Yeah there aren't a lot of content creators for FF like him. Actually makes content around playing the game instead of pumping out redundant guides that 20 other people had already made.

Your DRK guide really helped me. I was someone who thought you plunge into battle to quickly close the gap. I have since stopped that and practiced this rotation which has helped my drk dps ALOT.

This discussion about of half/quarter GCD and consistency just reminds me of me doing e8s. Ya can feel when will get destroyed by the boss and you will lose a lot of dps just by the fraction of the second you hit the boss after the countdown is over. Couple first dozen tries on the boss and my Yaten would snapshot inside of the boss hitbox. Took a while to adjust the skills rotating after the opener and get it so I could Yaten some of the bosses spells at the right time. Consistency is a given in this game for a savage player.

You know, the gap closer pull is a good point, as a PLD I normally prepull cast and gap closer at about the point the boos reaches the centre but I think I'll go back to the good old sprint so it's more consistent across tanks plus that should prevent ticks altering when it registers me getting to the boss and it over or under shooting the centre, plus I get one more gap closer in FoF I guess

i dont think that was toxic, it was funny to me. U also illustrated why its wrong so its not just an empty criticism. By making fun of mistakes it makes it easier to remember.

Thank you so much Xeno, for saying outloud about Onslaught being the best gap closer and why. I have over the years said word by word but people always say it's worse because it's a DPS loss and I am talking about people who actively farm Ultimates. I nearly got kicked from a group for saying this (not exaggerating) and for the rest of the tier I had my co-tank hate me for it, telling me Warrior is the worst tank.

Yeah as a new FF player I also agree that gap closers should not do damage. One of the biggest things I had to do to adjust to in FF.

It's so funny watching them struggle on Titania EX and E2S and finally have the realization that this isn't easy xD

Yeah the ocd and gcd took a little time for me to get used to and do feel its a bit weird gap closers are in a rotation and try to keep at least one charge.Ill admit in dungeons Ill just gap close the boss but were normally speed running it anyways but should break that habit

i'm new to the game and the main thing i am looking for in an ability as a dps, is the potency, the combo potency effect and the occasional buff or other requirements to buff it or another ability. And then i just sort my priority by that logic, any ability that does not have potency value or combo/buff value, i wont even touch if it will screw any ability in the priority hierarchy.

On pally I try to keep 1 charge up in case I need it and use the other as a filler weave as soon as it's ready. But I'm definitely not at the stage of mapping fights out so specifically. For me, I'm doing good if I don't tunnel vision my melee combo one too many times and leave requi sitting there ready to use.

Dark Knights all getting weird about TBN while us Gunbreakers are all high-fiving over not having to think about when to use rip and tear, happy with our regen a couple of steps later.

I always thought using a gapcloser at the start was dumb because it always threw off my GCD....now I know it does a lot worse then that LOL

I'm not a big raider, so I feel like the tbn rant might be going over my head, but I pretty much use it like I would the other short tank CDs. Use it on me when I have big slap incoming, on other tank when they have big slap incoming, and other party member if I think it will save them from a death.

I knew that plunge did damage, never thought about weaving it to parse cuz I wanted to save it for utility but I found out that people spam it for combo, never knew lol. also him going "oh.. okay" after the plunge was hilarious LMAO, I dont see it as toxic.

Has Xeno ever given his opinion on tanks opening with provoke? I see that shit and it drives me crazy but maybe there is something i've missed cuz I came back in 5.2ish after a year long hiatus.

I love TBN. I will always use it when I know it'll pop. I'll even tell my healers not to heal me so my TBN will pop. But when it doesn't pop I see red

TBN is a shield so it doesn't matter if you're being healed or not for it to pop, only if an AST or SCH shields you which should be before a tankbuster or hard hitting raidwide where it'll definitely pop

What Xeno means is melee dps are out of melee range if the tank decides to gap close as their first attack instead of using their ranged aggro gcd.

I'm mainly referring to melee jobs, as it's quite important for them to maintain melee range as much as possible and all melee jobs has a gc(including nin if you macro) Ranged... doesn't really matter in this regard. It's not that the gc needs to not do damage. Just reduce it enough to get the point across that it's not intended for damage They actually tried it once by reducing the potency before but i guess not enough lol

Well, except that DRG is not really a gap closer because you come back to where you come. I hope btw that DRG will have some real gap closer for Endwalker cause 60 sec on gap closer is really huge and you kinda have to use it for the potency anyway so most of the time you don't even have it for the mechanics... >.>

@@zaknar1978 Elusive Jump is 100% a gap closer, and you have three dives, some of which even come up at convenient times to use them as a gap closer (Stardiver can have some flexibility while remaining in buff windows). Of all your jumps/dives, only (High) Jump returns you to where you start. Seriously though, Elusive Jump best gap closer. Up every 30s and don't have to use it for damage :D

@@HayLinLa Hmm guess we should agree to disagree then. Cause Elusive jump initial purpose is to evade attack, not be a gap closer (even though we agree it is actually used as it). But honestly I don't find elusive pleasant to use as a gap closer cause you have to turn back and align with your target so it's clunky (and it's 15y instead of 20y of other gap closer).

