The MT 125 is one of the fastest 125's on the market 70+mph is no problem even stock, that's why they are also one of the most expensive 125's on the market, the 17k miles is also a good example of it's quality, The rust was on an aftermarket tail tidy not a yamaha part, great post

@@zen.life66 im 6ft and 13 stone, i wouldnt say it is uncomfortable but you will want to make adjustments. I added a gel padded seat that has raised my butt a further inch from the pegs. i then bought adjustable pegs (just pegs) and set them to accomodate my height. if you know what your doing you can make it really comfortable.

Bought mine in july new after my Zontes 125-u1 decided to not move after 8 months use, (bloody Chinese bikes)! Absolutely love it!!! just had my second service 3800 miles later and no issues. Went up the A38 the other day and got over 70 no problem. Has made me really want to do my full license which hopefully will get done this year. Awesome bike!

@@GillyBikes it's very nippy for a 125, and getting to pull away speed is no trouble, even on inclines, it handled it quite well. Though I haven't gotten to an overly steep hill yet to see how the MT copes. I did my CBT on an automatic Peugeot moped restricted to 30mph, mostly due to me having gotten over a 4 week cold, and getting used to the road, I did most of the safe riding in the safe space on a manual Yamaha YS125, unfortunately the cold I had decided to flare up and overheat me from fighting the cold so I had to do my on the road ride a week later. I've managed to get out on the MT, even in light rain to get used to riding in the rain, the clutch of so smooth and with a small amount of revs or even none, I've yet to stall from a standstill. I get plenty of slow speed riding in Hereford as often the traffic moves at 5mph some busy days and I hardly have to put my foot down, even at a stop, though I will put it down of I know it's going to be a long stopping wait, especially if the traffic lights ahead are red.

you say no issues with the gears, would you recommend going to neutral for a stop at the lights for this bike?

I can comfortably cruise at 74 on my 2023 Model! Top speed 77, no aftermarket mods at all, was downhill with wind behind me tho

My Benelli leonchino 125cc gets to 75 mph pretty quick, will be upgrading to the street triple 765 2024 in summer, not been on a motorway yet, aside that i've just passed my A license last month, it should be one hell of a upgrade!

Congrats on the pass and yes. The difference will be obscene. Just take it easy on the motorway. Cars will go out of there way to hit you. Safety first 👍

I've got a 2022 (no mods), I'm 37yrs and about 15stone, if i let it it would do over 75 too lol. pretty impressive.

They are impressive. Arguably the best performing 125 I’ve ever been on.

Just have the use of my lads mt125 and quite impressed! I used to ride big bikes and have recently returned as a pensioner rider. Had a RE Meteor 350 which I have to say was disappointing because of its lack of oomph. So I sold it… the little 125 is far more nippy and useable on our rough and busy roads (like you I’m Manchester area). The 125 has done a better job of rekindling my love of bikes 👍

@@GillyBikes Definitely; I’ve got this one for a while, you definitely miss having a bike around the house I quite enjoy tinkering as well, I used to race a bit in the 80’s so I’ve just been happy giving it a bit of a service etc. I’m still working and would be nice to commute, unfortunately another problem these days is unless you can lock your bike up safely at work ie in a gated area it just isn’t safe, I work at the place that was in the news a few months back when some scroats brazenly nicked a young lads scooter right in front of shoppers… So yeah once it’s in your blood mate you’re a biker for life 👍

Hey, just found your channel today, absolutely love the content, was wondering if you could test 2 125’s the 2023 Yamaha r125 not the yzf and an Aprilia rs4 125 I recently broke my Aprilia it was a 2019 plate and I could get that up to 83mph hitting the rev limit in 6th gear but now I’m looking at getting a Yamaha r125 for my next bike, just wondering if you could showcase them both, thank you

It is pricey but it’s made to last. I like them but I don’t keep bikes long enough so it wouldn’t be my choice.

Would be interesting to see how the hanway furious would do with the same test!

Yes it would. I completely forgot about that bike. That was another quick 125. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Hanway was faster.

How would you compare this bike to a KTM Duke 125 and the Keeway V Cruise 125?

Similar speed / size to the duke. The v cruise is completely different. It is more comfortable and in my opinion a better looking bike, But it’s slower. It’s a brand new model so issues / reliability is an unknown where as the Yam has proven itself as as very reliable bike.

I immediately liked in on "you wont guess what it is - well you will because I will put on the thumbnail." hahahha

Good informative vid. Thought I recognised those roads early on ...I'm pretty local . I have a '22 Yamaha XSR 125 , which is essentially the same bike . Bought BN. 70mph is no problem really , but much more than that and you are wringing its neck.. You need to hold it in the gears , 4th is good for 50 or so , 5th into the upper 60s , and then 6th just takes it over 70. I feel there is definitely more in there , so it could be limited electronically. I dunno . That said , it is only a 125 , and you really feel its on its limit in other ways. Its really happy at 40 - 50 , and has a real fun factor , and if you keep on top of those revs its possible to do the odd cheeky overtake. Ive racked up about 8000mi on mine , commuting . Its been rock solid in all weathers , and has been utterly reliable , 100%. Initially considering a 400cc, I decided on it in the end when petrol hit £2/ltr , as Yamaha were claiming 130MPG , something that the bigger bikes could never do. I figured it probably wouldnt exactly achieve that , but would easily surpass the thirsty car . It is in fact averaging 145MPG , ( I havent reset it at all from new), which is crazy . Mostly on the back lanes between Wigan and Widnes, with a bit of dual carriageway occasionally. Definitely no trouble keeping up . Great little bike . Arguably the perfect bike. Pricey compared to the Chinese rivals , but a much better quality thing . You gets what you pays for..... TIM

