Yamaha RD500 Aircooled - Mental Build & sound! One off hand built by Kelvin Bonarski
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Welcome to another truly special build by Kelvin Bonarski, following the much loved Yambretta RD350 Kelvin returns to show us his next latest master piece!
Let me know in the comments if you would like to see a sequel with an onboard ride with Kelvin!
Sadly with a leaking fuel tap (of all the things that could fail it would have to be something simple) this prevented any more footage on the day.
A big thanks to Kelvin for bringing it down to show off

I have to say … the Millyard is one of my hero with his engineering ability. I got my inspiration for building the RD500 from watching him on his channel …. I learned very quickly that it’s not as easy as he makes it look …👍👍

This is truly a thing of beauty. A masterpiece! Brought back wonderful memories of my 100cc, 125cc, 250cc and 350cc air-cooled 2-stroke Yamaha twins in the 1970s - but they were nothing like this!

I want , too job and beautiful bike I Nearly bought 500 lc Last year But couldn’t spend £20 to 30k On a bike you would be to scared to take out the garage and get dirty Bought a Ktm 1290 beast instead At least I can afford to fix the beast if I drop it
Simply beautiful I had a 75 rd 350 and a 77 rd400. Loved those bikes. Long live two strokes!!!
What an incredible bike! Always loved the yellow and black paint scheme. That RD 250 was awesome too. Had a '72 DS7 250 back in the day, the RDs came out in '73.
I saw this bike in the flesh today. It is so perfect, I didn't even clock that it wasn't a standard LC at first. Amazing engineering.

Amazing solution to keeping the chain aligned with the rear wheel on the 500. That's a pretty trick 250 as well.
First time I heard of someone looking at what Allen Millyard does and thinks “Yeah, I could do that” and then do it! It’s not just the engineering achievement, it’s making it look like it came out of the factory! It looks amazing!

Very cool. I love to see guys building radical two stroke bikes again. Imagine what two strokes would be today if the big manufacturers hadnt stopped building 2 stroke street bikes. A big thumbs up to all you geniuses out there creating these 2 stroke animals. ❤ Keep at it please.

I am so please you liked the bike … it was a lot of hard work but really satisfying to ride now although I am still running her in 👍👍
The RD Yamahas from the 350 on up are a riding experience that I think every street bike rider should be able to have. I once rode an RD400 around quite a bit, and it both scared the shite out of me, and thrilled me at the same time. I loved it. I could pull wheelies with it effortlessly. They are badass and I can also see why a lot of guys raced them, and also wrecked them. I also got to ride an ATC with a specially make frame that held an RD350 engine that was built up for even higher performance, chambers etc. than stock. It was insanely fast, hard to control, and some of the funnest riding I've ever been able to do.
absolutely fantastic workmanship ! great sounding too . Cant wait to see if some heavy box tubing swing arm will allow the engine to reach its full HP !
Sounds wicked 🎶💨💨
that shot at the end with the scooter explains where the original RD350LC motor went.

Wonderful craft, superb.
What a fantastic bike! Great job.
That is a masterful job you did to create a inline 4 cylinder out of RD cases. The bike is simply gorgeous! I had a DS7 RD 350 and a RD 400. The 400 was tricked out with everything and completely stripped down, it was fast and explosive. Topping out 6th gear for more than 20 seconds would blow holes in the pistons. I should have put larger carbs on it so the engine could breath better. I injured my back and had to get off them but I will never forget the fun I had on them.

Loved 2 strokes since the first day I heard one. Like a hive of angry bees. And the pull when you're in the power band, on the pipe...just can't get that from a 4 stroke, unless it's substantially bigger. And you can't forget the unmistakable smell of 2 stroke oil in the air.As far as matching them up CC to CC, 2 strokes win every time. Fun factor: 11
amazing bike, my friend just built a 700cc dragster with two RZ350 engines welded together like this one. got to love the two stroke

Very nice mate , cheers 👍
First bike was RD250LC, hit 170kph going to rego office to pick up my newly acquired licence, loved it.
My friend mark crisp and my brother put together a four cylinder bike together using the standard LC chassis with twin disc forks and four 250 LC barrels on using two rd crankcase’s + cranks rebuilt by Dave East from Leicestershire built the cranks assemblies and Mark crisp and my brother had the crankcases welded up using a big steel bar to stop any warping the project was on the front cover of motorcycle mechanic in the 1980s and the full right up in side the same magazine. It’s good to see a fantastic job keep up the good work many thanks Colin Suffolk .

Beautiful Build . I was not able to tell for SURE , but I think he made a 90degree (90/180/90) crankshaft . ? Not in Pairs , separate firing for all 4 . If that's the case , two separate RDLC or RZ igniters , set 90 deg apart on a common backing plate , with uprated twin lead Coils might have worked .
Perfect sound.
The greatest bike Yamaha never made. And if that were a genuine P reg bike, then would have been the perfect time to launch it
I'm a former owner, (my favourite bike was a Daytona Special, I put an RZ350 motor in) Just dropped a fair amount of cash on a 77 model. I have NEVER seen a RD with stock pipes, AND a stock air box. Yes, pulled the air cleaner out, and ALMOST asked what this is. Now, a LOT of work to do.