But does it REALLY even matter THAT much? I don't tank much, but it doesn't seem to me like this is all that important until you're doing the very high end raids, and you're looking to be the fastest clear/top damage in class. Basically, if you don't care about leaderboards, you can just play normally, respecting the mechanics as normal so that you don't wipe, and the overwhelming majority of people will be ok with it. This isn't even a guide on how not to suck, it's a general guide on things you need to be a top raider. That's not to discredit the video, I love this man, it's just he has the elitist mentality, so of course his guides will be made more towards elite players/enthusiasts.

Even if the information won't be used by most, having it gives them the opportunity to look into the things that would be required of them to do that sort of thing.

Server tick is because everything in game runs server side and the server updates the client in a fixed rhythm It's easiest to see in practice by using multiple Dots on a dummy. Dot 1 lands and starts ticking every 3 seconds (all regen and dots tick every 3 seconds) If you then apply another dot 1.5 seconds later. The dot will not tic 1.5 sec after your first dot. Both Dots will tick at the same time, on the same server tic cycle. So you get 1 displayed damage number every time it ticks, and they are all lined up to the same rhythm. Same with regens from healers and ground dots. (ground dots don't add the number to the other dot number they display separately in red, but they do tick for their own listed value at the exact same time as other dots do) Everyone's dots etc all tick on the same server tick, regardless of who cast them or when. The tick happens at the same time for everyone It basically means how often the server updates the client. So if everyone hits the boss at the exact same time, they are lined up with the server tick. If not, one or more people may be on the tic and others may be off, so are behind by 1 client to server to client update cycle. If you have gun breaker it's easier to see because you have a dot and a regen. Put up your dot and watch it tick. Then put up your regen in between ticks and you will see they both tick at the same interval. Damage from AoEs and the time they calculate if you are in or out of it also happens on the tick.

Omg preach. Any skill that moves your character and does dmg is stupid. I can still remember the days playing brd and repelling shot had potency. That shit kills players more then it helps. What really help players not dying was removing potency from that ability.

When I'm healing DRK's I get so bummed out when they keep spamming TBN outside of tank-busting windows. I heal all other tanks just fine so It feels like TBN spamming DRK's don't do me or himself any favors, nothing will really change... I'd still have to heal at the same points in the fights and I'll still do about the same amount of green damage.

Love how in his rotation video Xenos makes an example of pummeling away at his dummy while talking to chat, and then to disenagge from the fight he runs away from it, like a pussy, rather than standing his ground, rightclicking the target and "reset enmity", like a CHAD. Smfh xD

Let the Healer do their job if someone is about to get waffle stomped for being dumb, they have tools to mitigate that, either shields or rescue, or if all else fails let them die and they can raise them.

The argument "I will focus on getting the damage out and do a proper rotation when we've seen enrage if damage is lacking" is such a bullshit argument though. By that time you've essentially learned the entire fight, just extremely annoying to start changing things because you realize in hindsight that you didn't opt for a good way of dealing with mechanics from the start... from a damage POV. Every single time I hear that argument, and when the scenario comes.. they never bother fixing their gray parses. If you're learning a fight, learn the mechanics whilst keeping the up times and cooldowns in mind.

Honestly this argument just fails in the sense that if you aren't practiced on doing a proper rotation, then you're learning the fight wrong in my opinion. There's so many points in fights where knowing where you are in your rotation can help so much in terms of just contextualizing what to do and where go to. For example I can tell you the exact thing the boss is doing on every single Battle Voice I cast in it. I can tell you what song I should be going into for specific mechanics in e11s and e12s. And these aren't just unique to me, but every class has stuff like this. Having your rotation down to a science lets you start contextualizing these things better because you'll be able to link that "Oh Battle Litany is up, that means Shadowkeeper is about to use a knockback" without having to wait for the callout or see the animation. Xeno said it best in terms of focusing on consistency. That helps so much with these fights it's not even funny.

TBN is only useful against raid bosses. And only some of the times. Its design is bad.
