Great bike. Yamaha needs the bring to it to North America ASAP. It’s about time that more manufacturers realized that not every bike needs to have NASA level electronics and cost as much as the space shuttle.

The perfect bike for stepping up from a 250~400 single cyl dual sport. Never will be able to justify a KTM or BMW adv bike (price wise). I guess, we here in the US, will be watching a lot of Tenere 700 videos till 2021. Excellent review. Thx

Agreed. Didn't make sense to jump from a $2000 KLR to a $20,000 550lb Full Adventure bike. This, however, should fill a giant hole in the market.

The old Africa Twin did nothing best...but everything well... It wasn’t the fastest but it’s engine would pull you out of anything. The more I describe the old Africa Twin...the more it sounds like this 700 Ténéré! So the Ténéré is the new Africa Twin I was waiting for...

I could afford the 2019 Suzuki DR650 with money leftover for gear upgrades and whatever adventure comes to mind . I liked that it was lighter than the KLR and built a bit more for offroad stuff . It's my first motorcycle and I really really like it . Being a beginner rider I practice in my hometown doing the basics and getting to know what it likes and doesn't . Just swapped out the battery for a feather weight lithium battery changed the mirrors to Double Take ADV mirrors ( love those ) added Thumper Jockey pod lights ( took 2 hours of mostly where do I put the mounts and what position . Running the wiring harness was an adventure also ) . What a difference those lights make . Replaced the brake light with an LED light , safer and brighter . Got my Klim Badlands Pro pants , get the matching jacket next month . Swapped the seat out but I am not sure it's going to work like I wanted it to . The dealer recommended the Suzuki gel seat and what sold me was it lowered the height by about an inch . But the thing is too wide when I stand , it isn't tapered like the stock seat . Very uncomfortable . And those 6 bumpers are a bitch to change , my thumb still hates me . Didn't get a chance to test ride it yet since California decided to turn a million customers power off because of wind . Let me have a bean and cheese burrito and i'll give them some wind , idiots . Really like Yamaha's new bike . So what's the deal , we can't get one here in the states yet ? . As soon as one is available I want to take it for a test ride . Like to see if the added weight compared to my bike makes a big difference . Anyway great video and be safe out there .

This bike is sounding great to me so far. It's very minimalist which I think is a good thing, especially for advs which you should be ready to work on. A center stand would be cool, but I'm sure there will be an aftermarket one you can get. The only other thing I would like would be cruise control, but that's going away from the minimalist utilitarian design and I don't think it's possible anyway because it probably uses a throttle cable like the fz/mt07 which I have and love. One of those palm rest throttle sleeves would probably suffice. I don't care at all about traction control, not on a 70ish hp motorcycle.

Great review of a really good bike. However, your weight calculations need some re thinking, example there is no possible way that a wet KTM690 weighs 24kg more than a dry one (170kg v 146 kg), a litre of fuel weighs about 0.75 of a KG (depending on temp) and engine oil about 0.8KG. So 13.5 Litres of petrol weighs 10kg, 1.7 litres of oil weighs 1.36Kg. 3 litres of water weighs 3KG. Total about 14.36 KG at the outside, not 24 KG. In old money that is an error of more than 23 pounds! Now look at the other bikes quoted ! Not trying to be critical but unless you quote accurate weights just leave them out because otherwise it is pointless and missleading.

I heard in another video that the *Yamaha Tenere* - T700 falls / crashes noticeably more than other off road bikes in the same conditions. Something to check out if you are "seriously" planning on buying one. BUT... The 2020 Yamaha T700 (Tenere) is a good basic bike. *_I strongly suggest_* you avoid the temptations by the industry & dealers making their videos on the T700. Never, ever buy a brand new design i.e. 1.0. WAIT about two to three years for the: - fixes to the design bugs & issues - improvements/modernizations like on the Honda Africa Twin & now Adventure Sport version - aftermarket parts & accessories to be available - for other folks not wise enough to wait, to buy it and spend their money not yours Something to think about that I am sure the video maker agrees with.

Well said! That phrase irritates me to no end. "Entry level" is a term for people who think a bike must have at least 1000cc's to be considered a "real bike", and that's just ridiculous. I'll stick with my Honda CB500X Rally Raid any day of the week compared to a 550 or 600lb bike.

