I pick up a very clean, and well cared for Sony dvp-cx985v last week for 20 bucks, the guy said the carousel doesn't move anymore, so I said I'll take it, I asked hey does it come with the remote, to which he said I lost that a while back, so I buy it put it in my van and head home, I get home plug it in to test, and you can hear the gears grinding, I real quick unplug it, and put it to the side, later that night I go to take the cover off, and low and behold, there's the remote, stuck between the top plastic and the loading mechanism, I was lucky it didn't break anything, so I took the stuck remote out, and it works flawlessly, so does the remote..... LMAO just thought I'd share.

I don’t think I’m not that mechanically inclined but I saw your video and went ahead and bought a replacement belt. It was a small investment (EBay $12) to see if it could be repaired before paying for a new machine. It took a few shots (tries not alcohol) to get the belt on the pulley using long nosed pliers. Plugged it back in and success!! Thank you your clear instructions.

To expose the tray loading belt completely you must remove the tray securing spigots (my terminology) on either side at the rear of the tray. These are located in the round recessed areas and you need to rotate them anti-clockwise and then pull them up. Be careful as I have seen these break if too much tension is applied or they are turned in the wrong direction. Once removed the tray can be pulled right out to allow easy access to the belt and spindles.

Hi @12voltvids! Your video helped me solve the open/close issue however I was wondering if you ever experienced an issue where the tray doesn't rotate all the way to each CDs proper stopping point? Mine rotates to almost an 80% and gets stuck. It keeps rotating if I push it manually with the lid off but this is less than ideal. Thank you in advance!

Thanks for the video! I have an Akai CD-A70 CD player. When switched on, the backlight for the LC display lights up, along with the horizontal segments of the 7 segment LC display. The words "music no", "index no" and "time" also appear. However, when the open/close button is pressed, either via the remote control, or front panel buttons, the loading tray motor does not turn on, and the tray is not ejected. I have cleaned the lens (with a cotton bud & isopropanol) but it didn't help. Could you please suggest what I can do to fix the player?

Thanks for sharing this. I have a CDC655 that I just got around to testing it out after connecting a few of my speakers. I played a track or 2, changed the CD then while trying to pull out that 2nd CD & put in a 3rd everything went to shit. It was just grinding away and the only way to make it stop was turn off the power. After many attempts I got so frustrated I pounded on the top until the tray opened a fraction that I could grab it, pull it out to remove my CD. But unit is totally stuck & won't even play anymore either. What else could it be besides the belt? Is there any sense me opening it up when I don't really know what to do other than what you so kindly posted? I hope I didn't make things worse.

to remove bird droppings from your car paintwork put some car polish on a tissue and lay it on the dropping leave it for a few minutes then wipe it off works best if the dropping is dry rather than a fresh one

Hey buddy. Love your channel! Got a question for you. I just recently purchased a Yamaha CDX-900U that has the same issue. My question is this. Is this a rare unit because I cannot find much info at all about these machines and none are being sold on eBay ect. Any insight on this unit would be much appreciated. Thanks! And keep up the good content.

Great video!! I have a crazy question. Why did they still use belts? Belts stretch and wear out. (Maybe that's the reason). Couldn't they use all gears? I can remember when our first VCR used rubber coated wheels. Then later ones had gears. However, some cassette decks and probably all CD/DVD players use rubber belts to open the drawer.

Good. VIdeo, but the transition to where the belt was (1:40) was very fast with no referece. It took me like 10 mins to realize that the camera was now sideways and the tray is on the right. Anyway, very good info. Thanks

I love CD changers, especially the big ones like 200 - 400 disks. Put the entire CD collection in it and forget about it. Only problem is remembering which slot a CD is in, but in random play this is not an issue. I have 200 CD-Rs in mine and each CDR is loaded with just the good music from more than 600 CDs that now live in a couple of totes. I would like to get that Sony HDD based 500 gig music player. I don't stream here. I refuse to pay monthly fees for streaming services or satellite radio. I don't even have netflix.
