Xsens FINALLY EXPLAINS new pricing! ***IT'S CHEAPER*** ( Xsens Awinda Starter Review )

Комедия

Xsens and I had a meeting, so here is their explanation. If you bought before April 2021 you're grandfathered into the older pricing + month to month pricing available
This video is not sponsored. I however did an extra free year promoting in a HaloFollower video the suit + promoting in Halo: Lost Wolves Episode 1. However knowing that the entry price is now $3,800 + $275 per month basis that can cancel/start billing is pretty neat.

Imagine buying a car and being told you only get to drive it for 30 seconds a month but you can up that drive time to 30 minutes per month for just 275. This company is unethical with these price points.

It’s more approachable now but this leaves me hesitant. Everything is all relative to their previous pricing models, but they should compare their prices to their competition. I can get PN Studio for the same price while avoiding a monthly fee and receiving free updates to their “HD Processor”. That being said, a freelancer with multiple reoccurring clients won’t mind be charged a monthly fee but not $300-400/mo. The return on investment in this industry isn’t that luxurious for us freelancers, we still have other CG bills to pay and that added monthly fee could potentially bring us to $800-1300/mo. So nope, that pricing is not gonna slide, but I would definitely submit to $100 per 30mins. That sounds affordable

So actually it's $275 a month if you want to pay per month basis then cancel the next month, etc. But the bright side is you can get away with paying a lot less throughout the year, if you coordinate your mocap efforts certain months

My bet is they're forcing you to use the Cloud option to get your animations for themselves as well. They'll eventually have an archive of animations for sale. So first they charge you for the hardware, then the software, then the cloud services, then they make use of your animations for their own benefit... nice scheme.

I doubt they'd be that stupid, although not much would surprise me these days. Motion Cloud is definitely going to be a big problem for a lot of companies that are bound by NDA's though. It's a whole can of worms in terms of data privacy issues.

So wait, you can't even use Unreal with the basic Animate? They need to do a MUCH better job than this shit. If i'm paying 4-$12,000 for a mocap suit I damn well better be able to do whatever the hell I want with it. They need to completely get rid of that cloud BS, drop the MVN Animate Plus options down to the Free Basic category and not have their new gloves cost as much as then entire lowest tier 'suit'. Then, I would be much more inclined to purchase a setup from them. Literally the ONLY advantage they have over their competition is magnetic shielding. Once their competitors catch up they are going to be left behind if they don't change now. Yes, the suits are cheaper but they are looking like Apple right now killing you with the price of the 'addons' and bottlenecks.

If the fees would go away or at least the free version had the limit of 30 minutes, I would buy this immediately - as other guys said here, if you also want finger mocap this becomes very expensive on itself. I am eyeing mocap suits for around a year now and got really excited by this, but was disappointed by the recurring fees - looks like I might have to settle with Rokoko as well

@@evesattler1570 yeah I have a little experience with motion capture...nearly 20 years of working with it. Maybe I got unlucky with faulty hardware or something but I know I'm far from alone in being extremely disappointed with Rokoko

  • @evesattler1570

@@goblin_games Maybe they improved their algorithm by now or you had lots of magnetic interference - I had the experience that 50 percent of the takes require only a few MoBu filters to smooth out the rather jaggy curves and the other half also needs a bit of additional auxEffector fixing, but overall and for that price I cannot complain (for my usecase). I also worked with iPiSoft for a while, which I found much more tedious to set up and the spacial limitations were also not too nice. And with iPi captures I still had to run the same filters and auxEffectors as with the Rokoko captures

  • @goblin_games

@@evesattler1570 usually I'd be shooting outdoors in tennis courts etc with no magnetic interference. Obviously it goes without saying that the less filtering you have to do in MoBu the better. Let's be super clear here; they are now charging a premium for a feature that was previously included in the software. That's not cheaper nor better, it's anti-consumer behavior that no one should support. Unfortunately there is no competitor worth their salt at the level of Xsens (unless you pay for a perpetual Pro license) so they know they can get away with it. But if you have the money and the space; go optical. To my knowledge not a single company that does optical solutions does this anti-consumer nonsense of SaaS and limiting "free"/affordable versions of their software, they all do perpetual licenses. And if you pay for a perpetual Pro license with Xsens you're spending about as much as an 8-camera OptiTrack or 6-camera Vicon system for example. And they provide significantly higher quality motion capture.

Does it mean i'll need a wifi connexion to make the Mvn Link work, or only a wifi router linked to my laptop (in ethernet for exemple) ? For exemple, if i want to go recording with my laptop in a big field next to a mountain with no wifi at all, no connexion, i know it's possible with Awinda. But does is it possible with Link too if I bring some router or mut i stick to wifi places with it?

Question for you, Ron, are customers of xsens suits able to sell them on the second hand market or is it locked down to the original purchaser in some fashion? I would happily buy a suit and pay their cloud processing fees if I knew at the end of capturing what I needed I could flip the suit. I don't have an on-going need for mocap, just a one-off yet lengthy project. The software/suit competition appears to be heating up in 2021 so the last thing I would even do is pay that 24k for a lifetime license, but 1-3 months of their subscription would be plenty.
