Having been married for 30 years, my observation is that it is more like they have been married 2 or 3 years when it’s fun and you are in love. Having done both of the following, my advice to men and women both is to not get married and don’t have kids. Our youngest is finally going off to college. Maybe my husband and I will now reconnect. For most of the time so far we have just been friendly roommates. My husband worked 75 hours a week as a lawyer to save up money to send our kids to good colleges and I worked 35 hours a week at a job and then to kids to every activity they wanted to do and did household chores. We didn’t even have time to talk or even argue. I would be asleep by the time he got home and he would still be asleep when I left to take kids to school in the morning.

Agreed.. Here is my take on the "tension" from the 90's. We all know that DD is a "former" sex addict, right? So when the show first aired, I think those two had a little fling of sorts. And I think Gillian got pissed when DD, went and married Tea' Leoni. I think that's when the tension and hate stemmed from. Years later, she's single & he's no longer married. So why not enjoy that animal attraction they had from the start. Look at this interview, they are definitely screwing... Just my opinion..

She was a leather jacket, dyed punk haircut wearing teenager that got arrested a few times too. There's a rumor that she briefly and secretly dated David Letterman, who she made out twice on television with. She has always been very flirty. It's her nature. Incredibly sexy and talented. How can Duchovny resist that. I'm sure its happened, even recently.

Gillian picking lint off David's jacket reminds me of Scully fixing Mulder's tie. There aren't many more actions that say we love each other than that.

I've missed the two together so much.

Even though this interview was 5 years ago, it is still one of the best that I have ever seen of them and I have been a fan of them both since the 90s. The positive and beautiful space that they were in when they filmed the reboot just shows through this interview. And they will never be honest about the real reason. I honestly think that they had a casual sexual relationship that started after they filmed the pilot. David wanted to keep it going but somebody told Gillian that this would be bad for her career so she went and married her 1st husband to end things and it caused a lot of the tension at first. Then when they were both single (when they did the Rolling Stones cover) they got sexual again but David was with Tea' and didn't tell Gillian and that caused further tension and drama. They are getting older and maybe one day they will go ahead and be together openly but who they were in this interview with Jimmy feels like the most genuine and authentic throughout their 20+ years together. I re-watch this interview often. And I miss their social media back and forth. I want to say around 2013 through all the press and everything for Season 10, they were just so cute and adorable online and then Season 11 came and went and we didn't get much of that. It was hard to see watch the shift between them.

@@anda6963 They come back often, as if there was such a good energy sooner or later you miss them. This is your subconscious mind. I still miss my ex on a regular basis when I think of her. Unfortunately she will not be my 'bumerang'. And she would not talk to me not because she doesn't like me any more, but because she is a wise woman. She knows that if we met up, the past wibe that we had would come back in seconds, which could have a destructive effect on our lives. Deeo in my heart I love her but I know the past is gone and you need to move on. Luckily memories never die. I remember when we were at the university together, there was a big poster hanging on the wall where students could write whatever they 'kind of' wanted. One day I was looking through it and I saw two words, written in a really small writing, The words said: FIND ME. I knew it was a message from her but she never told me she had written it on the poster, It was a message to be found or not. I cut it out and showed it to her. She couldn't stop laughing. I have that piece of poster till today. And that was nearly 30 years ago. It still says: FIND ME. So I might find her again in my next life. And I am not gonna let her go this time lol,

actually she was hot back then, but they had her all prim and proper for the show. She was really still a bad girl back then, there is plenty of old photos and such. Plus there were a few episodes where she let her hair down and you saw the hot Gillian. I would say she is STILL has hot as 20 years ago, just she was a hot girl back then, and a hot woman now. They stuffed her into a business suit and shoes on the show and didn't focus on showing off her assets. She's flaunting them now more, but she still had them 20 years ago.

Love them since 1993 . Favorite show of all time , favorite actors of all time.

Gillian Anderson is undoubtedly a national treasure, though I'm never quite sure for which nation. ;)

Absolutely. With regards to TV in the 90's; "Seinfeld" redefined comedy, "90210" was the hottest ZIP code on TV, "Twin Peaks" blazed an offbeat trail, "The X Files" sent chills down the spines of TV viewers and "Friends" befriended a whole generation.

They're not married, that explains why the get along well with each other.

One of the best duos in entertainment history, right there with Benson & Stabler. And 2 of the best theme songs? You got the "dun dun" & then the "da nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh, da nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh"

I love those two so much.

The chemistry between David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson is just perfect!

I can not decide if they're playing fans or what..... Gillian is a good actress, but her giggles are her tell. And David has flat out denied anything, but he is more touchy feely than I recall. Then again we never got to see them in joint interviews much "back in the day".

From 2:05 - 2:23 when Jimmy says, "What is going on between you two", which by the way is the question in everyone's mind, is the most sexual tension I've ever seen in a late night interview.

And now they want to replace this Two Amazing People with a new diverse cast for a X-Files reboot... How is this possible??? This Two are just Perfect and the biggest reason why The X-Files was so great!

i'm glad to see how well they seem to get along now, they seem close. i only learned about their off-screen tension a couple years ago but it sounded like they really didn't get along back then, so its good they hashed things out and are friendly now

There were times that they didn't get along, but it doesn't seem like it was constant. They just had to spent too many long days for too many years on set. It's normal for there to be negative tension at times.

...ignoring the x-files, this literally seemed like a scene from Californication. Thick sexual tension, kinda funny and ridiculous, and "I sound like an A-hole", three things that basically made his character.

I think the tension between them was a natural result of the demands of that job. But, I think they genuinely like each other. There had to be some attraction between them or the show would not have worked as well as it did. There were rumors flying around awhile back that they had been involved recently. But who knows. Either way, they are one of the legendary partner/couples that were ever put on film. I miss those days. Gillian Anderson is still a babe.

They are magical together, one can dream.

I just went through the same thing. Few episodes back in the day, and I just finished the whole 11 seasons and two movies three nights ago. If anything I'm a little sad I don't have any more to watch, until I released I missed Arcadia from season 6.

Amazing natural chemistry. I like the way she casually picked her hairs off the shoulder of his suit.

David Duchovny's humour and Gillian Anderson's laughter : the best duo !!!
