The ZX 4 is an enthusiasts bike. Someone who likes high reving keep it on the boil riding style. It's a nich-rider kind of bike.

@@Elias_g1having something you can rev out like that is actually a lot of fun. Reminds me of the GT86/FRS/BRZ, great fun little cars that you can fully rev out and use all 10/10 of the car on the road. I had a 2016 FRS and it’s been my favorite car, and I’ve owned over 30 new cars. My 750i which I have delimited, get me to jail speed in 5 seconds. So definitely see the point of having something to rev out and fully learn to enjoy. Also I doubt you’ll be as quick to dump it for something more powerful. I really think this bike is what a lot of 30 year old new riders are looking for.

@@JamesCook76131I really love your take on this. Personally its still a tough choice between the two. I love the high revving character of an inline 4, similar to something like a K20A or a K24. But im always reminded of how fun torque can be and since i have a RAM V8, and how addictive it can get, not to mention the convenience of having instant torque at low rpms in dire situations. Its a pretty tough choice

@@dancinglizard3080for sure, I have a 250cc inline four and used to have a 1000cc vtwin and they both put a smile (grin) on my face all the time. On the 250 when its screaming at 18000rpm is just so fun but you're still within speed limits. Where as the big twin, oh man, the low end punch is just so brutal haha gets your heart and adrenaline pumping.

I got an R7 after having a ninja 400 for a month and the extra torque is definitely noticeable and having the huge back tire makes highway speeds feel more stable. Cornering also felt amazing and intuitive in the more aggressive sitting position compared to the ninja. Plus If you don’t look back at your bike after parking you bought the wrong bike and I stare at mine every damn time.

I chose and own a ZX4RR (apparently the first in Australia was a fun brag for a small window of time), replacing my Ninja 400 as a daily, Australian delivered bikes are the full 78 or so HP, The Ninja 400 was a brilliant bike , I wanted something similar yet more in every area as a daily, the R7 was to aggressive of a riding position comparatively for my liking aaaaand quite a few years old at this point, I didn't want to buy something that at a guess was due to be updated at any moment. plus the absurdity of the noise that comes from the ZX4RR on song at speeds that won't immediately have you go straight to jail is addictive. We live in brilliant times, no matter if you choose from team green or blue you're going to have a great time.

I had looked at R7 but riding position too aggressive for everyday use comfortably and it seemed like a bike with a pile off bits bolted to it and it has the engine we need not what we want. The ZX4RR is very integrated everything things fits perfectly, much better finish than the yamaha and higher level off kit. I had to buy without a ride, that was scary, $14,800 ride away. The ride home 80 Km freeway and city traffic filtering then freeway. Wow so much fun, so light so stable what a sound. Just made 1,230km first service today $357 So happy with my buy its a stunning motorcycle

Long time watcher first time commenter. The reason why I am picking the ZX-4RR over anything else right now is because of how unique it is. I like engineering, I like unique things, I love outlier cases that were above everything else in a class. I remember stumbling onto the 90's 4 cylinder 250 from kawi and seeing videos on it, the history, track record, etc and falling in love with it. When I found out they were doing another one, got super hyped, then disappointed when it was only in I think Malaysia release (for emissions reasons). When I got wind of this 400cc for global release I got excited again to have a bike in that category. I have a lot of experience in a lot of other worlds and am usually the go to guy my friends seek out when they are making a first purchase and I use a concept of "because I can land" whenever I can't talk someone out of a bad purchase. Everyone wants to be in "because I can land" you don't have to worry about cost, sensibility, better options, more affordable options, the wife yelling at you, etc you just get the thing. Sometimes you just really want it not because it makes sense but because you can. The moment I realize that we are in "because I can land" it's hands off the "ground them in reality" arguments and "alright, lets go shopping" and I wish more people would understand that. At the end of the day I am trying to help my friends make an informed decision and I don't control their money, I understand and appreciate the content space. You exist to help people make the most informed decision they possibly can but everyone outside of that space would just accept that people are gonna spend the money on what they like and not get so mad that someone else's purchase doesn't make sense to them.

Oh they are a thing of beauty and uniquness. Also shows what the brand is willing to do, to take a different approach with all the strict emissions law, cost, RnD and if its profitable. If its something you'd like I say go for it, they do usually cost a bit more but that's just how it is with the extra cylinders and to cover the cost of research. I used to have a CB400 and it was such a good all rounder bike. 400cc inline four, you'd think it would lack torque but there's plenty there to use and a smooth running engine. Sounds nicer than your typical ptwin except them cp2 haha they're barky af I love that.