Price wise it is entry level. And that's a good thing because the things it's lacking (electronics) don't bring anything to the riding experience. The only thing 'missing' is cruise control. I wish more brands would bring 'entry level' bikes like the t700!

Yeah, 30kg lighter, by grand and a bit cheaper, durable, offroad capable while fairly sucking on road suspension and NO LONGER manufactured ..... BUT! 75hp/68nm vs 56hp/46nm ... that's what makes the difference in usability AND versatility. With my wife, we are enjoying our nakeds (Z900 and Street Triple 765R), but we would also like to make longer journeys to, let's say less civilized ends of our region (i.e. Europe, which represents eastern part of for this topic), and sports bikes don't cope well with roads there. So we are looking for bikes to load up for 2-3 weeks and be able to go reasonable fast pace onroad, easy in light off-road, and survive few kilometers here and there in mid off-road without having to lift up tons if things don't go that well. And at the same time, not paying fortune for "high-end" crossover enduro like Africa Twin or 'high-end" crossover tourer like BMW1250 or so. And that's where T700 comes just right in place. With DR650 you get a ton of offroad capability but really poor street, highway and twisties performance, with KLR650 you get weight and not gain much on top. T700 is the right answer for those needs - however I have to admit, that like 30-40kg decrease in weight would be perfect, but realistically not possible at this price point.

@@the_g371 You mean that just by looking at the bike or You drive one? Received Tenere week ago, made 1k this weekend, I must say they figured out the mass distribution pretty well even though it's not looking like that. @@the_g371 It all depends on the user, i love my 790 because of all the electronics. The ABS works incredible. I've got saved by it a few times already (emergency stops in the rain) and also by the traction control while being too enthousiastic on the throttle (again) in the rain. I'm a new rider since 8 months so forgive me for these mistakes but i'm glad i didnt need to learn it 'the hard way' like some people suggest (like being hospitalize is better..) When i ride with my gf as pillion i put in in rain mode and it's buttery smooth throttle response. Street mode is really wel balanced and the torque is so addictive. I don't get the issue with the rider modes really? Put in Rally mode and click on the rider mode u prefer, disable ABS and you can adjust traction control level on the go! Settings don't reset in rally mode.. I'm only 175 and can easily balance this bike even with the 880 seat height. No explanation needed for the suspension i guess.. I bought this bike for 12000 euro's. How is the T700 cheap??? i don't get it? I understand that alot of people don't need gadgets/electronics etc.. but. You get the best traction control and ABS on the market. TFT screen super easy controlable. Best suspension possible on a ADV bike. Superpowerfull engine with a 450km range. Tubeless wheels... I haven't ridden one before but seeing these reviews i'm sure it's an amazing bike to ride. I sat on one during a motorcycle fair and all components looked cheap. I think this motorcycle should be priced 8000Euro's that would be cheap.

The T700 has serious flaws. Only ABS on/off. Not possible to switch off only rear. Top-heavy. Lack of Ride-modes and TC is a matter of taste so that's not a flaw. Marketing says it's compact. 1590 mm wheel base. That's huge. Like a chopper. By the way. The weight of the 790 is 210 kg wet. Yamaha dry 187 kg 790 dry 189 kg. With the tanks low. It doesn't matter if tank is full or empty. Feels the same. The KTM is more expensive but worth it. 8500 km so far. Amazing bike.

My 950 has no abs, no ride modes, no tc. It isn't compact either... So I guess the bike is one big flaw! Yamaha nailed it, keep it simple and cheap so you can build your own off-road machine from a solid base. 13.5k for a new 790r... they're nuts in Austria.

chrisssinstockholm sure but is it 50% better?! Because that’s how much more a 790 will cost you and be real unless you’re Toby price you’re not pushing that 790. Hate all the Ktm comparisons with people that try to justify to themselves for overpaying for a motorcycle and not feeling dumb for it. Sure if money isn’t a thing 790 is better but I honestly like the looks of the 700 better but that’s subjective as far as off road goes i do have a Ktm 350 so no adventure bike will compete with that so for me why spend thousands more for a 790 that does a little better off road and likely isn’t as reliable (something not shown in specs) but let’s not argue Ktm vs Yamahas reliability and the added headaches of added tech (more things to go wrong) . In my opinion this is a bike that will get the job done and if you want better off road performance get a dirt bike
