In this video, I will share my opinion about both bikes, Tenere 700 and Tenere 660. I will also show you the new luggage rack from a German company named Donner Tech.

    Thanks for making these videos Pavlin! Its been really helpful to see how an experienced motorcycle traveler evaluates the bike, upgrades, changes etc. I'm getting my tenere 700 in march, and i couldn't be more excited!

    Nice video, first time I see a comparison beetween the last of the monos and the new bicylinder Ténéré, and as a thumper fan, this is the only reason that holds me back from seriously thinking about getting one. That rack design is superb, pricey, but steps above the rest of the market. Thanks for the content.

    Hey mate, great videos truly! The Tenere 700 is a dream bike of mine, but we have to deal with the budget we have, also I wanted my first adventure bike to be a single cylinder. Im hesitant between the XT660Z and the XT660R, whats your take on the R, as it is 25 kilos lighter?

    Some good observations of the differences between the two bikes ,as you prepare the T7 for your style and requirements. I have recently changed my oil/air cooled R1200R for an 8 year old 1200GS LC,with a low seat and am learning the differences every ride . I am not an off road rider so it is a comfortable road bike for me .At 62 yrs old I have no regrets with this change !.

    Since I watching your channel I found myself to be a motorcycle rider rather than a traveller. Of course I like the travelling meeting the forein cultures but motorcycling much more. I remember motorcycle and how it rides at the twisty passes in Alps, I remember every-single-time I rode the Transfagaraşan or Jadranska Magistrala hitting the cylinders of GS to the tarmac. I remember how I felt with the bike and on the bike (from old Jawa to nowadays bikes) I bought the KTM 890 Adventure R because it increases my riding pleasure on and off the road. For me the bike really matters. Not for travelling, but for pleasure of the ride - that is my mindset. Have a nice Christmas Marek

    I used to love these mono cylinder bikes, but indeed there are nice improvements with modern bikes. Thank you for this review. I'll comment on three weaknesses of the T700 I consider: 1. The absence of cruise control, a big miss when in liaison 2. Lacks a few liters of fuel capacity, not that petrol stations may miss, just to refuel less often, and provide more flexibility when choosing the station e.g. the one less expensive in an area 3. The excessive seat hight, as I would have appreciated 5 cm less for my size. Now that said, a sweet spot to me is the Tenere is assembled in France 😃 Ride fun

    Hi Pavlin. The Tenere seat is at my waist height so I am too short for the bike. I bought a new MT07 in 2017 and have done 18,000 miles (England) since then. The furthest I have been in one trip was to Croatia and Slovenia. This engine is absolutely brilliant so in my view you have made the right choice. I normally get 80+ miles per gallon if I don't ride too fast and the engine torque means you don't have to rev it too much. Ride safe my friend.

    Nice video! Thanks again! The luggage rack from Donner Tech is indeed very expensive but the quality is on another level!! It fits the shape of the bike perfect!     @@Ahduciekwndnbbbsvvvghhhyyyyy you are absolutely right. It‘s a lot of money and it hurts to spend that amount! but the owner from Donner Tech rides also a T7 and you can see that in his products. Everything is cnc machined from full Aluminium and fits like a glove. Ride safe

    @@wanderlustadventures8850 For €700 it not only should fit like a glove, but also gold plated & able to fix itself to the motorcycle . I paid £90 seven years ago for a Rentec sports carrier for a Bandit & thought I was being ripped off . The manufactures are laughing all the way to the bank .

    "I can speak but you can not hear me" it is that subtle type clarification and attention to details that makes your discussions, opinions, personal conclusions valuable. At 80, I will never do the adventure ridding you do. I am in good shape BUT still not a kid of 65 I've been ridding 4 years and I do pratice and push my skills to improve and explore my skills. I live where we have many miles of good open little used roads, flats and mountains plus a lot of great "Off Roads" I ride a Harley soft tail and a shaft drive 1100 Honda Shadow Do you have a thought on would the Teneray be a comfortable ride on 4-500 mile day Thanks

    I love your garage Pavlin. I am jealous. Not had a garage for the 22 years I have lived in Spain. Your luggage rack cost more than I paid for my adventure bike. So far I have had 13 years of adventuring on it, and counting. The new bike has about 50% more power than the old one. 48 bhp is sufficient, as you have proven. However, the extra is a nice luxury to have. I hope you have many more years adventuring on it.

