Yamaha RX-V1067 HI/FI amplifier stand by power supply repair .

Ғылым және технология

A totally dead Yamaha hi fi amplifier with a shorted MOSFET on the stand by power supply board which should have been a straightforward repair, that was until the parts arrived !

You're an absolute wizard. I had a hifi and tv repair shop back in the 70s. You are where I'd like to have seen myself if I had remained in the trade. Very well done on your excellent videos :)

Lots of fake components about, it's a pain sometimes. But there are "good" fakes available, that are hard to spot, so like you I check them against an original when I can and check the gain or other electrical characteristics. A good video to highlight this growing problem. Sometimes there's no equivalent component available so you're forced to buy these dodgy uncertain parts and just test them as best you can to see if they make muster. It feels like a shrinking world sometimes. It used to be just the old kit that you couldn't get parts for, but nowadays even the modern stuff is full of unobtainable components. There's a movement I think in America called Right to Repair. I hope they make some progress and manufacturers start to produce kit with a view to making parts available to repair them. The cynic in me says that won't happen.

Manufactures bring this problem on there selves , if they were to supply parts in the the first place there would be no need to trawl the dodgy web looking to spares .

Excellent, as always. You did make me laugh when you said Radiospares. The diode resistor circuit connected to the MOSFET gate confused me initially (but that's not difficult these days).

I think the diode, resistor is to discharge the gate capacitance when the mosfet turns off, when RS first started off they sold parts for radio and TV sets, I still have mains droppers here that radio spares sold in the 70s, may even have an old catalogue somewhere.

@@jackgarrison8497 Maybe one day they were in the early years but now RS components is a mega supplier to industry , they are expensive but everything is top quality and account holders get next delivery, they are not for everyone as been an industrial supplier some components are supplied in packs of 10 , 50 , or even 100 but I don't mind that as I like to keep well stocked up with components as I do this job for a living .

It is getting harder to find genuine components these days, I had the same problems with an STK amp chip, finally found a good ex equipment replacement. I use a cheap USB microscope, certainly works well enough for my needs. Although I try to avoid surface mount stuff, I always end up getting more to repair.......

Yes I do have an account with Farnell as well, but with RS i get free delivery , with Farnell you have to spend over £40 to get free delivery , so who I buy from all depends on the size of the order.

@@michaeldranfield7140 Is RS in UK still giving free shipping regardless of the size of the order? Here in NZ, they recently changed their policy and now you have to spend at least $70 to get the free shipping. I think they were losing money with people placing lots of small orders on a regular basis. All of the RS supplied components to here have to be sent from Sydney, and from further afield including UK if Sydney don't have them in stock.

Hi was watching your video on making a solid state el84 valve. Reason being valve shortage due to the Russia and rest of world disagreements. Just wondering if it’s feasible to replace my el84 power amps for home made solid state? I assume I would need to replace them all because they need to be matched, but I wouldn’t have a clue on that.

Problem at the moment its been impossible to get buyers into Shenzhen since late 2019 to check anything due to Covid regulations. Even Chinese nationals have a 21 day isolation. Your relying on local buyers and people already there. However turnover of people means every year its natural for 20 of people to return home and cannot be replaced so you lose 20% of your buyers existing contacts.
