If I am reading the parts diagram correctly, a hex bolt, a lock washer and a stopper plate, hold the pin in the idler gear, which holds the idler gear inside the crankcase

@@NatsNackersYard The lock washer and stopper plate look like they have been used on a few models, I put the part numbers into CMSNL to get a decent image of each part, they look easy enough to source used as well
fascinating watching you do that Nat - saw 40 minutes and thought it might drag but it flew by - nice!

Screaming at the screen Pull the fcukin pin out 😂😂😂 That pin should be flush, passing thru the housing, gear and into the other side

I tried but it didn't want to come out. A bit of a shove and I now have it flush!

@@NatsNackersYard maybe not being installed properly has caused a burr on the pin and/or the engine case. At least it’s in now

I don't know that engine, but I find it hard to believe that the idler gear shaft is not supposed to pass through and be supported on the inside as well. I suspect a burr may have formed on the shaft, or the inner mounting point, as a result of the gear running out of line, and this is stopping the shaft either going fully home, or pulling out.
