Yamaha DX7-IIFD - Internal Presets 1-32

I picked up this Yamaha DX7-IIFD at a Guitar Center in late January. The battery died just a couple of days after I got it, we finally fixed it this week! Here are the first internal presets with "subtitles".

The DX7 sounds 15 times better when it's being operated by someone that can actually play keys. You breathe so much life into those sounds :)

Personally I wish people would let us here the actual sounds on these kinds of videos, rather than playing chords and melodies. Chords on bass sounds? Jesus!

I bought my DX7-IIFD way back in 1987 when it was first released along with the Tone Module TG-55. This is essentially the DX7 gubbins without the keyboard! Happily, I still have both, although I've hardly played them for years. The little battery in the DX7 has expired, so the thing won't boot up. I'll have to replace it; I do hope it isn't a big job. I'm glad to see the Old Queen still has some life in her and is being rediscovered by a new generation. It really was an amazing machine for it's time and was played on many of the 80s hits by those long faded Pop-Band combos!

The Yamaha DX7-IIFD internal patch "Full Tines" was heard in some theme in some 1989 episode of The Rockets.

All the original Yamaha sounds for all DX machines are available in Dexed (FYI).

Very nice, but could do with some effects (reverb, delay, even chorus) to bring the sounds to life. I always loved the DX7 sound, but it REALLY shines when put through some effects.

If I find a decent composition to use, then sure. I guess the whole point of the demo was to show off the sounds coming directly from the DX7 ii.

2:27-2:38 VERY similar to the "pluck" sound used in the theme song of Fresh Prince of Bel Air!!

Yes, I just listened to the theme song from “Fresh Prince”, and I can safely say both what I was playing and the preset sounded similar. Who knew?

4:58 I think that's the sound used on the beginning of George Michael's song, "Hard Day". Is that supposed to be some sort of flute?

As of April 2024, the closest I’ve gotten to having a DX7 is the FB01 module that was in my current domicile when I arrived here. If I did purchase one, it would probably be a MkII like this one.

I have an RX5 that has been memory modified x16 times it's original 99 PTN's and 20 Songs. It now has 1,584 PTN's and 320 Songs. It's like having 16 RX5 machines. I can also swap from one memory to another via cartridge. Works fine! I also had a RX7 with the same mod. But I sold that one. But I'm keeping the RX5
