Yamaha PW50 rebuild- clutch springs, steering stem, plastics

I bought an old beat up PW50 and gave it a basic overhaul. Disassembled, cleaned/painted, serviced clutch, rebuilt steering stem, replaced plastics and decals. I haven’t touched the motor yet, but I’ll likely put a top end kit on it soon. My 5 year old had a good Christmas!

Solid man. My boys just locked up yesterday after making this clicking noise. I let it sit over night then a few light pushes everything freed up again and had perfect compression. I just did a top end and noticed the noise before. Check everything all was good no play with bottom end in and out. Buddy of mine said it's definitely the clutch.

Cleaned up nice. I've got the same motor on my 1980 lc50g Champ. Street legal moped. Simplicity. ✌️

Nice work! We just replaced the plastic on ours and ran in to the same issues.

Thank you. I want another beater just for the fun of tearing it down and rebuilding it. That, and I’ve got 4 boys that will be riding soon!

Why is my grandsons PW50 acting like the clutch is slipping when starting off or going up a hill?

Are you positive it’s the clutch slipping and not the motor bogging? These carbs get plugged really easily. If you’re sure it’s a slipping clutch you’ll probably have to pull the motor so that you can remove the clutch cover to inspect the clutch pads and drum. They’re pretty simple centrifugal clutches, so the problem should be obvious once you get it apart. No adjustment, just some friction pads that grab a drum. Also, did you check the case oil?
