Why you need to upgrade the steering stem bearings on the Yamaha PW50 and how to do it

The steering stem bearing race on the Yamaha PW50 is definitely a weak link on the bike. Even before you hit the motocross track (if you ever do), it's more than likely that the lower upper bearing race on the steering stem bearing assembly will be split. While it won't fall apart while riding, it will cause a fair amount of slop and play in the handlebars. Not something your kid is likely to be effected by, but something you'll observe as a parent concerned for the safety of your child.
The process of changing them out is a pain, so you'll only want to do this once. This is why I chose to upgrade the bearing assembly to the Pro Flo Sealed Bearing system, having replaced these with the All Balls OEM replacement option once before and having it crack on the first ride...

dam buddy you're kid Is growing up quick! I found you doing research for stacyc. on your battery video. I got my 3 year old a pw50! I look forward going through your content! I have no motorcycle experience and my kid doesn't reach the ground so honestly I'm scared of him tipping over on it 😅 I also live in the city so it's hard to find a space close by for him to practice. wish you and your family the best.

Awesome! My 2 1/2 has been riding on his and loves it. I built centered training Wheels. You can build them or buy them as a kit for around $100. Also I’d recommend a 1/8 or 1/4 easy turn throttle tube. I changed the clutch springs out too. It was taking way too long to get going. Supposedly they call for replacing the springs every 10-15 hours. Much easier for him to ride now with his small wrists.

Did you ever hear of Marshin pit bikes that's what I have I just got it and I can't find nothing online about them the motor however looks exactly like the pw80 so when I order parts I just my pw80 stuff and it works so far the steering stem in mine has a ton of play when I took it a part it looks slightly different from your and it didn't have the top bearing or race it's very odd and needs to be fixed

OK, For the bottom race... I just used a small sanding drum in a Dremel tool and and opened the inside of the race a bit. It still fits tight and without any movement, but only needed to be lightly tapped into place. I also put extra grease on the bearings when I installed them...
