These bikes were almost mythical back in the day - you heard them mentioned with reverence between bikers, you may have even seen one occasionally but it was always owned and ridden by someone you didn’t know! Almost the pinnacle of 2 stroke road performance back then ……….. gorgeous bike

I would drain the Tank, and put it in my Living Room! Then you'd have something to talk about when you're friends come over for a Beer! Love it.

Super gepflegt !!! Wenn ich den Sound höhre bekomme ich Gänsehaut. Hatte auch eine von 1987 bis 1996 2 Takter fahren ist schöner als fliegen. Leider aber auch sehr kostenintensiv heute Bei mir war nach 200 Km der Tank leer. Aber es machte einen riesen Spass. Viel Freunde noch mit deiner RD

habe geschwankt damals, es wurde dann doch die RG500 :)

March'19, no bike Kawasaki, for 27 years, no Kawasaki shop near, thinking maybe get a RD250 LC, 350, or if the Planets lined up ?, Healthy RD500LC. Turned down a 07 CBR600RR, sight unseen, opted for a 05 GSF 650 inj. . Wow 58, 59 times more biking joy than in 84, my nearly new Kawa.750 turbo, and it was SUPERB, just not Bandit Time. RD's Nice.

I still have one and a friend of mine had a 500. We would swap bikes in rides sometimes when it was time to switch back I had a tear in my eye. When he sold it I should have bought it.

A good friend of mine got the first one to be brought into Ireland, he called straight to my door and took me for a spin, what a machine.

The red paint reminds me of an RG500! Not a bad thing atall! Sweet.

A stunningly beautiful example of the breed! A long time friend of mine, here in the U.S. owns the same model, but in the white with red livery. It was imported from Canada. He also has an RZ 350, purchased new by him, in the yellow and black livery! Your black and red is superb, please enjoy it. It is about the most beautiful one I have seen since they were new!

I bought a RD400 f. 1979. My nephew took it for a ride down the road, it had 3680 on the clock. My nephew seized it then as he was a mechanic he striped it. And year's later offered me £400 for it. I didn't sell it to that scumbag. But it never went back together. I should have never let him near it he always was jealous.

@@philipbooth7779 That sucks to read :/ Sorry for you. I've had the opposite thing happen, kind of. My dad had a '77 DT250 that I grew up on, rode with him sitting on the tank before I could walk basically. When I finally had my moped license (not enough to ride a 250 legally here) he allowed me to ride it to a friends house and I asked him like 5 times if there was enough oil in the tank or if I should top it up as it wasn't ridden regularly. He insisted it was fine, probably full, just did it etc., almost pressuring me not to check. The bike felt better and livelier than ever that day. She ran like mad but I didn't recognize the warning. When I was almost at my friends house, doing ~120kph @ 7k rpm in a sweeping left hand turn the engine died and locked the rear in an instant. Luckily I already was a decent rider back then, pulled the clutch instinctively, didn't highside and just coasted to a stop, trying to go down the gears but failing. The kick-starter was locked in place, no chance moving it, nor getting the gearbox out of 5th. I pushed the bike with the clutch pulled in the rest of the way to my friends house. When I arrived I pulled the spark plug and poured a beer bottle cap's worth of chain saw oil into the cylinder, freeing the piston again. I refilled the oil tank some using said chain saw oil and managed to ride it home again later that night. The bike soldiered on refusing to die but it ran noticeably worse than normal after that. Eventually I completely rebuilt the engine from the ground up, split crankcase, new main bearings, seals, had the cylinder bored & honed, installed a new OEM oversized piston set.. the whole 9 yards. My dad paid for parts and I learned how to build a 2 stroke engine. He gave me the bike as a gift on my 18th birthday (the legal age to ride it here). I still have it sitting under a tarp in the barn but the oil pump began to leak more and more (probably part of the reason the tank was dry back then too) so nowadays I have to re-prime the pump or make some premix when I want to start it. Haven't ridden it in forever sadly, but at least she still lives.

You’re so lucky. I had a few Yamaha RD250 and 350 LCs and the 350 YPVS version. I couldn’t afford the 500. 😊

This is a European colour option i think, we got them as RZ500s here in New Zealand with the classic white and red with Yamaha speed blocks and gold wheels. The Japan only RZV500 came with an alloy frame that the rest of the world never got.

@@paulklingler2620 You just need to take a look at the 2T Oil Mixer, I think it's a little too smokey but that could be because it's Cold, but it's good to look at the mixer because it can be too open and it has to be at the minimum! I had 3 RD350, my dream was this one... Congratulations on the Fantastic RD500, It was made in honor of King Kenny...
