I wish they would have a graded hammer/triple sensor option for the 73. I understand the majority of the market will be EP players, but I play piano primarily and prefer that touch. I never really need a full 88, but always have to compromise either on size or touch.

I really enjoy this new philosophy of live performance oriented products! I hope for joystick istead of the wheels for the synth and more memory. It would be also great to have a pre-installed live setting for the master eq to have the instruments ready for a PA system (I've to adjust a lot the settings moving from the studio to the gig). Anyway, Great product!

I have the money to buy the cp 73 and have been considering it. I've yet to hear a full demo of this board, though this video said full demo. I play left hand bass and need to hear the bass sounds along with a few other sounds. The guy in the video spends too much time talking about effects, and how the board works. That's all great, but there has yet to be a video sharing all of the sub sounds. I have had high Hope's for this board because of all the features and ease of use, but since I cant find one in the stores to actually check out like everyone else I'm depending on this video to let me hear all of the sounds.

If Yamaha will put a great hammond clone inside the synths, they'll take a portion of Nord's market... 'cause we haven't already heard an instruments that combine a FULL WORKSTATION structure, options and memory with the maximum quality in all sound categories. Another plus of the red products is the large library of great vintage analog and digital synths, mellotrons, etc, it opens up a lot of creativity for the producers.

Lovely keyboard. Tested it for about 3 hours. Really like control layout. What’s irritating to me is that the samples, pianos even the CFX ones, have a very short decay and sustain. Why Yamaha? Memory economics? The Kawai MP7’s and MP11’s have longer fuller decays and sustain, same with the Nord’s and even my Yamaha P-250. The sound have a great first strike initial sound but then just disappears rapidly. The tone is somewhat longer in the bass but super short from C3 or even lower. Own the MODX7 and as I said a P-250. So nothing against Yamaha per se. Liked the new Nord Grand Keybed (made by Kawai) and some of the sounds with all that extra sampledepth which you can modify. But don’t have 3000€ and think the CP has a better and more satisfying button layout and feel. But maybe the sample-/sound can be fixed in a future update. Have seen tons of reviews and none of the reviewers seem to hear this. It’s quite obvious though.

I just bought one of these, waiting for it to arrive. That piano sounds pretty harsh to me when you strike it hard. Clearly Yamaha added some circuitry in there which raises the high frequencies as velocity increases. There are times when you might want to cut through like that, but as a solo piano patch, that is too harsh for my taste.

I just read the CP88 is missing escapement. So no escapement, no sympathetic resonance modeling, and older sampling technology. It's obvious this isn't really geared towards pianists. • @MaxThompsonMusic

I don't mind the older sampling tech as you can squeeze a lot out of it, but I do think the lack of resonance is odd considering the competition and the target market. I have wondered for years why Yamaha never made a 73 key instrument. Finally they do. You can’t please everybody. I could have done with a few less knobs and switches and had drawbars instead. Rhodes/Wurlie and Grands have always been their strongpoint - but organs? No go. Most professionals play the main bread and butter instruments at gigs. Disappointed. I have been wanting to have a 73 or 76 note keyboard for live purposes but still waiting. Ok Roland or Korg. Your turn. Maybe NI or Scarbee will make a 73 note keyboard with Scarbee Rhodes/Wurlitzer and license Ivory for the piano. I’m getting old. Hurry.

A valid point if having one keyboard that has a full arsenal of sounds is the priority. For my main stage piano, I primarily use piano and electric pianos except I also kick left hand bass. Having a piano board that has quick, on the fly split and layer capabilities as well as an excellent action is critical to me. I have a Roland VR-730 for the rest of my palette, which also has easy split and layer functions. This piano looks like a great option for my stage needs. The lack of hundreds of onboard sounds isn’t a deterrent to me. I barely use them on my current stage piano.

There is nothing spectacular about this keyboard, the action is crap unlike the Nord and Korg who like to put the same action in their Hi end 73 and 76 keyboards as their 88 keyboards. The sounds are the same as all the other hi end previous Yamahas and you have just copied the Nord keyboard or at least tried but it doesnt look half as good or function as well.My 1000$ Juno Ds 88 has all those cool sounds settings and pianos and some.

Just bought nord stage 3,returning it,action sucks, seems you have to do a lot of tweaking on nord to get good sounds, they say real easy interface, but I don’t think so,too much work, they need to make stock factory sounds a lot better for what you pay for these things,,I will probably try this keyboard though, heard the action is really good.

Yamaha feels much nicer then the Nord Stage 3, also easier on the CP to find the sound you want. Nord's are a a lot of tweaking at times but still a fantastic keyboard. I really rate the Nord's organ section though its totally trumps the Yamaha. Its a hard pick but very subjective.

I have a NORD Stage 2 and agree with you to a point. They’ve used the same approach as NORD in the design but I think it looks good... I think the pianos and violin sounds in the Yamaha sounds better than NORD, but NORD kills the Yamaha with electric pianos and organs.

If you want to listem to someone just playing the sounds and no talking there are plenty of videos here on YT. And BTW..., nobody OWES you a demo video at all... Want to demo this kbd? Go to a bloody music store and demo it yourself!! About the CP70 sound, it's a shame he didn't demo that, but that's not the main goal of this kbd or this demo, and he can't demo all the 50 or so sounds and effects on it... And the CP name on the CP73 is not even remotely about the CP70/80 electric vintage pianos. the CP on the CP73/88 stands for "COMBO (compact) PIANO". I just love it when people make bold statements without having a f*****ng idea of what the hell they are talking about.... SIIIIGHHHHH.........................
