Wyzecam Focus Ring

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A neat little modification to the Wyzecam V1 or V2 camera (not for Wyzecam Pan) to enable close up focusing. 3D printed focus ring fits on over the lens to help grip the ring while focusing. **WARNING** Doing this modification will void your warrantee, so proceed at your own risk. Doing this modification could damage your camera and make it unusable, so again, proceed with extreme caution. The focus ring 3D printed file can be found here. www.thingiverse.com/thing:432...

For anyone having issues getting the lens to turn and break the glue free, take off the front cover and then run a blow dryer across the front of the camera in a circle motion. Then try to turn the camera with some pliers. This worked for me since I had a stubborn lens.

Thank you for these excellent instructions! I got a refurbished camera from Wyze which was actually set the way you wanted it but distant objects were out of focus. Rather than go through the hassle and delay of sending the camera back, I followed your instructions and adjusted the focus myself. Plastic jawed pliers slipped on the lens mount so I used a hair dryer and a pair of lineman's pliers to gently unscrew the lens mount. When putting things back to together, just remember to mount the rubber gasket on the front cover first before snapping it back in place.

This is such a brilliant solution to my exact issue using a WyzeCam V2 in my enclosure- thank you so much for this!

The internal design of the latest Wyze cam has changed a bit with a larger rubber grommet. Also, there is a cap that screws onto the lens that comes off (was glued) and the lens is also glued into the unit. Used a small metal pick to remove the glue around the base of the lens and then it screwed out by hand.

Thanks for the presentation and the file! Printed mine out, but I think I heated it a little too much because it wouldn't grab the ring. All good, though! Once I got it to grab a little bit, I set my focus, pulled the focus ring part off, put the rubber seal and cover back in place, and now it just looks like a Wyze Cam again :) Bonus, there's a little notch in the original ring, so if I ever need to make a quick adjustment, tiny flat head screwdriver for the win :D

2:45 just my input here but it is not a direct access to the sensor when you remove the lens assembly. there is a wafer thin piece of glass covering the sensor at that point. i know because that piece tends to fog over time with oils (long story, known issue, see forums) and i have had to remove it for cleaning on all my Wyze cams..

Great idea! Went ahead and printed up the ring. I found that the lens had virtually no glue holding it. After going through the process I didn't like the vignetting created by the ring around the lens. I ended up pulling the ring off and with the face plate off, mounted the camera and turned the lens barrel to obtain focus. Afterward I replaced both the rubber gasket and the face plate allowing the camera its full field of view with perfect focus to boot.

So just out of curiosity, with the lens screwed all the way in would you say it's focused on the foreground or the background? And about how far down is it screwed in from the factory?

Anyone ever have an issue with the camera reading a qr code after? I couldn't get my camera to reconnect so I hard rebooted it. Going through setup now it won't read the qr code to set it up. Any advice out there?

Where can I buy one of the focus ring? What is the min focus distance without doing anything without being blurry 2ft maybe?

  • 3 жыл бұрын

Cool! What is the shortest distance you can focus on with this method?

When I was adjusting mine, it only took a very small turn (less than 1/8) to bring objects a few inches away into sharp focus, so I would guess it could focus very close with the lens screwed all the way out.

Just wanted to comment and say that you can do this with the Wyze Cam v3. I picked a couple up over the weekend. The procedure is a bit more invasive on the newer model, but it’s not too bad. I will say that there was quite a bit of glue, but I was able to pick it away and it will twist freely now.

@@kyleeaton1709 I didn’t. Unless you need to constantly adjust it once modified and put back together, you can simply twist it with your fingers and then reassemble.

@@mattneidert Can you elaborate a little with the V3? Did you just pop out the front, twist the lens and remove glue, then replace the lens and front? Or do you have to remove screws and take apart like other videos show?

The cap came off the lens on me, and I tried to put it back together. Now it's stuck with a focus range of 4 in and less. Actually focused on since writing with the text basically touching the screen. Anyone know how to fix this?

Hey Don, Great job. Have you thought about selling these on Etsy or something. I have had a few people reach out to me to print them. I have done it a couple times but in general I don't like selling other peoples designs. Also my own designs keep me busy enough.
