You keep saying this bike is a touring bike and not a dual sport?....it's not a light dirt bike like the beta but it's an offroad bike more than on road. You are a road rider getting into offroading i guess? Don't slow down and it won't feel heavy. Hills, rocks, sand etc you need more acceleration. You are balking cos you think it's heavy. I get it but don't blame the bike so much. And yes theres easier bikes to ride now and the newer bikes are more responsive etc and don't bog down as much if you let go of the accelerator like this one does in stock form but they are the SAME WEIGHT if not heavier. Consider getting stiffer suspension. Keep the power on and use the clutch more to control what power this bike has.

Hi Steve, loved the vid. I have the same bike and have just started to Greenlane over here in England, enjoy it, it’s a real challenge but sand?. ..terrifying at the moment but I will conquer it! You certainly keep up the speed and that’s what I will do next, no more paddling with my feet! Keep on inspiring this old biker! Doug.

Thanks for the positive comments mate. Yeah the keys for riding sand is keep the power on, the weight back to keep the front wheel lite. Then just steer the rear so lean the bike more than turn the handle bars. Thanks for watching Regards Steve

Hi Glen very jealous you have a couple of really nice bikes but you might have to go for a three bike policy mate... LOL. Sounds like you need a 480/500 or a 690/701 KTM or even a DRZ 650. Man you would have a great selection to choose from. Thanks for watching Regards Steve

Hi Bob no I didn't change the ECU mate. They adjust as you ride them I believe. I have opened up the airbox, fitted the Kev mod and have the Barrett exaust and it runs really sweet. I think they have more than enough power so really pleased with it. It does look good just has a bit more of a modern look to it. Thanks for watching Regards steve

Great video, congratulations. I wonder: what tires do you use, did you deflate the tires before going into the sand, what setting do your shocks have, more in the soft range, or in the hard range? I do light enduro with my XTZ, which forces me to have to adjust the damping in the rather hard range. And when I go into the sand, and since the bike is not that light; I have to ride rather fast for the bike to float, and since the damping is rather stiff; the handlebar gets rather nervous. By the way, I live in a desert, in the north of Chile (South America).

Hi Mario, thanks for the compliment. The tyres were on the bike when I bought it and they seem pretty good. The front is a Anakie Wild and the rear is a Motoz Tracionator Rally Z. I have a set of Dunlop 606,s ready to go on as I can get these locally and are pretty cost effective. Not sure on my damping settings but I know the springs are set up for my weight so the bike handles bloody good. Had a look at Northern Chile and I seriously didn't realise you had so much desert. You would feel at home out in the outback here in Australia. Got a couple of desert rides coming up so you'll enjoy them Thanks for watching Regards Steve

Thanks bud! No the box on the back is a Tactix brand box from Bunnings only $60 odd dollars I just use it for my day trips at this stage

Another great vid👍 I have one of these great bikes. I’ve noticed you have the Quadlock setup attached to the small bar in behind the screen. I’ve tried this but the Quadlock bracket including the anti-vibe fitting doesn’t sit far enough past the dash to allow me to twist and lock my phone in place. Any tips would be appreciated. Cheers

Hi Jase thanks mate. Yeah your right the phone doesn't quite turn on to the locking mechanism. You have to force it. I have ordered some QL spacers to try and fix the problem. Will keep u posted Thanks for watching Regards Steve

Nice video, I am also a new owner of this type of bike. By the way how did you mount the Mobile Phone on top of the console, what mounts/claps did you use? do you have links where you bought them from?

Hi Tam so just got some parts from Quadlock and go the phone/gps mounted much better. So I used a mirror mount, a 50mm extension arm and then the knuckle adaptor and finally the mount. Got the phone in front of the speedo so it works a treat. U can use the vibration dampener if u want of course. Just use the knuckle to adjust the face of the phone to your liking Hope this helps Regards Steve

Hi Steve great stuff mate 👍 was just wondering now you've been out more with the tenere given cost, performance comfort on and off road ability how do you feel the bike stacks up against the ktm 690r you commented about the 690 and the dr650 I know on paper the ktm is worlds ahead do you feel the tenere may be a better overall package?

Hi Jim yeah good question. The Tenere is really good bang for buck for a touring bike. The engine is a bit crude and it's heavy but super reliable and comfy. Great if your doing open roads and gravel but your not going to far of road IMO. The DRZ is similar but can go a bit more offroad but is quite low in power again IMO. Both great options if your on a budget. The 699/701 is the best option by far, take it anywhere, not too heavy and plenty of grunt. The downsides are lots of electronics to go wrong, expensive to buy and not quite as comfortable for touring as the 660 Tenere. I'm still keen to get into a later model 690 and will set it up the same but will fit a seat concepts seat. Thanks for watching mate Regards Steve

I'm on a budget for sure no new bike for me so very much thinking reliability. I always hear the fun factor with ktm machines out ways the reliability question and if money was no object I'd consider the 690/701 there's a few xt660r and xt660x around too as the dr is my preference thanks for the content 👍

@@dirtbikeadv nailed it.. outback tracks and touring is where this bike is at. Simpson crossing, probs not so much unless fully supported. All the others, canning, tanami, birsdville, oodnadatta, gibb river, pdr are all within this bikes capability IMO.