    Hello Pavlin, I would recommend putting thread lock on all the bolts of your rack (i.e take them out and start again), especially taking into account the sort of roads you travel on. I fitted a SW-Motech rack and carrier (another German company) to my Tiger 900 and they actually supplied a mini tube of it with the rack. Cheers, Gordon

    I have a 660 SM and love it to bits. I think a twin is better for long road trips due to a smoother engine..........however if a mint 660Z came up at the right money I would give it serious consideration.

    Hi Pavlin. Aways nice to see your videos. I have only one question: have you considered crash bars yet? The plastic side covers are very expensive. A tip from me: on my T7 I have Outback Motortek crash bars, they are lighter and sturdier than many others. Have a nice ride in the time to come and merry Christmas :-)

    @@m.u.m.s.8632 The bark busters hit the ground first so unless its uneven ground you typically wont have the plastics touching anything and if something is sticking up then bars might not help anyway. Having said that I put the givi bars on my tenere. They are small enough not to add too much weight and give me a good place to put my feet up when riding long distances. I'm actually going to get some forward pegs to enhance this aspect!

    I had an 09 660 for 5 yrs. Did a few modifications, flat seat, ditched the exhaust, larger footpegs, Kevs 02 mod & the best mod was a power commander. It made the engine performance great. Took fuel off the top end & pushed up low to mid range power. It'd walk up hills in a higher gear. Made DR650 owners cry 😉 The 02 Kev mod stopped the surging at constant revs on the open road 👍 The small tank on the new bike is 🐂💩 & will stop me from buying one. Had a Kle 500 with a 15L tank, disappointing range! Keep up the good work. Russ down under.😎👍

    Hi. Nice review. I too had a xt660z that I clocked up 116000 miles on. I'd still have it now but a car hit me from behind and wrote it off. I now have a 700 tenere and like you say the engine is the overriding difference between the two, the 700 pulls in gears so easily whereas the 660 would chug and demand a gear charge.

    Hi Pavlin, these tires are the reason for lose and wobbling. I changed mine for the nordkapptrip in June and the troubles vanished immediately... So don' t worry. The T7 is a superbike! Regards! Werner

    Many people have noticed that wobbling on the front, sometimes the front wheel was not correctly balanced with weights. I had not that issue actually, but it’s worth checking it out. Love the comparison of the two bikes, the Tenerè spirit is the same I think! Btw do you plan to install a better skid plate and side carter guards?

    Balance won't help at all. No, I do not plan to have guards and different skid plate for now.

    The decision move on from my Tenere to 500x was not easy but I have to be honest with myself. I am now a soft roader not off roader. With protection underneath it will easily cope with gentle trails and tracks with us both on board. I have plenty of pictures of Tenere travels too. That luggage rack is perfect for eliminating rear overhang. Good product costs. Like it. Happy travels

    Sure Tenere 700 means off road and hard of road. So if you not after Enduro there is no point to keep tenere. But 500x very low power 💪… .why not nc750x?

    @@olegyd I am a 90kph traveller. 48hp is plenty for this. We are both small, 72kg and 50kg, and pack light. Plus we hired one for a week and travelled around Greece on it. It was perfect for her. A good test. There is no need for more power for us. It will sit at 120kph if necessary but this is hardly ever. 👍

    Tenere travel , its not my business but i will tell you my point of view , you were better to choose the yamaha tracer 700 , its cheaper than the t7 and more road oriented and it last longer its a more durable and better machine than the cb500 . Yamaha makes the best engines in the world, look i know people who has the very old yamaha xj900 with more than 350 000 kms on it and the bike rides as new ahaha, yamaha engines last a very long time at least more than 600 000 kms or even a 1 million kilometers , but you have to have good care of the bike , good care of the engine at least. I am a mechanic i know what i am saying. Merry Christmas God and jesus bless us. 🤗

    Your old model is what made me get the T7 because they never had your old bike in the states. It made me realize what you could do with a motorcycle and not having to have a big motor to enjoy it.