I went with the zx4rr. I love it. Years back, I had a gsx-r 600, then graduated to gsx-r 1000. Afterward I bought a cruiser. Love my cruiser but had the ich to get back on a supersport. We all know, you can’t use the power of a 600 on the street. So the zx4rr was the obvious choice for me, not just cause of the sound, but because of the useabilty of the power and it revs to 16k! In terms of price, you’re still around about $11k out the door for either one, so at that point it was more about the experience. I will get an r7 at some point though

I'd 100% pick the ZX4RR, I've seen and ridden R7's they just seem cheap, and they just don't sound as nice, regardless of 'power' its not a super sport or a 1000cc so you cant really rank the 2 bikes as a 'performance' bikes, I had a ZX2R 250cc 20k/rpm which had tuned carbs to a similar power as the ZX4rr, I'm surprised he didnt mention any remapping figures for the ZX4RR as well... another thing I noticed when I looked at a R7 is that the seats are cheap just foam with a wrap over it... prone to ripping or soaking in water if it gets wet.. me being 6'4" the R7 was not comfortable at all to sit on, where the ZX is a nice leather. I personally ride a 2022 CBR650R not too aggressive, decent power for everyday riding and has 'enough basic features to stay safe and have fun (stability control, traction control and a adjustable rear shock adjustable foot pegs and optional quick shift addons)

I was going to say, toss the Aprilia RS660 into this comparison. But then I realize it's about $1900 more expensive than the ZX-4RR, at $11,499. I've seen the Yamaha CP2 engine tuned to around 88 wheel horsepower and 53 ft-lb. But that's a lot of work. It's full exhaust, it's airbox removal (Hordpower intake kit), it's high comp pistons, porting, intake cam, ECU flash. But I would say it's a mild workover, nothing entirely crazy or unreliable. I think it's my favorite class of "racing bikes", the 650-690 twins class that's had a good amount of work done to them. They sound cool, they have solid power, they can move out quickly to at least 135-140 mph tops. They tend to be more serious than the 400cc class, but not the craziness of a 600cc supersport.

If you wanted to get into track days and racing, I'm thinking the R7 would probably be the better choice. Besides the greater availability of mods, there are (I think...Yam, you might know more though) more Twins Cup-style races for the R7 than the ZX4. That being said, for just pure fun, screaming around is always nice on the track too ;)

Funny, I think for someone getting into track days the zx4 is the better choice. Tracks are about corner speed and corner entry/exit speeds when you don't have an excess of power, which the zx400 will be much superior to the R7 with some simple mods. It's a bit like comparing 250 2strokes (high revving) to 400 4strokes where the 250s would dominate. Now were comparing 400 4 cylinders (high revving) against 700 2 cylinders. It becomes more a question of bike weight than outright power and delivery.

@@stevecade857Oof. You clearly don't understand what's going on here. The R7 has larger wheels and tires giving it more available traction for corner speed. It also has A LOT more torque that is going to allow it to pull much much stronger out of corners. Rider skills being equal, the R7 will thoroughly dominate a 4rr on the track. The 4rr has no advantage. Anywhere. On the track, the R7 is in another class and not even a fair comparison.

For collection? Zx4rr because i know that bike is gonna be rare someday, its a niche item so demand is pretty low. But which bike is gonna age better? Well in my point of view it'll be the r7 because of parts availability. I have collected rare bikes and cars and the one problem that pains me the most is parts. I'd like to enjoy them a bit more but i am always worried that i might break something and it'll be a pain in the ass to find parts. R7 shares an engine with 3 other models so parts are gonna be abundant. The thing that made toyota corolla so successful even till this day is parts availability. You can still find parts for a 90's corolla. Hell a friend of mine still dailies his 91 with almost a million miles.

I went with a 2024 black ZX4RR. I loved what the bike was for but did not want or like the KRT version. I've been riding for a lil less than a year and will share that a bike selection is an emotional one. It has to speak to you! My 1st bike that I still own and bought June 2023 is a Ninja 400. A few months later I added my 2024 Robotic White ZX6R.... and now my new ZX4RR. The US version bike is horribly neutered but a tune, headers/exhaust and DNA air filter literally transforms it into a whole nother animal! Each of my bikes have very VERY different riding styles. The N400 Is extremely tossable and forgiving while great fun to ride, the ZX4RR is a banshee with that tiny inline 4 that begs you to caress her, wring her out, and the ZX6R... well you gotta understand the term "don't ride faster than your guardian angel can fly". All of my bikes are full bolt ons and tuned because it's just how I like it. I leave nothing stop more than a few hours of bringing it home. Seriously. Anyway I wouldn't have bought anything over the ZX4RR as I too like unique things. Besides... did I share just how addicting an inline 4 sound is??? Whatever you bring home, enjoy the ride. Ride often & ride safe. Ride what speaks to you!

Power is only 15bhp less and torque 2.5 Nm, but both at lower RPM. Still more than enough power to have fun without breaking your back. However, I wish they didn’t splash those graphics all over the bike. I remember when the 250 was redesigned, they came in just plain green with no graphics other than a Kawasaki logo. They looked great. That and get rid of the rear fender and the stock pipe for a decent slip on. That would be my dream bike right now. Maybe in a year or two the price will come down towards the MSRP.
