The Yamaha CP73 represents the definitive evolution of the stage piano with enhanced portability, ease of use, and state-of-the-art sound. “CP” stands for Combo Piano, and the CP lineage goes back to 1976 when Yamaha first tackled the challenge of electrifying the sound of an acoustic grand piano. Flash forward to today, where Yamaha’s advanced technology sets the standard for digital pianos in an instrument that incorporates the company’s century-plus of piano craftsmanship and over four decades of synthesizer innovation.

Hi friend, excellent review!!!..., for you, the best key action (more balanced, faster, same weight at back of keys, best for classical practice, reliable and less noisy) and sound connection (accurate, fast response for jazz and classical repertoire), between these options: Roland RD-2000, Kawai MP7, Yamaha CP4, Yamaha CP88 and Yamaha P515. Thanks...!.

This is maybe an ignorant question, but do these pianos come with a VST version of the samples, or would you have to record it as an analog instrument if you were going to record into a DAW?

Got to admit that Yamaha designed it also for stage presence. you can see it in the back the knobs and switches giving it that old kind of keyboard feeling.

Anything like this that starts on C? I tried the Korg EX73 but didn't like the piano sounds or the semi-weighted keys. All other 73 / 76es that I've seen start on E. I'd rather lose the top 4 keys and start on C.

Never mind. I'm buying it. Adjusting the octave down, it'll be kinda like a 65 key board starting on C, or like a 68 key board starting on A. Or like a 73 key board starting on...

Hello! Yes, the CP73 has a large swath of internal sounds it can produce - it sounds terrific! It doesn't have internal speakers, but you can connect it to headphones or an amplifier / PA system. Of course, you can also connect it via USB to a computer and use it as a MIDI controller inside of any DAW. If you'd like to go into more detail, please call my number below. Hi there. That is a great question! If you press the "Touch" button, it will bring up a display screen that allows you to alter how the velocities will be generated according to the strength that you play the notes. You can also access it from the "Menu" - "General" - "Keyboard/Pedal" - "Touch Curve." From there, you change change between Normal, Soft, Hard, Wide, and Fixed curves. Let us know if you have any other questions! Maryann Shirley, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1774, maryann_shirley@sweetwater.com

Right? Like how hard can it be to just throw some halfway decent PCM samples in there, a Hammond is just triangle waves stacked on top of each other. Logic Pro has one of the best virtual organs out there with full leslie emulation, the entire suite is $200 and you can run it on a $500 computer. I shouldn't have to spend 3 grand on a Nord or Hammond just to have a damn organ that sounds like an organ! I can make a better organ sound from two oscillators on a cheap korg analog synth. I don't get it.

@@Cat-Daddy Played the thing for real yesterday, organ wasn't great for a $3000 AUD price tag.... I find this thin, boxy, artificial and with a mid range boost that is not well. No depth whatsoever. How in the world is this intended to be a "Nord Killer"?. They just copied the looks, but they included 5 times LESS sounds than Nord, and the quality is sub par. Effects sounds like a toy. Who on earth would want to drop $2,000 for a keyboard with just 57 sounds?. Even Casio keyboards nowadays are putting out better options.

  • @vito_keys

I kinda agree with you there. The piano and sub sounds is no different from other Yamaha digital pianos, while the electric piano and most effects are just taken from the 4-year old Reface synths. For me, the CP4 Stage is still better when it comes to sound collection And yes, Casio gives a better option at an even lower price. The new PX-S1000 and PX-S3000 really packs a punch within a $500 - $900 price range

I totally agree. All of the pianos sound alike. No depth. Tried to adjust the touch for softer playing. No variation at all. Those buttons and knobs are useless. The electric pianos are disappointing. I've owned the Nord Piano 2, and this doesn't add up to the Nord. The sub voices are dismal. Not worth the money. I ordered the CP88 and returned it a week later. Got the MODX8 instead.