    Excellent comparison. My Tenere had such a horrible front end wobble I had to stop riding it at 1500 kms. After much effort and denial by the Yamaha Dealer they put a new Pirelli on the front….wobble disappeared….I guess it’s human nature for people to be in denial until forced to see differently. Some dealers shouldn’t take things so personally and just fix the problems, especially on a new bike. Cheers and happy travels.

    Hello Pavlin, I have seen a lot of your video's. Can't explain it but somehow i like yours much more then those of other KZread travelers. Of course i have not made the distances you did but i have done my own. But never filmed it. I am not a person that would ever look at it again. Sometimes i have a dejavu moment and then i smile. This is enough for me. The only thing is that sometimes i think of certain people that i have met on my travels. And i would like to know how they are doing at the moment. Expeccially from my time in the Middle East. Because how they have to life with all those uncertanties is not ok. When the XT660Z came out the first thing i did was to go to my local dealer and placed an order. Midnight Black it was. I have had much fun with it. I do remember the feeling of my bikes on my travels. At the moment i am giving my brain overtime in thinking about wich decision i have to make for my next bike. I own a KTM 1190 R. It is heavy. But i like it so much. One of my best bikes in my life. I was thinking about buying the new CRF 300 Rally of the L with an aftermarkettank. And upgrading the suspension. My next trip will be Turkey and Iran. As soon if Iran gives out visa again. I want a light bike. With long intervals. When i am traveling i have no need for speed. 90 kph is fine for me. Experiencing the surroundings. But the T7 is also a great great bike. If i look to the crf you have to do some chances. Like the springs. The steer. The seat. They are very neccesery. But this will cost another 2000.00 euro's.And then you are going to the price of a T7. And with the T7 you have got overall better quality. But then i have also a heavy bike again. And then it would be better to sell my 1190r. The T7 will be much better for getting to Turkey. But it will be a bit more dangerous going offroad in the backcountry. Where i will be alone. And i want to go to places where people normally do not go. So tougher terrain. Probably to tough for the T7 ? And also picking it up will cost me a lot of energy. I have cursed at my 1190R, beleive me. Once took a 2.5 meter piece of wood with me and rope. So i could use a heavy rock as a counterweight to lift the bike back up. I know it sound silly but it will wear you down very quicly. They should invent some ball that you can fill with helium that you could attach to the bike so you can lift it up very easy. Helium in a compressed cilinder that you can stick in the luggage somewhere. And a 3 meter in diameter balloon.🙈 I have had a situation i almost gave up on picking the bike up. Could not do it anymore. Riding in the heat and crashing 3 times in 30 minutes. The T7 is lighter then my 1190. But still. It is a difficult decision i have to make. I am also getting older. The XT660Z with a full tank was also sometimes a struggle to get it back on its feet. I am extremely curious about your experiences with the T7 when going of tarmac and having to lift it up a few times. And what you thing about controlling it in the dirt. And when i get home from a boring day of work i like to watch your video's while eating. So lifting up the spirit for getting out there myself again. But i know that not long from now my age will get in the way. Started somewhere in early 1980'ties long distance traveling and as soon as the NX250 came out i bought one. I took it across whole Europe. Scared shittless i was on the German autobahn traveling at 80 kph while brutal mercedes slapt me with speeds above 200 kph.😬🙈 Somewhere in 1987 or 1988 ? Ride it a couple of years and heaving almost not money at all. Had to do jobs while traveling. Sometimes skipping meals. But still hold those memories dear. Meeting so much people who wanted to help. Offering me a place to sleep and when i was lucky invited me in for a meal. But back then i also saw poverty and how hard some people had to struggle. And how Russia was in the mind of people. Expeccially in Hungary and Romenia. The older people sometimes stayed away because of that from a travelar. Not trusting anyone. Only the people they knew very well. It is great that this has changed a lot. But i am wandering of off with my thoughts. Have great travels Pavlin and stay safe.     22:20 Change the tyres. I had the same problem with my XT1200, and changed my tyres to Metzeler Karoo, and that solved the problem with wobbling. Handlebars are super stable now