145 mpg is amazing, my Niken does about 50mpg. I do have a 300cc that does about 100mpg but It definitely make’s financial sense to have a 125 with the prices being so high for fuel. Doing 8000 miles a year you made a good choice with the Yam. You pay more but they will last longer. 👍

Gilly thanks for getting back i mite have just brought a yamaha mt 125 to practise on speed ometer is playing up i got it cheap will this help me out a lot to pass my mod 2😊

I’m looking at getting one of these as sadly, back in December van reversed into me and now my Honda, CB125R has been written off which was an amazing bike, very fast and could happily sit at 73 +75 mph the acceleration on it was truly insane, I’m looking at getting this bike to switch things up. Is it a good idea to go for the Yamaha M.t. 125 or stick to another CBR?

The Mt is a nice 125. A few on here saying 80 is possible without any mods. Depending on your weight. The CBR is a completely different style and riding position though. The mt will be more comfortable but then you lose the sports bike looks. Both great bikes and I would be happy with either.

its absolutely brilliant mate, with my aftermarket mivv exhaust i can hit 140 kmph / 85+ mph on the motorway

I had a 17 MT125 for a few years and that could get to 80mph absolutely no problem on flat ground and that was completely stock

That’s an impressive stock top speed. Most 125’s struggle after 60.

The euro 4 xmax scooter uses the same barrel and head as the early mt 125, and can sit all day at 70mph 2 up on the motorway,

Funnily enough I took one of those out a few days ago. It didn’t feel as fast as this, but it was unbelievably comfortable.

My Chinese Blueroc can only dream about hitting 60mph let alone 70 mph 😂 What the speedo reads and what it's actually achieving are two completely different things 😮

I’ve been on quite a few 125’s on the motorway. This has been the only one we’re I felt comfortable to overtake cars doing 70mph. My Benelli TNT would need a strong wind and nice down hill section to get close to 70. 😂

The MT is on the edge of the legal limit of what most 125 riders are legally allowed to ride in the U.K (15HP) with the performance exhaust it may well be pushing out more than that.

My Honda SH Mode 125 cuts out at 65 but don't believe it would go much faster - and 130mpg!

They sold this straight after I did this video. They do have lots of 125’s there at the moment but if it’s one of these in particular you want it might be worth phoning them. To see if they have one at another shop.

I got the 2015 model low mileage it does 70 easy tbese bikes will its strong engine for 125

All 3 of those are good options. The CBR is a bit more sporty with the seating position so you do lean over the tank a bit. They look brilliant but they do batter my back after a few hours riding.

Keeway are not what they used to be. They have upped their game with the bikes like the vcruise and the RKV. But I do understand what your saying. With these bikes being brand new only time will tell how they age and it’s best to let someone else take that risk 👍

I have the same bike and 2021 model, my top speed so far is 73 mph. i have a full black widow exhaust, K&N air filter, different sprockets. I absolutely love this bike , its surprising quite nippy.

How ever for anyone wanting to re-map the ECU, I have found it difficult to find an aftermarket ECU for it to be tuned unless the parts come from Germany or Italy.@@GillyBikes

Was talking to a guy this morning on the way home from work,he had a 2015 mt 125 and he was saying he had 85 top whack out of his,his had a after market exhaust(cant remember which one sry) he was about 5ft 7 and looked about 70 -80kgs. Not sure how true that was,just had to take his word for it. It was a nice looking bike though👍

I can believe that. This one must have a limiter on it. It seemed to stop increasing speed at 70 but felt like it still had more to give.

I get 70 out of mine no struggle but I’ve also had 85 leaning forward still could have got more and that’s completely standard

Why am i struggling to get over 60 on mine its brand new only done 500 miles im not that big of a bloke so i dont think weight is the problem but i can barely get it to 70

That rust on the plate holder you mentioned thats just a cheap tail tidy not a Yamaha part and you can get them to 85mph you just have to be on the tank like vaneltino rose 😂 that exhaust is also quite expensive (like £700 from the dealership) not sure how it would effect the mpg but i get 110mpg standard, there great little bikes just abit gutless iv been looking at upgrades for mine

Yes I believe so. A cheap addition. 110mpg is impressive. The issue with 125’s is eventually you get used to the power and performance and you need a bigger bike.

@@TheG.O.G it doubles the power for £260 lol those engines are nurtured for emissions and the 15hp limit anyway you'd be surprised what there capable of and if you change the gearing they do over 100 as for a bigger bike I'm not interested, it's more fun riding a small cc bike fast imo it just needed a little extra its like a new bike! And have you ever been on a naked style bike before good luck with anything over 100 it's no fun but thanks for your wealth of knowledge anyway 😂

They are nice bikes. If you like it then get it. Every bike will rust if you leave them outside and don’t look after them. With Yamaha you’re getting a premium bike. Let me know if you buy it 👍

For anyone over the age of around 25 this bike is extremely uncomfortable. The peg position is way too far back which combined with the seat angle throws the rider forward and puts excessive weight on the wrists. Why do motorcycle manufacturers do this stupid thing? It makes journeys over a few miles very uncomfortable. It is not meant to be a mini sports bike and Yamaha makes those for people who want that kind of thing. This is meant to be a general purpose machine and it fails in that regard.

It’s strange because as someone in their 40’s I didn’t find that at all. I found it comfortable. It’s nowhere near as hard on your wrists as a sports bike. But I do know that as we are all different shapes and sizes what someone finds comfortable someone else may not. I always say before buying anything go and sit on one and make sure it’s comfortable for you.
