    Dude if you're going to do this can you throw in something like a 675 or 848? It would be good to see how the larger capacity goes on more focussed bikes. Same with a more lazy 4cyl like a CBR 650 or something.

    I’d argue that anything with less than ~130bhp is never going to be “overkill” for the road. A Panigale V4?? For sure, but anything where you are really going to struggle to light up the rear tyres without TC engaged? Nah. This was supposed to be a video on “Best SPORTS bike”, not “Best Sports Tourer”. With these 3 choices, there is nothing close. I have a Street Triple 765 RS (naked) that will embarrass everything here except the R6. If you want to tour, get a touring bike. If you want a lunatic, fun, SPORTSbike, grab an R6. Or get a naked and actually learn how to ride. As for the R6 not being a great “first” motorcycle, my first bike was a K6 GSXR-1000. Any bike is only ever as stupid as the rider. I never intended to buy a K6 but it was (and still is), in my opinion, the best ever mass-produced superbike on the planet. No TC, no cat, titanium full system basically as standard and (legend has it) it’s the bike that BMW aped to create the S1000RR. Except they (in typical BMW style) managed to leave out all of the “personality” of the engine.

    It demonstrated the most likely scenario a street rider would be in, and it showed the R6's weak point. If you want the best out of the R6, you gotta keep the revs in the upper third of its range, which isn't practical for most street riding situations.

  • @Cptjonmiller

    @Cptjonmiller

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@willardivins3736 I don't live in the states, so pardon my lack of knowledge; by streets do you mean areas where there are traffic lights and you come to a stop every now and then? If that's the case, the way I ride, is completely opposite of what you stated. If I'm travelling at 40mph on the streets, I would keep it in gear 3, or high revs. If I need even more power, all I need to do is downshift. Only when I get on the expressway or freeway, then I upshift to lower revs to cruise more efficiently. As for the video, it still doesn't make sense to start accelerating at gear 4. A seasoned rider would know that if he needs to accelerate quickly and he isn't at the optimal gear, he would downshift (such as from 4 to 3), which wouldn't even take a second.

    @@Cptjonmiller you are 100% correct. I think the makers of the video are coming from the standpoint of a new rider. Exactly, ones a traditional parallel twin, ones a 270 parallel twin that can rev a little higher, and ones a 4 cylinder. To the untrained, they're all in the same 600cc class. But in the real world, day to day commute I'd have the Kawasaki. Fun on weekends with some track, Aprilia. Track only, R6. Depends on where and how you ride. 3 days and 700km with the RS 660, second bike after mt 07 - amazing looks, it has 2 sweet RPM spots - 5k - 8.5k, easily maneuvrable at around 3k-4k RPM, the quickshifter is great, the cruise control allows you to go kilometers by just balancing your body using no hands on the handle which is cool, if you're the type of rider that doesnt wait for the traffic you just edit the Individual Mode (next to Commute and Dynamic) for you bike and leave it that way, then there's the race tab with lap timer, it has a wider 180 wheel which means more lean, stability is great, bike feels planted, 3 headlight modes (LED runing lights, meeting/short light, full beam). Since it's new, I didn't force it above 220 km/h, which it reached pretty easily. 0-150kmh is few taps of the quickshifter, you won't even notice the difference between high RPM bikes, it makes up on it before they get to 12k RPM, and it's much better for overtaking on commuting roads at 4k rpm. I did sit on CBR600RR, which had a nice feeling to it aswell but it was less maneuvrable, and on a 650 Ninja, which felt like a naked bike based on your position, has a very cut tank, not comfortable for long time speeds. tl:dr - RS660 is great

    @@razvanzav9341 That's kinda the point... I will never ever purchase a motorcycle that doesn't scare me. This thing didn't. At all. I couldn't give the slightest shit about a top speed... How often are you using the top speed on (as you call it) "a road-orientated bike"? A 10-year-old R6 would absolutely eat this for breakfast on road or track but that's not the point - I understand that they are not comparable motorcycles but... It's how you get there (acceleration, handling, etc.) that counts and, having test ridden the RS660 for 3.5 hours, it wasn't anywhere near as exciting as I was hoping. I've always desperately wanted an RSV4 and, while I obviously realise it's not going to be THAT, I was expecting it to be a lot more of an exciting ride. I have a Street Triple 765 RS that is a shitload more exciting than that RS660, plus cheaper and more comfortable. And a K6 GSX-R1000 but I won't start comparing that because, in my opinion, that's one of the best road-going superbikes ever made. The absolute dealbreaker for me with that RS600 is the handlebar setup. It's AWFUL. I literally have no idea why they came up with that solution! What are your opinions on that? Wouldn't you prefer a standard clip-on system. It's not like you can't get raised clip-ons... I don't get it.