    On my V-Strom I had both M. karoo street and P. Rally STR, both had this wobbling issue. I also have the pirelli rally str on T7 now and it is again there. It has never been dangerous for me. It is annoying though. Proper tyre pressure can mitigate it. Balancing the tyre won't help much instead.

    Hi Pavlin , a few questions for you . Are you still planning on going to Magadan ? If so are you going to take the Road of Bones ( summer road or the newer road with newer bridges ?     Great video and best bike. I wanna tell you my story about tire wobbling and shaking.I have same model and now 6months old 20 000km.First 2000km str is ok.Then 60-80km they start shaking steering.and jumping bike.Yamaha change Metzeler karoo3..still same problem..Then i buy mitas e07 /new tubes and still same problem..always balance is ok and bead seat.pressures everything ok.. Problem was rim and spokes..tires off and adjust spokes..takes time but then mitas 10000km and now Motoz rallz front and adventure rear working fine.I am thinking that new bike spokes are loose..better adjust before do offroad and hit the pothole.Good luck for you and new tenere

    Howdy again, here is your favorite fan/critic commenting again. 1. How can you compare a 10-yr old bike to the brand new T700? It is not fair. Also as a new buyer, you are not unbiased. 2. Please use some blue loctite on your new 400euro rear rack. It will vibrate out of whack soon. Also buy a screw for the final rubber cushion. (I am glad you said it looked beautiful and not say it WORKS best. Time will tell.) 3. Happy to see you happy. Merry Xmas!

    Hello from Canada. I too could not believe the amount of noise coming from the stock tires. At 9000 kms I change the front to a TKC 80 - much better in every way. The stock rear tire made it to 18500 kms. It will be replaced by a TKC 80 also. The main complaint with my bike is the seat. It has that downward slope that put's my hips at a strange angle. Like sitting at the top of a teeter/totter and always sliding down - not good. I will modify it this winter. Other than that my 2021 T7 is a keeper, a great all around bike.

    @pavlin about the wobbly front tire, try and slightly lower tire pressure then recommended. I also had this problem with tkc80, inwe't from 2.1 to 1.9bar and the wobbling went away completely.

    I have a tenere and the stock tyres are great for me, I don't get any speed wobble at any speeds. I wonder if the tyres just need a few miles on them to bed them in? Bit of an odd one! Will you put Mitas 07's on there instead?

    The front vibration of the Pirelli is nothing compared to what I got after switching to a Motoz Rallz front. Now that I use the Dunlop Trailmax, I am very happy with my T7.

    Best tires for any motorcycle are Bridgestone or Michelin , they last longer are the strongest and are the best in any situation .

    Hi nice comparison but no competition. Suggest if you have wobbling front, crank your rear suspension preload adjuster. Seems you are heavier than the OEM intended 75 kg rider. The wobbling of the front in most cases has nthng to do with balancing resp. The tire itself. Cheers and sfe rides

    Would like to read your more detailed opinion on T7 suspension. It seems to me that you mastered shocks and forks on yamaha's. Well, in general suspension on XT660Z is ok, you made it better. And as it goes for T7 almost everyone are saying it's not so good, it's this, is that, it's not soaking small holes well or it's botoming too much. Then they are changing rear spring then fighting with settings on the front constantly and so on. Upgrades, I mean emulators and catridges are quite expensive.

    In 2021 I rode my Tenere over 8000 km and never had problems with a wobbling front wheel with the Pirelli Rally STR tire. Perhaps the front wheel should be better balanced?

