Xiu Xiu plays the music of David Lynch's Twin Peaks
Ойын-сауық
In 2015 the Australian Cinémathèque, GOMA commissioned Xiu Xiu to reinterpret the music of TV series 'Twin Peaks'. Compositions and songs by composer Angelo Badalamenti and David Lynch were given a startling makeover and presented in two sell-out performances. The music has since been presented throughout Europe, Russia and the United States, and at Lynch's own Festival of Disruption.
Led by Jamie Stewart, Angela Seo and Shayna Dunkelman, the music of Xiu Xiu defies simple description. It's a mix of post punk and synth pop, classical and experimental styles, full of brutality and emotional depth. Xiu Xiu's performance isn't simply a recreation of the 'Twin Peaks' soundtrack, but provides an entirely new interpretation that emphasises its chaos, drama, fear, noise and sidelong leering glances.
This performance at GOMA was the last chance to see Xiu Xiu perform this special suite of music.
Performance commissioned for ‘David Lynch: Between Two Worlds’ at the Gallery of Modern Art, (GOMA) 14 March - 7 June 2015. Recorded Saturday 18 April 2015 at the Gallery's Australian Cinémathèque. This video includes performances of 'The Pink Rom/Blue Frank', 'Sycamore Trees' and 'Packard's Vibration'. All written by David Lynch (lyrics) and Angelo Badalamenti (music).
Shayna Dunkelman: vibraphone, drum set, keyboard
Angela Seo: synth, percussion, noise
Jamie Stewart: vox, guitar, synth and noise

Respect. Nothing more to say. Cooper gives a thumbs up.
Ashamed to admit I've just discovered this. I'm totally speechless as to how affective they are.
he has the black lodge style of movement down to an exact science
Please post the whole thing
his vibrato is insane
What an incredible performance. Really wish I could experience Twin Peaks for the first time again :-)
Impressive. Glad there were a lot of comments about XiuXiu on the Mitzki videos that brought me here! I'm an original Twin Peaks fan too. So surreal and haunting.
Beginning of 'Sycamore Trees' is so powerful. Chills. CHILLS

In the first song it sounds like a cranked spring reverb into some kind of fuzz.

I think I matched the tone, I ran a chorus into my overdrive then into my amp which is a Vox AC15 with the spring reverb cranked. I also use an SG. His pedal board when I did research had an ibanez chorus and pink elephant fuzz. www.effettidiclara.com/pedalboard/xiu-xiu/jamie-stewart This is what I found when looking up his pedal board. To me it seems like a chorus before distortion/fuzz/overdrive does the trick. Personally I'm using a Rainbow Machine dialed in for a chorus sound and an OCD overdrive. I have some stuff recorded with this setup on bandcamp and I'm really happy, lmk what you guys use to match it and what works for you. Edit: Went back and looked at demos of the Ibanez BC9(The chorus Jamie uses) now I'm 100 percent he's got it on during the performance, maybe not in the studio version but definitely this performance.

To harness their talent into a performance like this, they'll not be taking any drugs. Have you tried giving your all to a performance, whilst on twonk. As Keith Richards once said, "Nothing creative happens after 10pm".

I'm better
all third season of TP i was waiting for jamey stewart on scene in the roadhouse. instead of this we had bunch of un-musical american groups like jonny jewel and shit and those 3 girls
I was expecting something great from the video title..but I didn't like it
Damn this sucks
At this point of the show I barely could contain my laughter. This was to ridicules, and how serious he takes himself.. damn.