    I honestly listed it for sale at some point and started looking for a 2012 gsxr750, than I had such a sweet ride on the RS660, I decided keeping it for one more season. I havent ridden any R6 but one, around town, for like 10 mins, quick swap of bikes, so I didnt feel its power but strong throttles here and there. I'm 1.83, the handlebars are fine, or perhaps I dont know what better means yet. Drove it over 600km in a day, It feels a lot like holding urself into ur triceps when not crouched under the windshield, but I dont mind, as a gym veteran, I actually find it like a little wokout that I enjoy. I like the fact that it is really responsive at any rpm and it just goes when u gas it. I do a 35km road back and forth on a daily almost, sort of a circuit looking setup, fastest I did it was 15 min, but I can pick a minute or two faster now, around 140kmh average, which is what the romanian pros pull on the circuit. The point is, I feel the bike can be as fast as any high rpm crotch rocket on twisties, unless you are comparing top speed, which it lacks. 0-160 around 0.5 less than a r6, do you really feel that the difference goes in favor of the Yamaha, for a street daily bike?

    @@razvanzav9341 I'm genuinely glad you love it mate and that's the important thing. I guess I just didn't fall in love with it (and I was REALLY expecting to). My issue with the handlebars is that, as far as I can tell, they look pretty un-adjustable. Am I wrong? You can always make fiddly little changes to regular clip-ons but these things look pretty set in stone and are more of a "touring" position, which I don't love on a bike like that. Anyway dude, I'm glad you love it - it'd be pretty boring if everyone loved the same motorcycles. I've got a Hypermotard SP on order for July and I can't wait. I usually hate Ducatis but that model ticks everything I want in a bike: 1) Utterly impractical 2) Fun fun fun and 3) Utterly terrifying. Haha. If you've never swung your leg over one and you have a Ducati dealership nearby, I strongly suggest to wait for a sunny day and give one a blast. I went in with the intention to order the Panigale V2 but 5 mins on that Hypermotard and I was grinning like an idiot. It's almost impossible to keep the front wheel on the floor!! Haha. @Unai_79 It's not an acceleration test, it's a roll-on test. The whole point of a roll-on test is to show how much torque an engine produces in the midrange. The R6 is notoriously gutless in the midrange, and that's partly why they did this test; to show how the other bikes have more midrange grunt than the R6. Of course if they started the bikes from a stop and allowed the R6 to immediately wind up to 12k RPM, it'll accelerate faster than the other bikes, but for real world riding, that kind of test is completely irrelevant.

    I think the one thing that is rarely touched on enough is the engine types and how they make their power.. parallel twin 650 is going to be different than a v-twin or an inline 4 that also had 650cc. But i guess thats more of an advanced conversation bcus you have to bring in things like compression, bore & stroke, cam timing, gearing and also tuning to get the big picture

    It’s also personal choice when it comes to that sort of thing… I know they are more difficult to ride (at least on the road) but I MUCH prefer a motorcycle with a more pronounced “power band”. It probably comes from a childhood of riding 2-stroke motocross bikes but I “personally” HATE bikes with loads of torque down low. If a motorcycle allows you to be “lazy”, then invariably you will be. I’d rather sling my leg over a bike that makes you work for it, with ALL the power over 8k but aaaaaall in one digraceful, smile-inducing lump. I don’t want to be able to pull away in 4th thanks.

    It's a shame you didn't have the CBR650R with you. 4 cylinders with the seating position between the RS 660 / Ninja 650 and almost as much horsepower as the RS. No riding modes, just traction control and a divine sound ;-) I would see the bike between the RS and the R6 and I'll buy that CBR650R too :-)) But still a nice test that confirmed my opinion! Thank you friends ;-) Greetings from Germany

    When I decided I was going to buy my first motorcycle about 2 years ago, I knew I wanted to get a fully faired sport bike. As I began to look at my options I quickly learned that my choices were either a 600 class supersport beast or something a lot less powerful in the 300 cc to 650 cc range. I eventually decided on a Ninja 400 which I loved and rode for 2 years and over 18,000 miles. I recently upgraded to a Ninja ZX-6R. I always wondered why none of the big 4 motorcycle manufacturers had produced a bike that combined the best of both worlds. A comfortable, fully faired sport bike ( like the Ninja 400 or 650 ) with the power of a supersport. Looks like Aprilia has done just that with the RS 660.

    the RS 660 is a middleweight, the zx6r is a race bike with a little more mid end power, and more comfortable ergos. Not the same thing. The zx6r is definitely in class with the r6 gsxr cbr600 etc. Being slightly more comfortable, doesn't make it more tame like you said. I don't think those things make the zx6r any easier to ride, but definitely more bearable.

    Absolutely great review there lads and lass!👍🏻My money would be on the new RS660 as being a good all rounder and I can guess that would include the track (RS660 Factory in the pipeline?) The kawasaki would be better off in a head to head with honda's similar 2 pot model. A track test comparison between the Aprilia and Yamaha could show how damned good that little RS660 really is and I would not be surprised if it at the very least equalled the R6 (Factory in the pipeline version though).
