Because as Scully has said before to her therapist, she doesn't want Mulder to think that he has to protect her. It's both about Scully's pride and about being a women in world full of men with her profession. What Scully doesn't understand is that it is a natural instinct for Mulder to want to protect her. That's just Mulder.
Such a painfully honest scene between these two amazing actors
Surely this scene plus some others is the reason why Gillian Anderson won the Best Actress Emmy award during Season 4. She always was sublime in her emotional scenes, not over doing it.
I disagree with some saying Mulder was too hard on her in this scene... Mulder knows, and understands, that Scully needs someone to be hard on her every once in a while. Scully would rather want someone to tell the honest truth, then to have someone walk on eggshells and pretend everything is ok, when she knows it's not. Mulder knows that she respects, and wants, the brutal truth- as does he.. They would both rather have someone say something that makes them scream and cry, then to have someone tell a lie to their face.
One of the best acted scenes during the whole show - very close to the performance of them in the final scene of "Never Again". Love season 4 so much!
This conversation between Mulder and Scully had a double meaning. By calling her out on her lying to him, he's telling her not to deny what's really going on between them. She's realizing that her fear of dying is linked to her attachment to Mulder. That's why she's unable to face the fact she might die from this. Because it would mean she would have to admit how she really feels about Mulder. She's been denying her feelings for him as a defense/coping mechanism for what happened to her and self-preservation. He decides to confront her about this because he is now aware that she desires him sexually after what happened with Eddie Van Blundht. He knows that things are changing between them.
"I'm going home." Beautifully executed line.
Great scene! Just watched the episode :D
This scene doesn't tell anything besides Mulder's care and concern for Scully
Such a strong scene. You can see Scully’s struggle with her beliefs, her relationship and her fears. Love season 4 of the X files.
I love how Mulder knows Scully so well, and even when she hides things from him because of his 'secret' connection to her he always knows something is wrong :') Moving scene 3
when i watch these season 3 and 4,5,6 episodes i feel even more passionately that Chris Carter needs to end this show somewhere and give proper closure to these 2 characters, by proper I mean a beautiful, happy ending TOGETHER. I don't care what the 2020 wokes say or think about this relationship. I grew up with this show and they taught me what love is...I never saw 2 people love, protect, value, and respect one another than Mulder and Scully did...and they deserved a happily ever after. Breaking them up over and over, separating them, it's in the writer's hands and it is cruel for them to keep repeating it. I hope Gillian does agree to come back eventually and they beautifully conclude MS in 3-4 memorable episodes or 1 beautiful movie...we fans deserve it. Mulder and Scully do too.
As always so well acted between these two. So many scenes and one line conversations were more about their relationship than what the actual topic was.
Someone in 2020 ?? That was very painful , but true 😪
I Love this scence so much. Thanks for posting.
Love scene,Gillian! Beautifully acted
one of my favourite scenes of the show
I remember this scene, I love it.
This is during Scully's struggle with cancer. The guy saw visions of the murder victims because he was dying. Scully saw one of those visions of the latest victim. It scared her and she didn't want to believe seeing the victim meant she was certainly going to die of her cancer. So she didn't want to tell Mulder
This exchange hits hard.
