10.0.0.0 Subnets -Check ;) Joke aside, what you will do with the Raspberry Pi what we can see from the video? In the last video there were lots of HDDs shown for a second. Did you already built a RAID array with them to store video?

Yamaha made some really good receivers. I remember the Yamaha RX-V2090 5 channel receiver with dolby pro Logic in 1993. This was Yahama's top of the line receiver back then. It was so built and sounded good while watching a movie using Canton Ergo 90 speakers

Salvaging electrolytic capacitors is asking for trouble. The only ones worth salvaging are the mains 400V 185C rated caps which are less than 2 years old. The other elkos should go to the trash, or do not even spend the time to desolder them...

I got one of these receivers in working condition from my in-laws. I don't blame you for scrapping it, but it sounds very good being used as a 2-channel or 2.1 unit as well. I sold mine because it had only analog inputs and all my TVs are digital only (and I have a Technics stereo receiver already that sits in my shop).

The output transistors opposite the bulging capacitor should be short circuit. You don't have to remove the transistors when testing, but only remove them if they are faulty. You can use a simple diode test via your multi meter to test the emitter/ base and collector/base gate voltage drop. The capacitor blew because the transistors shorted, same as the burnt resistors. The amplifier must have been sitting around for several years for the corrosion from the capacitor spillage to be that advanced. Short circuit usually happens when owner is fiddling around with speaker wires when amplifier is powered on. Rarely does over driving the amplifier cause the transistors to blow. Dry joints from excessive heat can be another factor for the outputs to go into thermal runaway and blow out.

OMG, two days ago I had the SAME maintenance on my RX-V995, it was starting and then turning off immediately exactly like yours, I just gave up disassembling the boards, and cleaned it with a long brush, patience, much sneezing by the powder, and them washing it with Hexane, the unit is running like new. I wish I had a look on this video before my adventure lol.

Hey, thanks for your video, I was actually having some issues with my Marantz SR-5011 receiver (it shuts down by itself after being on for many hours and enters an error mode with the power led blinking) and was searching for some similar experiences. I started to watch and then just got curious. At some point you mentioned the possible explanation for the Yamaha failure as having to do with some incorrect impedance used and then I remembered that I had set mine to 6 ohms with the previous speakers and my new speakers were 8 ohms. I am curious if it solves the problem. Thanks again!

I have a newer one downstairs, too, that isn't working.... Yamaha RXV, I forget the number.... Volume control quit working.... Your videos are inspiring me to take a look at it....

Great video, its crazy that even in todays Yamaha's AV receivers that they still don't add a good cooling system (especially with the price tag Yamaha asks for these systems, knowing they have overheating issues) Ive lost count at how many youtube repair videos are out there where the problem is always heat destroying the caps, or other component's on these AV receiver's

I checked the fuses and the power in the power supply = 13,3 DC OUT PUT. The capacitor on the power supply is normal there is no blurber. What would you suggest for me to do?

I recently have bought exactly the same receiver for my friend, but perfectly working, except one minor issue. I found it very nice sounding and musical in my stereo setup, so good that decided to keep it and by another for that friend! I think you should not dismiss amplifiers just because they have more channels than you need... ;) By the way, is CD player ok? I would really like having a matching one to my receiver, but did not find any for sale in europe. I guess postage would not be completely insane... Thanks for your great videos! And if you still reading, would you by any chance sell me that big motorized potentiometer? Mine is a bit noisy...

I have a Yamaha RX-595 and a intermittent mode selector with remote control capability. Your video was very good but it did not concentrate on the selectors. Can the contacts be cleaned while installed such as with a contact cleaner? It has a metal housing with some holes that surrounds the selector and gear connection for the remote control motor that is mounted 90 degrees to the selector shaft.

Hey man. I have an older Yamaha A/V 5.1ch receiver that I would like to use in just STEREO mode and disconnect the on board amplifiers and bypass them to an external 2ch pro audio amp.. I dont have preamp outputs. Just rec out. Do you think there is a point in my receiver where I can desolder the on board amp/s and solder in some RCA connectors to go to my external amp? I am sorry for this confusing question but I have looked and looked and havent found anything like what I mentioned. This vid was the closest and I figured you could tell me if its even worth trying? Thanks.

Niko Bellic thank you for the reply. I will look into that converter thing. I went on ebay and found an older home receiver with preamp out for 40 bucks. . I just don't have video switching now. Oh well, it's LOUWD. I purchased a Behringer km1700 amp. Rated at 1700 watts peak but when I do the math, it's actually a little above 500 watts rms per chanel into 4ohms. I am happy but it would be nice to have video switching back. Thanks

My co-curricular classes at school teaches students about robotics and electronics. Another class had a wide-format printer break and donated it to us. in less than an hour, we had the thing cut open and divided amongst other students to de-solder the components to be sorted into boxes. Later that afternoon, the teacher who donated the printer asked if they were going to fix it. "no." he said with a smile on his face. \ the printer was worth more in parts than it cost to replace...The students had a fun afternoon beating eachother with cat-of-9-tails fashtioned out of gears the wiring from the printer...

Is the headphone out driven by a 'resister off the speaker outputs' or a separate amp?? If it is seperate, is there a cheap headphone amp 'opamp' or something that can make it sound more 'flat' (uncolored?). I got one of these locally on Craigslist working with remote for $40 but the headphone out is very uneven. There is a midbass boost & high rolloff & even with the bass down all the way it still sounds boosted but no deep bass then, & boosting the treble makes it spiky sounding rather than airy because it's centered 2 low. Sony stuff has much more 'naturally balanced' headphone output =/

My theory is the capacitor blowing may have been unrelated or happened after the actual damage. To me it looks like someone spilled some liquid in the top. Since these have an open grill to vent the heat, it would be very easy to do accidentally.

Hello, I have a problem with memory backup at my Yamaha RX-V520RDS, so maybe someone could help me solve this. Even short, power loss receiver loses memorized radio stations. In manual there is the statement: "Memory back-up The memory back-up circuit prevents the stored data from being lost when this unit is set in the standby mode. If, however, the power cord is disconnected from the AC power outlet or the power is cut for more than one week, the memory will be erased." As it is stated if the receiver is without power for more than one week, memory is erased, but in my case, it is erased instantly even if it is unplugged for 1sec. In the service manual, I tried to find something about back-up circuit , how it stores data or does it have some kind of battery but could not find anything. Do you have an idea what could be wrong with memory backup? Should there be some kind of battery or some larger capacitor which provides power for memory backup? This is the only issue I have with this receiver, everything else works flawlessly. Thank you.

It looks a lot like someone/something spilled some liquid in it, given how there such a large area affected. The capacitor also seems too small to contain such an amount of electrolyte.
