Got my xt 250 2 months ago. Im 48 riding for years from sport to sport touring to klx now XT. I took mine reluctantly on the 403 In Hamilton with busy moving traffic. I was able to max out 135 which is like 125ish stock gearing. I was stable riding it with weight forward more arms wide on bars and elbows level to bar and tires had no issues. I didnt run it full throttle for more than couple minutes but it was good to know i could do short jaunts comfortably. The klx 250 had down one tooth front to 13 and engine sounded strained at 120 never ran it that high often and had 80/ 20 tires. Once you get more experience on the XT the bike and bridgestone tires are quiet capable at speed and lean angles. Enjoy your bike and take it step by step. Stay away from busy highways as best you can. 😅

Thanks for the comment, did well on the road test, glad I’m finished…. If I do any highway it’s normally on the 80km/hr. I usually go about 90 on those if busy .. (no one drives 80). We have a lot of back roads and very little traffic so I’m fortunate. I’m happy with the stock tires also, they seem to be a good match.

Excellent highway jaunt 👍👍. Hope the certification goes well. This is another great example of how versatile this awesome bike really is.

New XT250 rider and debating doing the sprocket swap. I love the torque on the trails, but I'd also like to be more comfortable on highways, if only for brief stints. Thanks for the demo.

It’s cheap and easy to change, if you’d don’t like..,,,swap it back.

Fellow Canadian, good video about to deal with the same thing

Happy to see this video.. I’m contemplating getting the XT 250 and won’t ever take it on the 400 series highways but was wondering for the same reason how it would do for the M2 exit test, as I’ll have to do it on the 403 in Hamilton. Happy to see you at least got 109km/h. What’s your body weight ? Just wondering if I’ll get a similar top speed. Thanks ! 💪🏽 🏍️

The time spent on the 403 would be minimal, I did fine. The examiner understands this, basically they want you to see the entry and exit from the highway and proper lane change for passing... You don't need to actually pass anyone, just do the demo.... you be fine, one other person had a klx220 I think... they were fine also.... I was concerned also but having done it.. no worries...

@@kd_enterprise3404 I know this is a 1 year old vid but I couldn't help but wonder if in Canada you have to do this for your license? Boy I guess I just take for granted that down here in the good ol' USA that a license is just a simple matter of driving through a few cones and a simple written test and off you go to do whatever you want with whatever bike you want! I'm getting a xt250 just to ride the trails in CO. wont be riding on any expressways.

@dougupah8778 things were simple at one time as in the USA BUT... now basically if you don't take the course as say a beginner.. you can't buy nor license a bike.. unless you have about 5000 a year for insurance. The second course is not mandatory and you can just go take the riding exam.. But it cost money each time... if u take the course you will pass and then u can get reasonable insurance.. mine in 417 for this year..

Where i live the highway is 80mph or around 130 kph. Boy she really gets scarry for more then a quick exit hop going that fast 🤘😂

Oddly it’s just a bit of a turn of the head and able to keep an eye on the road, zooming the footage in makes it seem as though I’m looking at it.. the GoPro has a decent wide angle…

I've been wanting to test mine on a local highway (65 mph / 104 kph limit), but I probably won't do it. When I was in my 20s, I had a Honda CB450 and really disliked riding on the highway as I recall.

I actually got mine up to 115 on the gps the other day while doing my road test to get the full M license.

My brand new one goes 118 which in reality is about 106 km/h I think. Haven't re geared it yet but I probably won't increase the speed anyway, I'd rather have more torque for trails. Idk man I don't take it on the 401 because my bigger bikes have saved my ass from multiple clowns going way too fast weaving lanes on the 401. A blip of the throttle and a push to the shoulder saved me a couple times. Having no extra power is a bit of a scary situation.

I don’t recommend driving the 401 either on the XT, have to do it for a driver test… it’s true the bike may not go faster, however I did it so I could run a lower rpm when cruising on secondary highways and reasonable dirt roads, have not had any issues on intermediate trails, but certainly some situations may require more torque.

M2 it's basically a license with a few restrictions, u have hold it for 18+ months then u can do a road test and get the full M license.

Its interesting that the bikes speedo is showing the speed being 7 more than what the GPS is saying.

Very common on many bikes, many people say it's for manufacturer liability issues.

@@kd_enterprise3404 That's really, really strange. I think this has crept into the average commuter car market too. Something to keep an eye on. Appreciate the reply and love the video. You ever take it back on the highway again? If I get a bike the XT would probably be my first. Kinda hoping Yamaha makes a Tenere 300, but let's see.
