DV/HDR10+ content, that image enhancement won’t show up on the TV since the soundbar doesn’t support it. But yeah, YAS-209 doesn’t support Dolby Atmos.

There's no crossover issues on mine - new drivers and on-board amplification makes for a different level of performance compared to the YAS207. It's not louder, but the DSP provided through the Qualcom chipset is better.

Just use standard mode, enable enhanced dialogue option. Every other option is useless.

Hello. I’m using this product with my Xbox and connecting it with my phone via Bluetooth since a month and it’s so much immersive one with a splendid sound! The Yamaha! Mind blowing!!! But the issue I’m facing is can’t connect with my Bravia LED tv which has no HDMI arc support.. if I wanted to watch a movie by connecting a pendrive on tv - this bar is not supporting on my normal hdmi port. Will be there any solution for this?

I have tried two Vizio soundbars and they sound good but stopped working after a few months. Not buying this brand again.

To Digital Trends over to anyone else who might now, can you turn off the Alexa feature so it can't be listening in? I know you have to activate it but I'd rather just not have any of that potential for someone else listening in. It creeps me out.

It does not. But you can get into some Vizio soundbars that start at $500 which do. Stay tuned for more reviews as we'll be looking at some of those soon!

No. Just regular Dolby Digital and DTS only.

soundbars always look cheap even when they cost a lot, one exception the Def tech, B&W and bang and olufsen soundbars

I bought Samsung ht-sf150 sound bar only paid under £70 and it looks nice qualify looks good with some weight very😊 with my purchase so far it also has the HDMI arc and for the money does what I need. Recommend it

I guess it depends on how you connect your gear. If you use the streaming apps on your tv (if it supports Dolby Vision of course) or connect a Chromecast ultra/google TV or Apple TV 4K directly to your tv via HDMI arc (sending the sound data to your soundbar from your TV via HDMi/Optical) you should get Dolby vision. Perhaps you could bypass the soundbar via the HDMi-ARC out port but I’m not sure about that.

If you need to use Alexa to describe something try to spell it out instead. You were thoughtful enough not to use it in the beginning but a few scenes later with habit you started saying Alexa. Next time, A L E X A. ;)

I agree 💯 percent because I'll never use it... just an excuse to raise the price. I know someone who has this soundbar, and she said that the Alexa doesn't always respond to her anyway...go figure.

Do not buy, Do not buy. I watch this video, purchase one. The yamaha APP is extremely difficult to use. Do not use a small company's soundbar, purchase a soundbar that follows your TV's brand. I returned.

This soundbar is junk it always stops for no reason and it triggers Alexa when the tv says stuff like that. Had this since July GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

It's true, just Alexa will do. But I find the lack of any greeting somewhat rude. ;)

I've had this soundbar for a few months and despise it. It's possibly the worst piece of technology I've purchased in a decade or more. Alexa started working on it and it finally connected to my Firestick so I could use one remote... then it all quite after a few days. Here's my original review on Amazon... ---- UPDATE #3: I've had it with this piece of @#$%!! It's going back on Monday! Soundbar turns itself off after a few minutes... So, you pause a movie to take a phone call and come back a few minutes later. You press PLAY and there is no sound. Now your TV is on and your soundbar is off. Power button (which controls both) now turns my TV off and my soundbar on. You can imagine the next few minutes of frustration... Find the other remote, get them both turned on, and them go back to find where you were in the movie. I HATE THIS SOUNDBAR! --- UPDATE #2: After using this for about two weeks, I'm taking it back down to a ONE STAR. This thing is plagued with problems and I would NOT recommend it. --- UPDATE: I got about 75% of this working and I'm much happier now. There was far more setup than I anticipated for a device with Alexa built in. --- Bought this because of the Consumer Reports Review. I wish I hadn't. My old Yamaha receiver connected to Alexa so fast and easy that I don't remember doing it. THIS one, with Alexa built in, managed to disable every smart device in my house. I can no longer do all the easy things that were once seamless. "Alexa, Tune to _____ on Hulu"... NOPE - has no idea what I'm talking about. I'll ask it a question and another device will answer from another room. I can't seem to delete it to start over either... I hate this thing.

Biggest piece of crap I've ever invested money into....hard wired in to the TV and and cuts in and out like its running on bluetooth....its absolutely infuriating
