xTool screen printer for lasers!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Screen printing has never been easier with this new tool from xTool. Using the easy stretch frame and steel screens, you can take your design from the computer to the screen printer in less than an hour. I covered the basic setup using single-color screens and a couple of different items.

    A very thorough presentation, well done. This screen printing set up is great for one off or up to about 10 to 20 items and great for individualised creations. Costing could be pricey.

    I agree that this is more towards the small scale shop or for a very quick rush job of a simple design. I was able to prep the screens for each of these designs in about 20 minutes.

    They need to market a version of this to the screen print industry. With the precision of a laser, I would expect multi color would be a breeze with a laser based system. They will need more mesh options though.

    Unfortunately, the D1 foot spacing is not the same front to back and side to side. But you could make a fixture that has two pins at the proper spacing to do the same thing as the one included. The pins match up with the two slots on the screen frame but have no other holding mechanism.

    They have a few different kit options. Primarily there is the single color kit with one frame and a few screens and the multi color kit with three frames and more screens. They did offer a kit with the laser during the kickstarter campaign but I’m not sure if they still offer that. You can use any laser with it as long as the frames will fit in the working area.

    thanks for doing this video. It's really neat to see this come to market.... however, XTOOL as far as I can tell doesn't sell the screens yet. So If I'm not mistaken, at the moment you have to buy the kit for $250 and only get 3 screens. I sure hope they sell the screens soon. I'm truly interested in this for sure!! Have they said anything to you about when the screens will be available??

    In theory yes, you can clean the used screens off and then re-coat them with new emulsion, then once cured, you can laser a new design into them. I have not tried that yet but I hope to.

    I’ve only swapped the screens back out a couple times so I’ll have to get a feel for that. They do form a bit of a roll where they get tucked into the frame so it might just be flattening that back out each time you reinstall them. I plan to do more testing and will follow up with more information as I get more time with it.

    @@Vintauri thank you for that I knew that would be an issue as no one but you has ever took out and put back in a screen on KZread that I know of yet and with you only getting one frame in the basic package it makes you wonder if your ment to by more frames in order to get the number of usage out of each screen you burn or if it will be even better than traditional screen printing where it will be like a stack of papers instead of a stack of books with a frame instead of stacking just the screens up. That extra space adds up after many screens and it makes it harder to house all of the screens you have made over time. So I to would just like to house screens instead of housing screens in frames but not sure if the screens will even line up if you do a multi layer image with multiple screens as that may be when you actually should keep them in there own frames maybe but who knows thats why I'm trying to learn all I can before mine comes in.

    How did you get the bar that hooks to the D1 at 6:30 in the video? I didn't get one with my screen printer and can't find this to buy anywhere. Would you be willing to share the measurements of that bar so I can 3D print one if I can't buy it anywhere?

  • @Vintauri

    The bar is part of the multi screen kit. It keys into the feet of the D1 and then has two pegs that align with the slots on the screen frame. This part will hopefully be available once they get caught up on all the screen printing accessories availability. But you could easily make your own fixture, the key part is having pegs that are spaced to fit the two slots on the screen frame.

    I have done a few t-shirts and they have done well after washing so far. I'm waiting on the screens to become available again to try some multi-color designs and will do some durability tests after that. It will help to pick up a flash dryer to really bake the ink into the material but letting it air dry for 24 hours before really using and washing seems to be working well so far.

    Hey Steve, I know at the beginning of the video you said working with the basic to do a signal color but then you used the bracket that comes with the multi-color kit. I bought the basic but now I would like to due multi-color. Do you think a jig could be made to fit the S1? xTool goes round and round with me about you need to buy the multi-color printer to use those! WHY! I have multi screens but I can't line them up the same every time. Maybe you could send me the measurements of the S1 tool to hold the frame so I can try to build something like it. I like the video and that you take it nice and slow.

  • @Vintauri

    @Vintauri

    I only have the fixture for the D1 series of lasers so I can't help you with measurements, however, the fixture for the D1 is only a couple of pins that match up with the screen frame mounts that will allow you to put the frame in the laser in the exact same spot so as you move from frame to frame the engraving would be in the same position relative to the pins. So making a home made alignment jig should not be difficult. Once xTool has more screens in stock, I plan to purchase some more and then I'll see what I can come up with for the S1 laser.

  • @Vintauri

    It's about 11x16" which is about the biggest you'll be able to get into the typical diode laser bed frame. The real working area of that will be a bit reduced in practicality but it's still big enough to get a decent print on a t-shirt. It wont replace a larger screen printing tree for a business doing a lot of work, but for a small shop or hobbyist, I think it's a decent way to be able to make small runs of unique items.

    I think a hobbyist might find this useful, but any large quantities.. There are just too many limitations.. One size screen with a mesh count of 100? Ink in little jars? In the normal screen printing world there are countless options.. Different size screens, different mesh counts, specialty inks, ink that comes in quarts or gallons (economical).. I do like the idea of metal screen mesh for use with the laser. But for a small hobbyist this would work fine..

  • @Vintauri

    @Vintauri

    6 ай бұрын

    This is very much aimed at the hobbyist and not a large commercial shop. This is also the first run of screens and they have talked about expanding the sizes and options in the future. You are not limited to their ink. I did purchase some other inks in slightly larger containers from Amazon. The metal screens and quick prep time is one of the big features here as I was able to prep each of the designs in about 20 minutes and start printing right away.

    @@Vintauri there needs to be a way to clean off the emulsion and apply new emulsion. Because eventually the screen is going to degrade to the point of being useless. I wonder if regular emulsion would work if you exposed the whole screen and then etched out the new design with the laser.. If I find the time (very debatable) I might try...

    Yes. they have stated that you can use an emulsion cleaner to clear the entire screen and then re-apply fresh emulsion to the entire screen to refresh them.
