I personally would prefer the GW2 system, same thing as WoW but just strictly better since items can have up to 4 dye channels. Only downside is you can't dye weapons. WoW IMO has the worse system as someone who has played it since TBC, not being able to dye your gear is a massive downside. They also are only now just fixing the transmog system in the next expansion allowing you to collect appearances for all armor sets on a single character.

We do need more dye colors, that's the next logical step. However, instead of the typical hexadecimal value that just changes when selecting a dye, I did hear that in FF14, putting on a dye generates an entirely separate asset just for the sake of "changing color" (irl, it'd be more like taking off your currrent t-shirt and manually grabbing a different one of a different color). They may need to dive into spaghetti code in order to reduce the storage bloat from requiring different versions of the same item.

It's very odd. We should just be able to see the palette the textures pull from and alter the color of each usage in the piece. Very bad system as-is.

That doesn't sound right. A certain plugin will allow you to set whatever colors you want, to each individual texture type on a glam. I highly doubt that this moon magic completely replaces the game's glam system, so the game's vanilla dye system must be doing something similar, just with a limited number of color presets and fixed groupings of textures (dye channels). If anything, it would be the texture (with fixed colors) getting re-generated (from a color-agnostic template) any time a color is changed, but even then the new would replace the old, so there's no storage issue.

This isn't true at all, like someone else said "a certain plugin" basically skips the dye systems limitations. It uses the already existing code to change the color of the materials. All the dye system ever was, is having an art asset be made of a 3D model. And that 3D model has parts of its model assigned to different "materials" and each of those materials either shares the same texture (and UV map file) or uses a different texture, that part doesn't matter. But each material can also be assigned a different shade. And that is how you recolor in pretty much any game outside of WoW. WoW is the only trashtier game I've seen that literally uses different texture files for recolors and why we'll never get a dye system in that game. All dying something in FF14 does is basically take the "assigned materials" and give it a hexvalue for its color. Every dye you earn in game has a different hexvalue assigned to it. And we're limited to like a paltry handful of colors because of their awful "gameplay" design. We could use any color we want if they didn't limit our dying to in-game items. All this new system did was assign a second set of materials to a different color slot that you can assign a new dye, aka hexvalue, to to change. If they really wanted to they could add as many as they wanted.

I think they're revising the gear by the expansion so we'll have to see it. I think seeing what they do with the ARR and HW gear will be very telling about it.

So, anyone seen any word on if they're also updating the methods by which you can blacklist someone? Like are we still only able to blacklist someone only if we can directly target them, select one of their previous messages, or if they're in our contacts list from a previous duty together. Have they added a text command to blacklist like for example /blacklist add (character name)@(world name), or are we still stuck with the old methods? If it's only the old methods, it's gonna suck having to un-blacklist them to then hunt them down to add them again as they said none of these new 7.0 features will apply retroactively to players on the blacklist already, (or at least that's what was implied from the live letter wording where this was announced as they said the blacklist will distinguish between characters added before and after 7.0).

@@kmeanxneth Well I have some people blacklisted that are on the same homeworld as me and chances are I'll run into them again eventually. From my understanding of these new blacklist features, the making characters invisible only will apply to characters added to the blacklist after the 7.0 update, (unless they've changed that), meaning the ones I have blacklisted now will still be visible even after the update and I'd have to remove and re-add them if I want to never see them hence why I ask if they're making adding them easier now with a text command.

Glamour is the true ultimate lol I hope they keep improving the dye system! Definitely going in the right direction.

Many of the gear looks good, even weapons getting two dyes is huge for weapon customization. But some of the gear like the drk and few others need a third dye option to really get the full use of those armors in particular

This is gonna be awesome!

I'm usually a loner, but the blacklist feature will still be super handy because repeat offenders are easy to come by when you play on the same server(s) and you can also easily clean out the annoying limsa bots: free FPS for everyone!

Nice to see this game finally catching up to systems other MMOs have had for ages now! Better late than never though, I suppose lol.

I still think they should have it set that if you blacklist someone, or if someone has you blacklisted, it pretty much prevents you from joining a roulette or a duty finder instance with them, Like just treat it as "Unable to join party, finding other players" basically. Still, this is a step in the right direction with the blacklist system.

This is mainly because the most frequent times I find myself using the blacklist system is when I get a tank that likes to PK other players with tankbusters and just make the next 40 minutes just miserable for everyone else, which sucks because I know that outside the very slim to nonexistant chance of them being sent to GM jail for being reported for it, the blacklist system will absolutely not prevent someone from potentially running into them again. Like the only effective solution that I've managed to avoid that has just been by doing Savage Raids so I don't need the coins for augmenting gear, and just queuing as the tank itself.

@@Ovadia381 I get what you're saying but the odds of finding the same person you're trying to avoid is already so incredibly low that the resources spent on making this work properly are just not worth the investment for them. I can for sure see there being several different type of issues pop up from doing something like this.

LIke it's also such a specific scenario to blacklist someone for it, that whenever I run into the issue where a tank's griefing, I just let myself get killed, spawn out of the fight, leave the instance, and go do something else for 30 minutes cuz I just know it's gonna be like 40 minutes of unhappiness sticking around with one sour apple.

We do need more... and with the mod "glamourer +" you can dye every single part individually. So the engine can handle it, they're just holding us back... on purpose. It's mostly a UI issue. Like there's no way they can come up with a good UI that lets you dye all the materials and then have a way to spend the dye on each part. It would just be super clunky. Even with just two dye slots it already looks confusing and miserable. But if they just sucked it up, and stopped making us buy dyes and do a proper modern UI menu like the modders came up with we could just pick whatever hue and color we desired. Not limited by dyes, not limited by the parts of the armor, all in engine just waiting to be used.

WoW has a lot of convenience to its tmog system, but there's no dying, and some in between pieces you can just never get to match an entire custom set like belts n shit and it is aggravating. XIV's i feel like has little convenience in terms of needing to keep the item, only storing so many items, etc, but the dye option makes it so much more malleable and flexible. Double dye might just add another layer to that i can't wait to work with

@ghostdoggx Stuff like that is in most MMOs with cosmetics dating back nearly 15-20 years ago, if not more. Big buff guys in speedos/skimpy outfits. You're fighting a losing battle by trying to get rid of it. Either accept it's a thing that happens and stop being bigoted, or just leave. Both men and women play characters that look like that. It's the 'RP' portion of the genre. You want control neither the GMs, nor Developers can or want to do. I play a Hyur Highlander with white hair and beard. I personally don't like any lower outfits that give him speedo style underpants under a skirt/robe and change them to pants of some kind. But that is my character and can change it. As for others, I don't care what they do with their characters. It's their choice. I've seen male Roe and Hrothgar in the 2B leggings hundreds of times. No one is being hurt, but you're distain for looking at it.

By not telling them when or if someone has them blocked, they’ll never know whether they’re just wasting their time or not, which gives them less incentive to do it in the first place.