    Good job on your videos. Very informative 👏. A more powerful milti-cylinder engine upgrade should make for a more spirited ride. It seems alot smoother & quicker compared to the thumper.     I'm 192 cm tall, 98 Kg and I got 10k Km on my T7. The bike is almost perfect with rally seat, I would say perfect with the comfort tall seat from Seat Concepts I bought a few months ago. I found the standard seat too low, you can use it but a taller seat is better imho. Be careful to not misjudge this bike, it's not a dual sport, even if it's the lightest in its category it's still a 200 Kg adventure bike 😉

    You might want to check the wheel bearings and races in the front. They may not be seated properly or other not true that may cause a wobble. It would make tire seem it was the problem. It will give you peace of mind, safety and keep you from being stranded in the middle of nowhere.

    Sell the old one mate. Once you move mistresses let the old one go and don’t go back. Let somebody else love it 😁 Was surprised that it was 16 v 22 litres. Quite a big difference. But as you say not really an issue - just means you have to stop slightly more frequently. You made a very good point: travel is important, not the motorcycle 😁👍🏻

    Good comparison Pavlin, new bikes do tend to feel much better than old bikes. A little TLC goes a long way to make old feel new again, freshen up the engine, get some compression back in the old girl is a good start, service the suspension, new oil makes a difference to ride Quality, new discs and pads plus change brake fluid gets the feel back. Sadly I think the 660 was way too heavy from the start, very much like the KLR 650 , for single cylinder bikes they were 30- 40 Kg heavier than need be so the Extra power of the T7 feels much better. This is only an opinion not facts, I only say this because if you think the T7 feels lighter than the 660 it got me wondering, my T7 feels like a massive heavy lump compared to my DR. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

    The rear feels better on old model only because you haven't changed the rear spring on the new one. I bet it feels very hard. This is only because your sag is too far off - you need to change the rear spring for a stiffer one. The difference is huge. It will no longer be as hard and thus the ride will be more comfortable. And the upgrade is crazy simple to do. Rally Raid sells a linear springs for the bike.. 100$ well spent. Feels like 500$ shock upgrade.

    @@motorcycleadventures Yes the old shocks on XT 660Z are like riding on a sofa even with stock springs :D On the new model, the stock shock is very rough if you weigh more than 90kg. Sag is one the most important thing on a motorcycle especially when loaded with a luggage. Inproper sag may lead to imbalance between front and rear height and cause motorcycle to not wanting to turn as quickly (apart from possible tank slappers). There's a lot of information about this. Basically "If you do not have the correct sag, the shocks will not work properly".

    @@psabak it's easy to set the sag just twist the adjustment knob. Im sure the T7 with full preload would be enough for Pavlins weight. It's probably got enough for 2 up after all.

    ​@@chrishart8548 Static/race sag without preload was 5/9 cm and with knob fully twisted 3/8 cm. It is just too much. Bike weighs 221kg fully tanked with 90kg rider fully geared. The shock is operating in the lower end of the progressive linkage system. That's why it feels hard. I know that feeling Pavlin had going through potholes. Clunky. Upgrade from 69N/mm to a 90N/mm rate spring made a night and day difference. Sag is spot on (2/6 cm). More plush going through holes, more stable in turns, easier to handle overall. Pillions up to 65kg are now allowed to hop on without sacrificing handling characteristics. The rear is just as high as riding single. If your sag is off and you are not able to set it right with stock spring, then it's a no-brainer not to upgrade such a basic thing. And on T7 it's super easy to do. Rear shock can be taken out in 5 minutes. I believe this is the single most important thing every motorcycle rider should check. Sure you can ride any bike in stock form, even take it to the race track. But why not to setup the bike so it performs better, is easier to handle and more fun to ride? Not mentioning safety. I sound like I'm trying to sell something 😅I'm really not..

    Нет! Если что случится после падения, я это исправлю и все. Если сломается, рано или поздно ето тоже можно, сварку будет. Не преживай так серизно!

    @@motorcycleadventures спасибо! Я очень обеспокоен был этим вопросом, потому что все об этом говорят. Но выхлоп вверх под сидение ставить не хочу. Мне это кажется не комфортным.
