X-Plane 11 - Tutorial: Making WT3 Airport Operations Files

Ойындар

So you made ground routes for World Traffic 3! Great! But your airport is now a mess of planes coming and going with no order to the chaos in sight! Behold, the WT3 Airport Operations file! The savior of all WT3 ground route packages.
In this tutorial I'll run through what an Ops file is, looks like and how to build one. Every airport, even simple single strip airports really need one of these files. Ops files create order from chaos and can eliminate bad AI behavior such as landing outside the airport, failure to takeoff and they help a little with aircraft separation in the air. I hope you find this useful!
EDIT: I have learned since this video was done that all your headings and speeds you setup should in fact overlap each other. So if you have a wind rule that says 090 to 270 is the wind speed and then your next wind rule is for the opposite direction then you need to make the wind speed 270 to 090. Same thing for wind speeds. They should overlap. So if your wind rule is 0 to 9 knots is calm then your next rule should start with 9 and go to whatever speed you want.

    Captain K_Man Excellent video and choice for the tutorial on the airport operations. I found midway to be a tricky airport to setup ground routes and really have to pay attention to everything. But its a good one to learn on when building ground routes and airport operations. I remember reading in the org on what you found when it came to the SID departure at Midway. When I finally finish my ground routes I witness an aircraft taking off on 13C and kept going right for house and beyond. I had to stop myself from laughing to keep for getting a heart attack. Now that you have given that information and demo in the tutorial makes it a little easier to correct what is going with that issue. Also thanks for pointing out the cross winds depart and approach at Anchorage and issue surrounding KLGA. Bob

    Captain K-Man - do you know the best method for disabling a runway so that ‘you’ are the only one who can land on it in WT3 while manipulating the Airport Operations txt file? The method I thought would work (placing all 0’s to the right of the Aircraft Types for that runway) apparently doesn’t work. I want to completely disable runway 10/28 at KATL so that I can land on it and not have to worry about someone pulling out in front of me on short final or formation flying with me. It’s “garbage” as you put it!

    CICER9 not cicerO. Great vid. Now I see what to do to get small planes to land at TFFJ. I guess because of the mountain right at the runway, I need to increase angle and shorten final approach, so they aren't so high on final and get missed approach status. Cheers!

    Can someone help me here.....i have arrival traffic but no departing traffic. The plane's just remain parked at the gate or some aircraft's just spawn on the runway and takeoff

    Hi and thanks so much for this great tutorial! Question: 1) Last night I was looking at WT3 3.1.7 traffic operations at CYUL and the aircraft were doing cross runway operations. I did not see a crash, but there were some close calls. So I figured I'd use an operation file to turn OFF cross runway operations, yet you enable them. Secondly, you mention go-arounds. At CYUL I also saw many aircraft land 10 seconds apart. The first aircraft was still on the runway when the second landed, of course. So I thought WT3 is not actually smart enough to time sequencing properly or call for a go-around. Is it a config issue on my WT3 that I saw these two problems, or is it the way the program behaves? Thanks!

    Chris, the developer of World Traffic 3, is at this very moment working on the next big version that is going to finally address AI not separating properly or waiting the appropriate amount of time before taxing across or onto an active runway. To turn off a runway you don't want you still need to add it to the runway list in the operations file but set the landing type for aircraft all to 0's for every size category of plane. This should stop any plane from using that runway.

    In the video you said you can assign the runway for Pilot2ATC to choose as well when wind is calm. May I ask how do you set that up in Pilot2ATC?

    In the Taxi Maintenance module. There is a tab to setup the runways.

    Dude, you are blowing my mind with all of these videos! Would you mind going over how to convert objects and object sceneries from fs9 and fsx to xplane11 PLEASE lol.. i created the tall towers for KSTL's 30R appr lights for fs9(i STILL LOVE that sim!), but i cannot get them to work in xplane. It was very tedious and i really dont want to build them again lmao.. take care man!

    Object conversion is something I am still working on. I convert FSX/P3D scenery all the time and I know this, LIGHTING type objects NEVER work right after transfer. The lights get killed off. I'm hoping I learn how to restore lights broken in the transfer. I am almost done converting Taxi2Gate's Seattle. The last thing to fix is all the lighting.

    Thanks for a great video, going to try one for Manchester, EGCC... Do you know at which point the Operations file as actually loaded into WT3? At resync, or another time? Thanks again!

    You know I am not exactly sure. I think it is instantaneously but the way traffic has been behaving lately I am not so sure now. I keep getting traffic landing on both ends of the runways despite having an Airport Operations file. That means the aircraft that first spawned in got one set of instructions, then the weather changed and the next batch of planes were told to land on the opposite runway.

    Hi K-MAN if e new Navigraph file is provided by the update, do one also need to rewrite (correct) the airport file you described above?

  • @CaptainKMan

    @CaptainKMan

    5 жыл бұрын

    Nope. Navigraph updating WT3 doesn't effect the airport operations itself, only how the airplanes get into the area.

    So for the wind direction should I enter value of only 90/180/270/360 degrees like you do? Could I put in a value of where the runway is right in the center of wind blow from both direction?

  • @CaptainKMan

    @CaptainKMan

    6 жыл бұрын

    You can use any directions you want. When in doubt, make a 90 degree arc and put the runway in the center of the arc. So if you have an airport with Runway 04 with a True heading of 045, I would use 0 to 90. It all depends on the airport, the number of runways and how they are all facing. And airport like Atlanta where all the runways run east/west I would use a 180 degree arc and put the runway in the center of the arc.

    I'm just making a copy of an already existing Airport Operations file in the Airport Ops folder and renaming the file to whatever airport I am working on. Then I go in and wipe out all the data for the airport, leaving the headers in place and then I fill in all the data with the airport I am working on.

    This is funny, you talk about overlapping wind direction and why you should not do it but if you look at the WT3 AUTHORS example of what a Operations File should look like and examples his wind directions are also OVERLAPPING! So which is it? Surely he should know that!!!!

    Great stuff Captain! So good that I wrote a utility program that creates these files from reading the airport flow from an apt.dat file. Many thanks to you for showing me how it's done. You can download my program (requires Python 3.7) here: snomhf.exofire.net/data/aoi_v1.0.zip
